Guidelines for Signs
*All signs must be pre-approved by Mrs. Nuñez or Ms. Salazar. They may only be taped to poles,
pebble surfaces, and concrete walls using masking tape or clear duct tape. Signs may not be taped to
vinyl walls, doors, Plexiglas, or painted lockers. They are to be removed by 4:30pm the day before the
election and properly disposed of in the dumpsters. Candidates, for run-off elections, may save signs. If
these guidelines are not followed, you will be removed from the ballot.
You may have no more than:
Ten (10) 8 ½ x 11 signs total, to be hung anywhere in the building
Two (2) Poster board sized signs total, to be hung on the first and third floors
One (1) Larger than poster board sized sign, to be hung on the second floor
Handmade (by candidate) pin-on business card size cards for supporters to wear
**All signs must be initialed by Mrs. Nuñez or Ms. Salazar before you hang them.**

All signs must be pre-approved (initialed) by Mrs. Nuñez or Ms. Salazar on Wednesday, Sept. 9
before they are hung. If you do not follow the campaign guidelines, you will be disqualified.

All signs must be taken down by 4:30pm Thursday, September 10.

Behavior issues will not be tolerated if you are a student leader.

If any of the procedures listed in this packet are not followed, you will not be eligible to run for
office and your name will not appear on the ballot.

Those applying for officer positions should be committed and prepared to spend extra time serving the Student Council.
Please answer each of the following prompts with well-reasoned and organized paragraphs on a separate
sheet of paper and attach to this page.
1. What officer position are you applying for? What makes you a good candidate for this position?
2. As an officer, are you willing to make the extra commitments of your time and talent to Student Council?
3. What other leadership roles have you taken while at Austin High? How have these roles made you a better
leader? How will these skills help you as a leader in Student Council?
4. Please list the activities you are involved in and when they meet. Cabinet meets on Thursday at lunch in the
Maroon Room. As a Cabinet member, what priority will you give Student Council?
5. Do you have any commitments on Tuesday or Wednesday during lunch?

office for which I wish to run, and I have read the general policies of the Board of Education as they
apply to my office. I will abide by the general policy outlines in these rules, and I will make my office
my first priority after studies- my most important school activity, if I am elected. I will abide by all rules
of the campaign and campaigning.

Please Note:
By applying for a class officer position, you will not only be leading your graduating class, but
also be an avid participant within Student Council. Each officer elected will be a member of one
of the committees listed below. Class officers MUST be committed to this duty for the entire
school year, including attending all student council cabinet meetings. Regular cabinet meetings
are Thursday during lunch in the Maroon Room. You are expected to attend these meetings.
After THREE absences, you will be REMOVED from Student Council. If you are not present
for the entire meeting or event for any reason, you are considered absent.
