Part 3: Essay Questions
Below are 6 short essay questions; 3 will appear on your test, and you will choose 1 to answer in full
detail. The purpose of these questions is to show how much you know about the topic; write everything
you know about it to ensure full understanding.
Grading
When you select the one question you choose to answer on the test, you will be graded by how much
quality information you can provide. For every piece of quality information you share you will receive
points. You will organize your knowledge into a short essay paragraph structure: Introduction, body, and
conclusion.

Topic 1: Capitalism and Secularism
 Describe how humanism contributed to the rise of a capitalist and secular society in the
Renaissance as well as in our society.
Topic 2: Humanistic Philosophies
 What is the Humanistic approach and what specific philosophies (ideas) or systems arose from
it? Explain in depth.
Topic 3: Spread of Ideas
 What were the various reasons that slowed and sped up the exchange of knowledge and ideas
during the Renaissance? Explain in depth.
Topic 4: Renaissance Family and Education
 What were the roles and responsibilities of the mother, father, and children in the Renaissance
family unit? How does the Renaissance’s worldview on family compare to our current
worldview?
Topic 5: Influential Individuals, Humanities
 Who were the writers, artists, and philosophers that contributed to the development of the
Renaissance Humanistic philosophy and how did they contribute?
Topic 6: Influential Individuals, Sciences
 Who were the mathematicians, astronomers, and scientists that contributed to the
technological advancements of the Renaissance and how did they contribute?
