WhatisAlcoholEDUandHaven?
AngeloStateUniversityiscommittedensuringstudentsreceiveanexceptionaleducationandcanbesuccessful
notonlyintheclassroombutinbecomingasuccessfulmemberofourcampuscommunity.Aspartofthis
commitmenttoprovideapositiveeducationexperience,ASUhasimplementedacomprehensivetraining
programtoassiststudentsinmakingsafedecisionsrelatedtoalcoholuseandrelationships.AlcoholEDU®isan
online,research-basedalcoholpreventionprogramthatprovidesatailorededucationalexperiencefocusingon
theimpactthatalcoholhasonthemindandbody.AlcoholEDU®helpsstudentsmakewell-informeddecisions
aboutalcoholwhilegivingthemtheopportunitytodevelopskillsthatwillhelpthemhandlepotentialdrinking
behavioroftheirpeers.Haven®isthecompaniontoAlcoholEDU®andfocusesonhealthyrelationshipsand
sexualassaultprevention.Haven®teachesstudentsaboutsettinggoodboundaries,practicinggood
communication,affirmativeconsent,howtobeanactivebystander,andsignsofinterpersonalviolenceand
sexualassault.
WhoisrequiredtocompleteAlcoholEDU®andHaven®?
Allincomingstudents(firstyearFreshmen,transferstudents,returningstudents,graduate,andinternational
students)mustcompletebothcourses.Studentsmustcompletethetrainingevenifastudentisnotafreshman,
ifthestudenttookthecoursesatadifferentinstitution,isanon-traditionalstudent,orifthestudentdoesnot
planondrinkingorhavingrelationshipswhileincollege.
HowdostudentsknowtheyhavetocompleteAlcoholEDU®andHaven®?

StudentsreceiveaflyerintheirfoldersatNSOandthecourseisdiscussedatNSO,RamRound-Upand
RambunctiousWeekend.
Studentsreceiveane-mailonJanuary17thtitled“ImportantMandatoryTitleIXTraining--Requires
ImmediateAttention!”andwillcontinuetoreceivee-mailcommunicationaboutbothPartIandPartII
untilthecourseiscompleted.
Studentsalsoreceivephonecalls(unlessthestudenthasaninternationalnumber)remindingthemof
theneedtocompletethiscourse.

Part I of AlcoholEDU® will take approximately 1.5 – 2 hours. Progress can be saved to complete in
multiplesittings.

Whatisrequiredforstudentsto“pass”thequizzesinAlcoholEDU®andHaven®?
Apreandpostquizwillassesstheknowledgestudentsgainfromeachcourse.Inordertocompleteorpassthe
course,studentsmustreceivea70%orbetteronthepostquizzesforeachtrainingmodule.
Aretheresponsestosurveysandquizzesconfidential?
Allsurveyandquizresponsesarecompletelyconfidential.ASUwillonlyreceiveinformationaboutthe
studentbody’sresponsesasawholeinordertoplaneffectivepreventionprogramming.ASUwillneverseean
individualstudent’sanswers.

theirsecondsemesteroncampus.Theholdwillbeplacedthelasttwoweeksofthesemesterbefore
