Doreen Magic Pinwheel Runner Supplies: Fat quarters will not work for this project 1/3 yard of two fabrics for pinwheel blocks (sample was red, green) 1/3 yard of fabric for border/binding (gold in the sample) 1/2 Yard of backing fabric 15” x 22” Piece of flat type batting. ***Please make sure to bring all your supplies*** Rotary cutter and mat with at least one 24” long edge Threads to match fabrics, especially important if you are staying to machine quilt your runner. Prewound bobbins, please do this! Walking foot, if you plan to stay to machine quilt. Rulers, size 6” x 6” and 8 ½” x 8 ½” square or larger, long ruler at 24” long Quilter’s rule Quick Quarter ruler- 8” or longer---$3 to $5 at the quilt shop, would be helpful Sharp Pencil or Pen for marking on fabric. Pins- at least 20 plus all the usual supplies of a quilt supply kit. Community Projects Report: First of all a big thank-you to Joyce Richard, she is finishing the fifth comfort quilt (hand quilted) so far this year. Good work Joyce. Please give finished quilts and bags to Bonnie Sproull, also any 30" blocks for the largest quilt in Woodstock. A reporter from the Bugle will be at our Dec. meeting for the presentation of children’s quilts to Sanctuary House and the cloth bags to the River Valley Support Group, this will take place at 7p.m. before our meeting. Refreshment Committee Report: Potluck supper for Dec. meeting will start at 6p.m. sharp. As we were short of food at our potluck last June, we are asking EVERYONE to bring food this time(just a smaller amount). Also, please bring your own place setting( cup,plate, knife,fork,and spoon) this will save all the washing up. Thank you for your co-operation, see you all in Dec. We would like you to note that a lot of program will be provided within the newsletter. Therefore, it is important that you read and print off the program portion of your newsletter and bring it to each meeting. Otherwise, you might miss something fun! Mystery Quilt Clue 3: In Clue 3, you will be using Color B and Color D. Choice A: Take (2) 5” x WOF B strips and (4) 1 ¼” x WOF D strips. Join them together to as shown in the diagram to make strips sets. Press seams towards the darker of the two colors. The strip unit should measure 6 ½” wide by WOF. _____________________ _____________________ <1 ¼” D <5” B _____________________ _____________________ <1 ¼” D } This is Strip Unit D. Make 2 Strip Units. Like you did in the previous Clue 2, Subcut the Strip Unit D into (40) 2” segments. Put these segments into a baggie and Label “Strip Unit D Segments”. Choice A continued: Take (2) 5” x WOF B strips and (4) 2 ¾” x WOF D strips. Join them together as shown in the diagram to make strip sets. Press seams toward the darker of the two colors. The strip unit should measure 9 ½” wide by WOF. _________________________ _________________________ < 2 ¾” D <5” B _________________________ _________________________ < 2 ¾” D This is Strip Unit E. Make 2 }Strip Units. Subcut Strip Unit E into (40) 2” segments. Put these segments into a baggie and label “Strip Unit E Segments”. Choice B: You will make strip units as shown in Choice A except you will be making more. For Strip Unit D, you will use (3) 5” x WOF B strips and (6) 1 ¼” x WOF D strips. You will make 3 Strip sets for Strip Unit D. You will Subcut into (60) 2” segments. For Strip Unit E, you will use (3) 5” x WOF B strips and (6) 2 ¾” x WOF B strips. You will make 3 Strip sets for Strip Unit E. You will Subcut into (60) 2” segments. Members are encouraged to share any information about shows that are near-by. • Happy Birthday Kathy Boone • Welcome to new members here tonight. Minutes – Corrections – Raffle Quilt - Janet Melanson also worked on this Motion: That the minutes of the September 5, 2012 meeting be approved as revised in Newsletter. Correspondence - thank you notes from Marg Clowes for comfort quilt; Charlene Monteith for comfort quilt and financial donation; Jolene Clark for financial donation. New Business 1. Quilt Guild Directory – Amanda is taking photos of members for a Quilt Guild Directory. For those that aren’t here tonight, photos will be taken again next month. Sue showed sample of book. The contact info collected will only be used by the guild members and will not be on-line. The cover will be photo of banner. Sue asked for suggestions for content on inside covers eg. Dates, quotes etc. The printing will be done compliments of Remax Realty. Suggestions given: “one thing no one would have guessed about me …..”, “I’ve been quilting since ….. or started quilting with ….” , “The first project I ever made ….” Motion: that Remax be allowed to advertise in the directory for printing the directory. Janet Wright/Sherry Gillis 1. Purchases Motion: To purchase cheques, deposit slips and cheque book from the bank, in the amount of $175. Janet Melanson/Janet Nichols. Carried Motion: To reimburse Joan Prosser for the purchase of a file box and folders in the amount of approximately $80. Marg Caldwell/Bonnie Sproul. Carried. Gathering of Guilds – The $200 passed to us when we were hosting the Gathering of the Guilds, is being passed on to Marco Polo Guild in Saint John. 2. Rent Motion: - to pay rent of the hall for our guild meetings, in two installments of $250 [$50 per month]. Janet Wright/Kathy Boone. Carried. 4. Name Tags – Last year the many members of the guild bought name tags. Catherine will send an email to the group to let members who don’t have one know they can order one by contacting Janet Melanson before Oct 15. Janet will order to have for Nov meeting. Committee Reports as per Newsletter - Fabric Draw Program - Community Quilts Instructors - Web Site Library - Super Saturdays Quilt Show - Refreshments Newsletter - Sunshine Retreat Super Saturday – October 13 - The Drunkard’s Path centrecloth that is made using coffee filters was displayed as the project to make in the morning; Christmas coasters were displayed as the project in afternoon. Details of supplies needed are in newsletter. November – Christmas table runner – Magic Pinwheel – several skills will be demonstrated; supply list will be in next newsletter. Members encouraged to sign up for Super Saturdays. Quilt Show – The Raffle Quilt made by Judy Boyd and Janet Melanson for the 2013 Woodstock Quilt Show was displayed. It is Queen size; pattern called bits and pieces. Tickets will be sold on the quilt. Everyone was given a fridge magnet as a reminder and promotion for the quilt show. Sunshine – Joan Folsom gave a review of cards sent over the summer and early fall. Shelley reported David is cancer-free! And thanked members for their concern. Community Projects - Bonnie Sproul displayed bags for local cancer society to put supplies in, for patients. Members are encouraged to take the supply kits. Sanctuary House needs linens of all types. Show & Tell: Members showed various projects. Several Jelly -Roll Race quilts from the September Super Saturday were displayed; also some community quilts. After the break, two Fabric Draws were made. Janet Wright and Janet Nichols were the winners. The fabric Draw is a monthly fundraiser for the Woodstock Quilt Guild. Fabric is purchased, tickets are sold, funds are raised and at least one lucky member increases the size of her stash. Program Program included specifics and a demonstration of the cutting and block assembly for the Mystery Quilt. The draw for the 2 1/2 " strips, which were all in red this month, was won by Susan Hayden. A trunk show by Margie Grieve, a quilting teacher from Harvey, followed. Margie entertained us, showing us numerous quilts and smaller projects which were most inspiring. Next Meeting: Monday, November 5, 2012 Respectfully submitted, Barbara Long Fons & Porter’s Quilt Tips: 1. It takes forever to finish a quilt if you don’t work on it! 2. Use a recipe card file to keep a running file of magazine articles or patterns that you may want to go back to in the future. Use file tabs to keep the cards in order by category. 3. If you have accidentally fused an applique in the wrong place, use a fabric softener dryer sheet as a pressing cloth to loosen the web so you can remove the applique to reposition it.
