Reading Program
Youth Services programs are limited to residents of the
Half Hollow Hills Library District; have your HHH
Library card available when registering. Please let us
know in advance if you require any special accommodations because of a disability.
Game Time
Monday thru Friday, July 2-August 17 (no session 7/4)
Dix Hills & Melville 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Ages 3 years & up
Come and enjoy the many board games available at the
Library. Play checkers, Monopoly, Clue, Scrabble and more;
including some great games for preschoolers that don’t require
reading. Picture Book Bingo
Fridays, July 6-August 10, 2:00-4:00 p.m.
Dix Hills & Melville All ages welcome
Join us for fun and prizes at both Library
buildings. Just match the pictures from your
favorite story books to win prizes. A great
game for emerging readers and preschoolers.
So—if you love Bingo, you won’t want to miss
a week. No registration is required. Younger
children may bring an adult to help them.
CSIs
Young Teen Club (Grades 6 & up) June 25 - August 11
The evidence is indisputable. There are amazing discoveries to
be made this summer at the library. Join the CSIs and enjoy good
books, great programs, prizes and fun for all. Earn Book Bucks for
books you have read, and redeem them at Prize Nights: Thursdays, July 12, 26, & August 16, 6:30-8:00 p.m. Youth Services
has the details. Registration is ongoing.
Superslueths
(Grades 1-5) June 25 - August 11
Children who complete their contracts will receive a ticket to
the Daffy Detective Squad on Wednesday, August 29, 11:00
a.m. or 7:00 p.m., at the Dix Hills building. This is a zany
ventriloquist puppet show with comedy illusions, music, audience
participation and a cast of hilariously daffy puppet detectives.
Registration is ongoing. (Kindergarten must be completed.)
Gumshoes
(Birth-5 years) June 26 - August 11
Join the Gumshoes, after you list one book on your baby’s
reading record, you will receive our baby kit, Baby’s First Steps.
Children who complete the four-book minimum requirement are
invited to Brady Rymer’s unique musical show on Tuesday, August 21, 7:00 p.m., at the Dix Hills building. Brady sets classic
and contemporary children’s stories to music. Children and parents
are invited to sing, play and dance along with shakers and scarfs
to Brady’s rocking renditions of children’s tales.
Erik’s Rainforest Ed-ventures
Tuesday, July 17, 7:00 p.m.

Ages 4 & up
Get ready for an amazing Ed-venture. The
always entertaining and informative Erik Callender will take you on a tour that highlights live
animals from four major biomes. Each ecosystem
will be represented by live reptiles, amphibians,
birds or bugs. You can guess who lives where, interact with the animals and . . . maybe Erik will
tell us why frogs like singing in the rain? Please
pick up your free tickets beginning July 2.

How To Smell A Clue

Ages 3-5 years
Learn about the clues your nose can find.
Join in as our instructor from Cornell Cooperative helps you play an outrageously
smelly game. Discover how you and the
animals on the farm explore the world one
smelly clue at a time. Make a smelly craft and meet a surprise
smelly guest. Please register beginning July 2.
King Tut & His Little Mummies
Wednesday, August 8, 4:30 p.m. - Dix Hills Ages 6-9 years
Did you know that King Tut’s tomb and mummy is followed
by a curse? Rebecca Kopcienski knows all about the curse and
the man who discovered King Tut and other mummies buried in
Egypt. Learn about King Tut’s short life and make a very cool
mummy to take home. Register beginning August 1.
Katie’s Puppets
Wednesday, July 25, 7:00 p.m. - Dix Hills Ages 3-8 years
Join Katie and her gang of puppets as they unravel The Mystery of the Missing Purple Puzzle Pieces. Mr. Puzzle can't find the
purple puzzle pieces for his puzzle parade. Can Mr. Mouse find
them in time? And why are purple puzzle pieces so important.

Behind The Scenes With Franee
The Clown
Wednesday August 1, 7:00 p.m. - Dix Hills
Ages 4 years & up; family
Watch as the character of Franee the
Clown is created right before your eyes. While
she applies make up and puts on her costume,
Franee will explain the basics of clowning,
makeup, props and magic. All of this culminates with a brief interactive comedy magic
show that will leave you in stitches. Pick up

A licensed nail technician
will teach you how to professionally manicure and decorate
your nails. Each student receives

In this math baking activity,
we will practice our pi-making
skills. Teens will make fruit pies
and then discover that the pies
they eat are measured by their

Wind Chime Craft

Ages 3-8 years and Grades 6 & up
Children will make a craft with teen volunteers. Teens will earn
Community Service Credit. Registration begins on July 10.

grade restrictions for each program. Please be considerate of the performer/instructor and arrive on time. We will hold your spot for 10 minutes past starting time.
