Dease Lake School
Principal’s Message
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Welcome back to Dease Lake School. We hope that you were
able to do some of the things you hoped for during the summer
break, and that your summer was refreshing. We are committed to
listening deeply and working with students, parents, and community
members to build a welcoming and positive learning community
where each student belongs and is a successful learner. We have
an exciting year of learning planned for our students and invite you
to join us in your child (ren)s learning journey.
Sadly, we lost a member of our school community in a tragic accident this summer. Eddie Davidson was a bright spirit whose smile
and energy will be missed. We offer our condolences to his parents,

would like to take this opportunity to welcome them to Dease Lake
School: Mrs. Pamela Morrison is teaching the grade 3/4 class, Mr.
Brad Paul is teaching grade 5/6 , Mr. Rainer Wuthrup is teaching in
the secondary wing and Ms. Kerry McGrath is supporting students
at our Learning Center.

Some of the things we are excited about this year are:
Next week most of our grade 9-12 students, along with their teachers and parent helpers will be taking part in a four day on the land
cultural camp at the Kawdy Cho camp on the Klappan road . Our
elementary students will be participating in shorter cultural activities
that will prepare them for the camp when they are older.
Elementary students are also looking forward to an interactive
Dance workshop in early October.
Meduh,
Leah Robinson
Please Note:
Dease Lake School PAC will be
starting their hot lunch program on
September 24th. Every Thursday the
PAC will be selling a variety of food
for the school population.
If you would like to help out please come to the school or contact
Teneal Nole for more information.
If your child has plans after
school and is NOT going
home please send a note to
the school to inform us of the
change. Your child will not be
dropped off without a note!

Hi! My name is Mrs. Morrison and I am very excited to be your grade
3/4 teacher! This year is going to be full of fun and lots of learning! I
cannot wait to see what this year will have in store for us! I want to
get to know all about you, but first I would like to tell you a few things
about myself.
I was born in Vancouver but I have spent most of my life in
Hazelton. I have three brothers, Alonzo, Garnet, and Billy. I have a
dog, a cat, two gerbils, and four goldfish. I LOVE animals!
I completed most of my elementary and secondary schooling
in Hazelton but was fortunate to spend the last 6 months of my grade
12 year here at the Dease Lake School! I lived in Iskut with my mother while going to school here and am very excited to be back!
I am so happy to become a part of this wonderful community
and look forward to meeting everyone!

largest Maliseet First Nation in New Brunswick. I drove 6507 kms to
be part of your community. I look forward to having a fun and rewarding year working with your children. I have taught in Northern Labrador and New Brunswick in a number of public and First Nations
Schools. I want to acknowledge that I am honored to be here working
with the students of District 87(Stikine) and with the Dease Lake

Hi, I am Rainer Wuthrich and I am one of the new High school
teachers at Dease Lake Public School. I grew up in Southern Ontario and arrived from Toronto, Ontario at the start of September
and I am looking forward to a great year here in Dease Lake. I
have completed two degrees in Psychology/Sociology and Criminology/Geography, as well as earning a B.Ed. I have taught for five
years in Manitoba as a school counsellor and Psychology teacher
before travelling and teaching in England in a little town about 45
minutes outside of London. I enjoy travelling, scuba diving, snowmobiling and all kinds of sports and out-door activities. I teach a
fantastic group of students and I am looking forward to getting to
know everyone much better as we explore new topics, ideas and
the outdoors together. A big thank you for the warm welcome I
have received from everybody.

In Memory of Eddie Davidson
On August 30, 2015 we lost a student from our school in a
vehicle accident. Eddie came to us in March 2014 from Houston, BC. Right away Eddie showed us his quirky side with
his fast little wave and big smile. He befriended many people
in the school and was always there to give a helping hand to
anyone who needed it. Mary could always rely on Eddie to
help with getting the supplies from the back room.
Last Spring Mr. Michelin set up the drums in the entrance to
the school and Eddie showed us what a talent he had playing
them. Eddie then took a couple younger students from Ms.
Fowkes class ‘under his wing’ to teach them how to play the
drums. He then surprised us all when he got up on stage and
performed an impromptu rap song in front of everyone.
Eddie will be greatly missed and we all feel a void in the
school with him gone. Thank you Eddie for letting us know
you and treasure you.
Hi Folks,
My name is Kerry McGrath. I am pleased to be teaching at The Learning Centre for the 2015-16 school year. My hope is to collaborate with
students, teachers, families and the wider community to provide creative and personalized programming for District 87 (Stikine) students. I
believe in focusing on the inherent strengths and passions of each individual.
A little bit about me....
Brad (Grade 5/6 teacher), Colter (Grade 1), Ruger (Fur Baby), and I,
travelled across this great and vast country of ours to join the extraordinary community of Dease Lake. I was born and raised in Fredericton,
New Brunswick and have lived/worked in many interesting places including: Germany, Calgary, Cape Cod, New Hampshire, and Vermont.
