Last August 28, 2009, Bangko Kabayan was awarded as the Most Outstanding Rural Bank in Calabarzon for the Year 2008 during Landbank's 11th Outstanding CFI Awards Night held at the Diosdado Macapagal Hall of Landbank Plaza, Malate, Manila. Among the 388 rural bank conduit of the Land Bank of the Philippines, Bangko Kabayan has been selected for being one of Landbank's most effective and active partners in countryside credit delivery, thereby helping fasttrack progress for the benefit of its clients and the community it serves. Ms. Gilda E. Pico, Landbank President and CEO greeted all countryside financial institution awardees for the event while the Hon. Margarito ‘Gary’ B. Teves, Secretary of the Department of Finance and Landbank Chairman of the Board delivered his keynote speech later in the program. At the awarding rites, Ms. Gilda E. Pico handed over the plaque to Banko Kabayan through its President, Atty. Francis S. Ganzon. The BK delegation who witnessed the awarding were Managing Director Teresa M. Ganzon, Executive Vice President Liza V. Mercado, and Loans Manager Enrico M. Arcillas. During the same rite, Bangko Kabayan received another special award on matters related to financial productivity. This is indeed something all BK stakeholders should be proud of. Bangko Kabayan Holds 2009 General Assembly in Tagaytay By: Dave Alar The annual Bangko Kabayan General Assembly was held last August 21, a couple of days after the bank's 52nd Anniversary, at Angel's Hills, Tagaytay City with almost a hundred percent of BK people in attendance. A regular program was staged instead of a tree-planting activity which was announced early this year. Employees were greeted by an energizing getting-to-know-each-other activity followed by a moving opening remarks from no less than the President, Atty. Francis Ganzon. Continue on page 2... Page 2 NEWS 2009 General Assembly, continued from page 1… Hosted by the indefatigable Rymar Gutierrez and Neil Marundan, this year's program included the introduction of newly-hired employees from January 2009 to August 2009, announcements on Bayaning Bayanihan campaign of Marketing and a voluntary tree-planting activity by IRBFI that was slated the following Saturday (August 29), a financial literacy course presented by a BK favorite speaker, Bong Roxas, re-introduction of BK Management Training Program and the much-awaited recognition of the mid-year rewards program awardees. A total of thirty one (31) new members were welcomed to the fast-growing BK family. This year's count is just short of one (1) employee from last year where we hired thirty two (32) during the same period. For the rewards program, a total of eighteen (18) employees coming from different departments and bank branches were given recognition. Special awards were also given to three branches. There were three (3) employees given the Innovation Award, four (4) for Admin Excellence, seven (7) for Extra Mile, two (2) for Individual Special Award and two (2) Special Recognitions. Corresponding monetary rewards were handed to the awardees aside from the certificates. The next awarding is scheduled this December during the company Christmas Party where we hope to see more employees getting rewarded. The day ended with a light merienda and a closing message from Ms. Tess Ganzon, BK's Managing Director. BK Now a “Mother” (BK Adopted Two Schools) By: Mean Alarcon -Olan It is BK’s first time to venture into the Adopt-A-School Program under RA 8525. For this year, BK adopted two schools. First Adoptee: Calumayin Elementary School Last July 8, 2009, BK turned over an ETV Package to Calumayin Elementary School in Cuenca Batangas. The package composed of a 21-inch colored T V, a DVD player, and 33 instructional DVDs’, was received by Mrs. Elizabeth Cadacio (School OIC) and Mrs. Aurora Palomares (School Teacher). Barangay Officials and KAPITAN Members were also present to witness the turnover ceremony. The BK Team who went to Calumayin was composed of Atty. Francis Ganzon (President), Teresa Ganzon (Managing Director), Fides Ganzon (Marketing Manager), Norman Cometa (MFU Head), Isabel Montealto (OIC – CBB), Angeline Alfante (MF Supervisor), Mark Makalintal (AO – CBB), and Mary Anne Olan (IRBFI Director). Calumayin Elementary School in Brgy. Calumayin, Cuenca, Batangas is situated along Taal lake shore, and is not accessible to public transportation. To get to the place, one has to walk down a more than 3,000-step path, in the middle of a forest of a mountain side. An alternate way would be a 30-minute motorboat ride from Tagbakin, Lipa City. The BK Team opted the boat-ride. The land where the school is built is a private property. For this school year, there are only two grade levels – Grades 2 and 4 -- which are being accommodated by only one teacher (Mrs. Palomares, who has been handling the school since 1979) at the same time. By next year, they’ll have Grades 1 and 3. The school’s mother-school is in Lumampao, Cuenca, Batangas. With the serene lake-water, calming view, friendly folks and superb food, the trip to Calumayin was a soothing experience. Aside from delivering BK’s donation to the school, the BK team also had a perfect avenue for a focused group discussion with the KAPITAN Members of Calumayin Center. Second Adoptee: Macalamcam National High School Next stop is in Macalamcam B National High School. The BK Team – composed of Florence Caraan (OIC – RBB), Geraldine Magpantay (MF Supervisor), Ben Guerra (AO – RBB), Gerneil Rivera (MF Trainor), Norma Cometa (MFU Head), and Mary Anne Olan (IRBFI Director) – went to Macalamcam, Rosario, Batangas last July 20, 2009 to turnover 100 units of armchairs to their High School. The items were turned over to Mrs. Andrea Malapitan (HS Principal). Macalamcam’s Brgy. Officials, PTCA President, Faculty members, and Students’ Representative were also present to witness the receipt of the donations. Macalamcam B National High School is located in a remote area in Brgy. Macalamcam B, Rosario, Batangas. It is not accessible to public transportation, though the road going to the school is cemented. The land where the school is built was donated by a certain Mr. Magboo. The school was established last 1992. At present, it has a population of 325 students. Each year level has two Continue on page 10... Page 3 NEWS IRBFI and BK Join HARIBON’S Tree Planting Activity By: Mary Anne Olan Last August 29, 2009, fifty four BK and IRBFI volunteers, along with other groups and private individuals, joined the Tree Planting Activity facilitated by HARIBON Foundation at Caliraya Watershed, Cavinti, Laguna. The event is a project of ROAD (Rainforest Organizations and Advocates) To 2020 movement which aims to restore one million hectares of Philippine Rainforests by planting native tree species with the assistance of various organizations/volunteers until year 2020. Two thousand five hundred (2,500) seedlings composed of native trees (namely igyo, marang, narra, makaasim, alibangbang, batino, bitaong and lanite) were planted on that day at the said watershed. Out of this number, 1,000 seedlings were donated by IRBFI. Having these native tree species in abundance will recover and conserve biodiversity, optimize our supply of forest benefits and ecosystem services, reduce the risks of natural hazards such as landslides, and enhance options for sustainable livelihood. The participation to this momentous event is in consonance with IRBFI’s objectives to push volunteerism efforts among BK employees and to promote sustainable development through environmental awareness initiatives. Two Rural Banks from Bicolandia Visit Bangko Kabayan By: Marvin Arsua Last September 14-15, 2009, the Rural Bank of Camalig and Rural Bank of Guinobatan, came to Bangko Kabayan for a Study Visit. They were welcomed by the officers of the bank headed by our Managing Director Teresa M. Ganzon. On the first day of their stay, the visiting group was briefed about the history, mission-vision, core values and organizational structure of Bangko Kabayan. They were toured to all the departments in the Executive Office to get familiar of the functions of each. They also visited Kapitan Centers to witness how center meetings were held. They were in awe how organized our Account Officers conducted center meetings - the members’ sincere participation in weekly meetings and the discipline shown by each member of the center. On the second day, TMG gathered feedbacks from their learnings about the host bank. Later, the host and the visiting banks exchanged experiences in operating a rural bank. According Mr. Mario Honrado, President of Rural Bank Federation of Bicol Region, they have high regard for Bangko Kabayan’s exceptional banking practices. Before leaving, the visiting delegation gifted BK with products from Bicol while the host bank gave them native products made by BK’s microfinance clients. The Bicol delegation left bringing with them not only the learnings from two-day visit but also the genuine friendship extended by Bangko Kabayan. BK Joins Global International Coastal Clean Up By: Marvin Arsua Last September 19, 2009, Bangko Kabayan participated in the annu al international coastal clean up with the theme “Beyond a One-Day Clean Up: Living Environmental Awareness Everyday” in Anilao Mabini, Batangas. The activity was attended by BK-Mabini staff and financially supported by the Ibaan Rural Bank foundation (IRBFI). The Continue on page 10... Lemery Branch: Record Breaker!!! By: Emmanuel Espino, LBB Deposit Liability Bookkeeper IV “In the last two years, BK has opened 4 new branches whose locations are urban in nature. The branches have found themselves in cut-throat competition with fellow rural banks and commercial banks alike. All of them have taken more than 15 months to break-even except for one. This particular branch has managed to earn their first operating income after a record breaking 10 months. This may also be attributed to their energetic leader who also holds the record for highest points garnered by an OIC. Congratulations to Lemery Branch headed by Mr. Rey V. Orense.” - by TMG October 23, 2007 marked the emergence of Bangko Kabayan Inc. Lemery Branch from the previous LCDP Lemery. This transition sparked not just the excitement among the pioneers in this branch, but more so, the challenge of rearing a baby branch into a dynamic and viable one to withstand and battle the stiff competition in the industry. Alongside with an array of opportunities comes a chain of responsibilities and a call to commitment towards personal and intra-personal excellence for the fulfillment of this common goal. Here in Lemery Branch, everything started out as a trial - trials which made us one family under God's loving care; trials that made us believe that God had allowed such to make us strong and achievers in the near future. There were times when we experienced difficulties in our jobs, and we almost have quitted. But because the family of BK, being there to stay beside us all the time, all the way, during the hard times, no one ever did; except for those who happened to grab newer endeavors along their ways. Yes, we have been indulged into so many things that we felt we have failed and we must give up, but Somebody behind us makes things happen and sometimes pushes us to keep on moving on, lifting us up to help us realize that this institution will always have her “wings” ready for us to fly with. Late August of this year, Bangko Kabayan-Lemery Branch was acclaimed a record breaker for earning its first income for the period of ten (10) months. Among the four branches that have been opened in the last two years, Lemery Branch was the earliest and the first to gain profit despite the high competition with fellow rural banks and other commercial banks in the locality. A lot of difficulties occurred and so many adjustments have to be settled; Thanks to the management, they have made us prepared to purge those problems and be flexible enough to deal with unexpected changes. The painstaking struggle of everyone has PAID OFF! The Branch has taken its first leap off!!.. MORE TO GO!!! Page 5 Tanauan Countdown Begins: Tree of Hope By: Rymar Gutierrez, MF Area Supervisor With P 7,387,774.76 total deposit, P 47,754,682.71 total loan portfolio with 173 borrowers as of August 2009 after 16 months of operation, this shows how Tanauan Branch is determined to achieve their goals. It was a coincident that on the month of August I was temporarily assigned in the branch where I observed a lot of things. One significant observation is TCB’s cooperation and dedication to work for their targets and for the success of the branch. The months of August and September seem to be very favorable for Tanauan branch for so many reasons. Mr. Orlando Garcia, their former CA, was promoted to SME specialist. Manager Rico Arcillas, our loans manager, will now take his post as full time manager of Tanauan. They were united again and everyone is so excited for the coming days where they all agreed to work hand in hand and support each other to achieve their goals. The “Tree of Hope”, as they claim, epitomizes the future of the branch. On a daily basis, using the pieces of recycled paper allotted for the tree planting activity, an employee of the branch will post his “leaf” to eventually form a figure of a tree, which for them symbolizes the branch. Everyone is given a chance to have his own schedule of posting but before he posts his “leaf”, he must share to everyone his wish for the branch. Since the materials were sent on the 7th day, three employees posted their leaves during the first day. Everyone is so excited for their turn of posting and sharing their own wishes for the branch. The employee’s wishes are predominantly about their goals to succeed, for the achievement of their targets and for the best by year-end. Tanauan Branch had begun with their countdown for 2009 with the hope that endeavors on each passing day will ultimately add up to the achievement of their goals and targets. The branch is now highly motivated and firmly believes that they can make it now that they have a full time Branch Manager. WELCOME TO TANAUAN BRANCH Manager RICO! Kudos TCB!!! Kapitan Palahanan 1’s Pilgrimage to Penafrancia By: Limwell Adan, SNJ KAPITAN Account Officer One of the interesting things about being a microfinance account officer is that you can travel to many places, and the respect and care offered by KAPITAN members. Last September 11, 2009, the members of Kapitan Palahanan 1 (one of the oldest center in the branch), with AO Ronald Bautista, Sir Rymar Guitirrez, Sir Prudence Panopio and I, went to Naga City to attend the pilgrimage to Penafrancia. Traveling by jeepney, we left San Juan at 8:00 PM. The trip was a seven-hour exhausting experience. Along Maharlika Highway, we had about four stopovers for refueling. We had a nearly half-an-hour rest when one of the jeepneys had its tire busted and we all stopped and waited to have it replaced. A few hours later, we reached the beautiful city of Naga. The Bicol Region is usually known to us as the “land of siling labuyo”. Bicolanos are noted for their hot pepper laced cuisines. But few of us recognize that they are religious in nature. They celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Penafrancia so lavishly that even tourists (local and foreign) flock together to join the festivity. At 5:00 AM, a church mass was held but it was somewhat Greek to me. I could not understand every word uttered since it was delivered in Bicol dialect! Whew, what an experience! This is not the first time Kapitan Palahanan 1 have had their field trip. They have been to Bagiuo City twice, in Manaoag, Pangasinan, in Tagaytay City, in Antipolo City. They have visited the historical site of Intramuros, with a cross trip to Star City which they claimed to have enjoyed much despite their ages. COLUMNS Page 6 Oracle Gerneil Rivera SALAMAT, Tita Cory DOC's Security and Safety Corner By: Dante O. Chan, CSP Security and Safety on Holidays Joy is in the air as we have approached the “BER Months”, but is certainly is not an excuse for us to forget or set aside the relevance of Safety and Security Awareness during the holiday season. On November 1 & 2, people will be out to pay respect to our departed loved ones and not long after, Christmas, the most joyful season of the year will just be around the corner. The following are some important security and safety tips relevant to these occasions which I would like to impart and share not only to my dear co-employees at BK, but also to their friends, families and loved ones as well: Security and Safety on All Saints Day and All Souls Day: This year, November 1 & 2 falls on a Sunday and Monday respectively, a long weekend shall be again observed. Almost everyone will flock off to the cemeteries to visit the grave/s of their loved ones. On this occasion, petty criminals are more inclined to capitalize on the situation. We should therefore be smart to knock them off instead of taking this matter for granted. Security and Safety Tips: 1. If you are planning for an out-of-town trip, be sure that your home is properly secured. If no one would be left behind, have it locked and request assistance from your trusted neighbors to oversee it while you're on vacation. 2. See to it that all appliances are unplugged, shut off the water main valve and switch off the electrical circuit breaker to avoid contingencies that may result to fire and flooding leaks in your house while you are away. 3. When at the cemetery, obey the rules and regulations being implemented by the authorities in the locality i.e. ban on drinking intoxicating liquors and bringing in deadly weapons to avoid legal impediments. 4. Avoid crowded places and always attend to your children and do not allow them to loiter around. 5. Avoid staying overnight at the cemetery especially when you do have children with you. 6. Refrain from buying cooked food and prepared refreshments in the area. It is recommended that you bring your prepared / packed food to avoid food poisoning and other related illness. 7. Always bring with you an umbrella or raincoat and first aid kit with over-the-counter medicines. When we go out we do not know what will lies before us. 8. To avoid traffic and rush, you can visit the cemetery on October 31 or on November 2, when there is lesser volume Page 7 9. When it is impossible or just feeling lazy to go out and prefer to just stay at home and light candles for the dead, make sure to put them off before retiring to bed. Security and Safety on Yuletide Season: Christmas Holidays are a special time when families and friends come together to celebrate the season. It is also the time of year where families and friends are most generous and practice the tradition of gift giving. It should be a joyous and happy time for all of us. Unfortunately for us, home burglars view the holiday season a little differently. For them, it is a time of opportunity to burglarize your home for cash, and all the new gifts of small electronics, computers, jewelry, and easily sold valuables. In our workplace, thievery and terrorism from the outside can not be discounted especially when these lawless elements have gain opportune time. Security and Safety Tips: 1. Security guards must be extra vigilant in inspecting packaged gifts. The use of metal detector and thorough inspection on incoming gifts should be done religiously. 2. Beware of packages without a return address of sender, it could be a parcel bomb. 3. All incoming gifts for the employees should be temporarily kept at the guardhouse, which could be claimed later upon their departure after office hours. A special logbook shall be formulated to record receipt and release thereof. 4. Avoid buying substandard Christmas lights which is the rampant cause of fire during Yuletide. 5. Switch off all lighted Christmas lights before leaving the office and before sleeping time in your home. 6. During the Christmas and New Year's Day revelries, refrain from buying and igniting substandard pyrotechnics. 7. Seek safety on sturdy or concrete roof to avoid stray bullets courtesy of irresponsible gun owners. 8. Avoid prolonged inhalations of pyrotechnic smoke and protect your hearing by using earplugs or earmuffs. 9. Stay healthy during the holiday feasts and parties by eating the right and healthy food, the right amount and likewise, drink moderately. 10. When planning an out-of-town vacation, where nobody is left behind, make sure that all windows and doors are well locked and secured. Electrical main switch and main water valve must be shut off. 11. Do not tell anyone especially those whom you do not trust of your planned vacation. Robbers will have opportunity to burglarize your house. Request your nearest trusted friend, relatives and neighbors to oversee your house while you are away. HAVE A SECURED, SAFE AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS AHEAD!!! Page 8 FEATURES The Koinonia 2 Batch 3 By: Gaye Gonzalvo Many of the BK employees intended to join the Tree Planting activity in Cavinti, Laguna on August 29, 2009, but to our surprise, HR asked the third batch to attend the Koinonia 2 instead on that same day since Fr. Mimo is leaving for Canada for his kidney ailment. Nevertheless, we were glad for such turn of tides. We have known Fr. Mimo for making us laugh, cry and realize the value our own selves as well as our families. That the morning, we had a good breakfast at the Mariapolis Center. After reviewing the last Koinonia’s topics, we had an activity where we were instructed to form a circle while we pass through the hula-hoop without breaking the link. Through the cooperation of the team, we were able to beat the 4 minutes and 30 seconds norm. From the activity, we learned that goals can be achieved through unity. We were given another activity of making our road map in BK as we travel per department through the many streets in our lives. We had a working merienda as we explore ourselves in the world of arts. All branches and departments presented the true scenario of their ups and downs; when a co-employees leaves or is transferred to another branch; the trials that we prevailed over on matters brought about by the folding up of the Legacy Group; as well as how we stayed firm despite the ever challenging world of banking. After lunch, Fr. Mimo gave us the hula-hoop and asked us put it down using our index finger pointing forward. No group was able to perfect the activity since the said hulahoop is going up despite putting all our fingers down. We then continued to find out more about ourselves and our parents too. We learned how and why our parents treated us differently, merely because they too were products of the same kind of parents. But one realization came across me. I was a product of bartering parents while my husband is a product of an over controlling parent, as a result I see ourselves as strong but split parents. Although in our lives as BK employees, we learn so many things and more about values, we do communicate this with our families, but moreover, they usually see it as good but due to lack of seminar or exposure with these kinds of activities, they usually don’t mind what we say no matter how hard we explain it to them. If we can only include them in our Koinonia or recollection session, then I will. After dinner, we watched an animated film entitled Brother Bear. During the beautiful Sunday morning of August 30, 2009, we discussed our insights regarding the film and talked about the different versions of “LOVE one another”. We then heard mass with Fr.Mimo as the celebrant and after lunch, TMG discussed about the Economy of Communion and how BK embraced it. We thought that Koinonia is tearless until when we filled out the illustration board, containing our picture, of who we are as Koinonia disciple and what we want to be. All of us signed and we can’t help but cry when Fr. Mimo played the song I will be here. We were carried away with the song thinking that our journey in BK is still long and we need each others help in every step we take. Once and for all, batch3 is still very lucky to have Fr.Mimo as our Facilitator despite his kidney ailment. We all hope for his wellness in Canada being our instrument in knowing ourselves and GOD. Once again, Thank you Fr. Mimo. Recognition and Appreciation By: Rey Orense Recognition is greatly appreciated by everyone, not just people in business and industry. Even a little bit of recognition can go an incredibly long way in a person's life. Recognition can be given verbally, written in a piece of paper, in monetary or non-monetary basis. A too common mistake, especially among leaders in the marketplace, is the failure to share recognition and show appreciation to others. One cause of dissatisfaction among employees is their superior’s or management's failure to give them credit. Some people find it difficult to follow someone who doesn't appreciate them for who they are and what they do. I have read a story about a teacher telling how recognition and appreciation made impact on the lives of her students. The story goes: One Friday, Ma'am Reyes sensed that the students were frustrated with themselves and edgy with one another. To stop this crankiness, she asked them to list the names of the other students in the room on two sheets of paper, leaving a space between each name. Then she told them to think of the nicest thing that they could say about each of their classmates and write it down. That Saturday, she Page 9 Features individual. On Monday, she gave each student his or her list about that individual. The entire class was smiling. She never knew if they discussed them after the class or with their parents, but it didn't matter. The exercise has accomplished its purpose. That group of students graduated and moved on with their chosen career. She haven't heard from them for several years. Until one day, the father of one of her students named David visited her. His son was killed in battlefield in Zamboanga City, and they wanted that his teacher be present in the funeral. The church was packed with David's relatives, friends and former classmates. One by one, those who loved David took a last walk by the coffin and sprinkled with holy water. Ma'am Reyes was the last one to bless the coffin. As she stood there, one of the soldiers who acted as a pallbearer approached her. “Were you David's teacher?” the soldier asked. She nodded as she continued to stare at the coffin. “David talked about you a lot”, he added. After the funeral, all David's classmates together with his parents and Ma'am Reyes gathered together in their home. “Ma'am Reyes, we want to share you something,” as David's father taking a wallet out of his pocket. “They found this on David when he was killed. We thought you might recognize it.” Opening the billfold, he carefully removed a piece of paper that had obviously been folded and refolded many times. The teacher knew without looking that the paper was the one on which she had listed all the good things each of David's classmates had said about him. “Thank you so much for doing that, as you can see my son treasured it,” David's mother said. Surprisingly, all the students told Ma'am Reyes that they kept those pieces of paper and treasured it. That was when the teacher finally sat down and cried. What would make so many adults hold on to pieces of paper they had received years before as kids, some of them carrying those pages with them everywhere they went even in battlefield? The answer is recognition and appreciation. Everyone is incredibly hungry for recognition and appreciation. As you interact with people, walk slowly through the crowd. Remember people's name and take time to show them you care. Make other people a priority in your life over every other thing, including your agenda and schedule. And give others recognition at every opportunity. If you want to help people improve their quality of life, become more productive at work, and develop more positive relationships, then recognize them, appreciate them. Make them feel good about themselves, and the positive benefits will spill over into every aspect of their lives. And when they begin to experience these benefits, they will be grateful to you. Dice of Love: Art of Loving By: Conrad Miranda “Love your neighbor as yourself; Love your neighbor as Jesus; Be the first one to love; Love your partner; Make yourself one with others except in sin; Love your enemies; and Love all without exemption.” ON THE COVER: The winning pose. (From right to left) BK President - Atty. Students from different schools in Batangas City, and Mabini, as well as the employees from Mabini Local Government Unit (LGU) volunteered to collection debris and garbage from the coastal line of Anilao. Some volunteers did scuba diving to gather garbage from the seabed. According to the Manila Bay Environmental Management Project (MBEMP), the international clean up is the largest annual one-day volunteer effort in cleaning up the marine and coastal environment around the world. This activity aims to preserve the beauty of the sea for the generations to come. sections, thus the school has eight classes in all. The number of students in each class ranges from 35 to 45. Their organization is composed of 11 faculty members. Accordingly, the rate of graduate students who continue with tertiary schooling is very low in their area. Mrs. Malapitan reckoned that out of 59 graduates that they had last March 2009, only around five of them are in colleges right now. The BK Team, upon arrival, received informal but cheerful greetings from the students. The high school boys were also the ones who unloaded the 100 units of chairs from the delivery truck (because the truck had to be parked several meters from the school). They had to walk back-and-forth the alley while carrying the chairs. The boys looked tired afterwards, but the gratitude in their faces were very evident. Thank you very much to those wonderful boys (and maybe future BK AOs!) The occasion was also used for a focused group discussion with KAPITAN Members of the two Macalamcam centers. With the presence of BK’s MFU Head, the MF clients’ concerns were thoroughly and directly answered. As part of BK’s effort to carry on with its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs, the adopt-a-school project is now a regular part of the bank’s outreach activities in cooperation with Ibaan Rural Bank Foundation, Inc. Hinanahagis nila ang kubiko at pagkatapos, kung ano ang lumabas, mayroon isang magbabahagi ng karanasan tungkol sa isa sa sining ng pagmamahalan na lumabas. Work experience is another pre-requisite, some requiring 2 to 3 years of full-time work experience. Although most executives are business school graduates, experts say that an MBA degree is helpful but not the sole ingredient for carving a successful career. So the question remains: Will an MBA gets one to the top? Most experts say it will because most executive positions and those in the financial areas would usually require one. An MBA degree is also regarded as a shortcut to the executive level because the program gives the student a holistic view of business, a deeper understanding of its different aspects such as finance, marketing, sales, human resources management and sometimes even manufacturing. But first, what is an MBA degree, and why the insistence on obtaining one? A leading American business school describes the MBA degree as “a globally recognized qualification in the management field that offers new perspectives to managers by providing an understanding of major functions and challenges of business.” It further explains that the learning methodology of an MBA course is “highly interactive, requiring students to prepare, analyze and discuss different case studies everyday and to engage in extended hands-on activities.” From an HR person's point of view, I think that a balanced mix of educational credentials and solid work experience can get one to the top. An MBA degree is no guarantee that you will immediately nab a high-ranking job if you do not have a track record to back it up. Maybe a better goal to aspire for is the ability to carry out your duties well and to never stop looking for bigger responsibilities. Then you can supplement experience with graduate-school knowledge for a knock-out combination. By: Dave Alar
