Funny Picture of the Month

I dwell in a lonely house I know
That vanished many a summer ago,
And left no trace but the cellar walls,
And a cellar in which the daylight
falls And the purple-stemmed wild
raspberries grow. O'er ruined
fences the grape-vines shield The
woods come back to the mowing
field The orchard tree has grown
one copse Of new wood and old
where the woodpecker chops; The
footpath down to the well is healed. I
dwell with a strangely aching heart
In that vanished abode there far
apart On that disused and forgotten
road That has no dust-bath now for
the toad. Night comes; the black
bats tumble and dart; The whip poor
will is coming to shout and hush and
cluck and flutter about: I hear him
begin far enough away Full many a
time to say his say Before he
arrives to say it out. It is under the
small, dim, summer star. I know not
who these mute folk are Who
share the unlit place with me—
Those stones out under the lowlimbed tree Doubtless bear names
that the mosses mar. They are
tireless folk, but slow and sad—
Though two, close-keeping, are lass
and lad,— With none among them
that ever sings, And yet, in view of
how many things, As sweet
companions as might be had.

Helping Hands Sculpture
Eric Ordway, artist and former client of Progress Industries,
has been establishing himself as a recognized artist through his
weekly participation at Centre for Arts and Artists and in Jasper
and Marion County area exhibitions. Legally blind in one eye
and fully blind in the other eye, Eric has succeeded where many
have struggled.
During Eric's late teens, artist Mary Zmolek became his mentor,
strongest supporter, and close friend. The greatest technical
skill learned from his mentor was the art of shading. Eric
believes what was most remarkable about Mary's mentoring
was how she taught, not what she taught. To this day, Eric is
driven by Mary's encouragement to keep on drawing, pushing
himself always to higher levels of excellence.
Artist, Gary Price went to both grade
school and high school in
Montpelier, Idaho. After graduating,
he went on to study at Ricks College
in Rexburg, Idaho, served a twoyear mission for the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints in
southern Germany, then studied in
Jerusalem with Brigham Young
University. Price studied at Utah
Valley University where he met and
studied with sculptor Stan Johnson.
During Eric's years at Progress
Industries, he was often commissioned
to create portraits for friends. His
desire at this time is to resume doing
commission portraits of people or their
pets. Eric can be reached through his
email address
[email protected]. His cell
number is 641-417-9577 for discussion
of any art based project.

Yummy Pork Mummy Recipe
Ingredients
•3/4 cup heavy whipping cream
•1/4 cup Dijon mustard
•2 teaspoons minced fresh thyme or 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
•1 pork tenderloin (about 1 pound)
•2 teaspoons olive oil
•1/2 teaspoon salt
•1/2 teaspoon pepper
•10 sheets phyllo dough (14 inches x 9 inches)
•6 tablespoons butter, melted
•1 medium apple, peeled
Directions
•In a small skillet, bring cream and mustard to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 10-15 minutes or until mixture is reduced to about
2/3 cup. Remove from the heat; stir in thyme.
•Meanwhile, place pork on a rack in a shallow baking pan. Brush with oil; sprinkle with salt and pepper. Broil 6 in. from the heat for 6 minutes.
Remove from the oven; cool slightly. Change oven temperature to 400°.
•Set aside 1/2 cup mustard mixture for serving; spread remaining mixture over the pork. Place one sheet of phyllo dough on a work surface;
brush with butter. (Keep remaining phyllo dough covered with plastic wrap and a damp towel to prevent it from drying out.) Repeat layers four
times. Place pork on one edge of phyllo dough; roll up tightly to form mummy's body and tuck in ends.
•Place another sheet of phyllo dough on a work surface; brush with butter. Repeat layers three times. Cut into thin strips; wrap around pork
tenderloin bundle.
•Cut remaining sheet of phyllo dough in half; brush with remaining butter. Cut a 1-in. cube from the apple; wrap in prepared phyllo dough.
Position at the wide end of bundle for a head. Save remaining apple for another use. Discard remaining phyllo dough.
•Place bundle in an ungreased shallow baking pan. Bake, uncovered, for 15-20 minutes or until a meat thermometer reads 160°. Transfer to
a serving platter. Let stand for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve with reserved mustard sauce. Yield: 4 servings.

Congratulations on a job well done! Each year, Linda Klepinger along with volunteers from the Centre for Arts and Artists and the Newton community volunteer their time to wash and wax the numerous bronze sculptures situated throughout the Newton, Iowa community. Two of those sculptures happen to be located at the Progress Industries main campus in Newton. “Communion” is situated by the front entrance of P.I. “Annie” is located in the courtyard and garden area. “Annie” was donated by Carol Rothschild Bond to honor his wife, Ann, who passed away several years ago. This year, Tom Chandler and Jack Warrick volunteered alongside Linda Klepinger to make sure “Annie” maintains her youthful appearance. Both Tom and Jack reside in Newton and participate in P.I.’s Day Habilitation Program and Centre for Arts and Artists activities. Pam Herrema, P.I. Mental Health Coordinator, enjoyed a two week driving trip along the scenic Pacific Coast Highway (Hwy 1). The “Highway 1 Honeys” began their scenic trip in Oregon enjoying many experiences including camping in a yurt at the South Beach State Park and horseback riding on the beach in Bandon, Oregon. Pam traveled through Monterey and Carmel and visited the Haight‐
Ashbury corner before jumping on the Amtrak to Sacramento for the grand finale…Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac in concert at the Sleep Train Arena on July 6th. Readers may contribute to the newsletter with their own thoughts and ideas several convenient ways.
