ITINERARY
Explore Antarctica on this 10-day voyage aboard the MV Ushuaia
DAY 1: Embarkation
Embark the M/V Ushuaia in the afternoon and meet your expedition and lecture staff. After you have settled
into your cabins, enjoy the sail along the famous Beagle Channel and the scenic Mackinlay Pass.
DAYS 2 to 3: Crossing the Drake Passage
Named after the renowned explorer, Sir Francis Drake, who sailed these waters in 1578, the Drake Passage also
marks the Antarctic Convergence, a biological barrier where cold polar water sinks beneath the warmer
northern waters. As you sail across the passage, lecturers will be out with you on deck to help in the
identification of an amazing variety of seabirds, including many albatrosses. The Ushuaia’s open bridge policy
allows you to join the officers on the bridge and learn about navigation, watch for whales, and enjoy the view. A
full program of lectures will be offered as well. The first sightings of icebergs and snow-capped mountains
indicate that the South Shetland Islands have been reached. With favourable conditions in the Drake Passage
the lecturers and naturalists will accompany you ashore as you experience your first encounter with the
penguins and seals on Day 3.
DAYS 4 to 7: South Shetland & Antarctic Peninsula
The South Shetland Islands are a haven for wildlife. Vast penguin rookeries, beaches ruled by Antarctic fur seals
and southern elephant seals make every day spent in this amazing island group unforgettable. You will have
plenty of time to explore its amazing scenery, a pristine wilderness of snow, ice, mountains and waterways,
and an incredibly wide variety of wildlife. Apart from penguins and seabirds you are very likely to see weddell,
crabeater and leopard seals as well as minke, killer (orca) and humpback whales at close proximity. Navigate
beautiful waterways, between towering rock faces and spectacular glaciers. There will be at least two landings
per day, dependent on conditions, visiting the aptly named Paradise Bay, the 200,000 strong colony of adélie
penguins and blue-eyed cormorants on Paulet Island and Petermann Island for the southernmost colony of
gentoo penguins.
DAYS 8 to 9: Crossing the Drake Passage
Leave Antarctica and head north across the Drake Passage. Join the lecturers and naturalists on deck on the
search for seabirds and whales and enjoy some final lectures. Take the chance to relax and reflect on the
fascinating adventures of the past days on the way back to Ushuaia.

LOVE YOUR SISTER
Australian actor Samuel Johnson has traditionally been best known for his work on The Secret Life of Us, Underbelly,
Rush, Crackerjack and Molly. Perhaps now though he is better known for being an absurdly loyal brother. Through all four
seasons, deserts, snow, the tropics and everything between, Samuel pedalled his heart out and screamed his sister’s
message from the rafters to anyone who would listen…
“Don’t fall into the booby trap, be breast aware!”.
Now it’s time for Antarctica! As the first ‘Bucaneer’ off the rank in Love Your Sister’s new Bucket List Initiative, Samuel will
take a polar plunge into the freezing Antarctic waters. On, what is set to be a once-in-a-lifetime journey to the Antarctic
Peninsula, reserved for Samuel and fellow travellers, whether taking the plunge or simply enjoying the vistas, get your
good mood ready, there’ll be games aplenty onboard, from coits to chess. Samuel is super competitive and ready
for any challenge. He can’t wait to host the trivia night too. Every berth sold on this adventure will directly benefit the
scientists at The Garvan Institute of Medical Research.
