INVICTUS Nelson Mandela Day of Caring– July 16, 2016 Out of the night that covers me, Black as the pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul. In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the Horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds and shall find me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul. Please save the date for this year’s Mandela Day project. Organized labor will be headed to the Lunalilo Home on July 16th to make the outdoors more accessible to the kupuna who reside there. There are over 40 residence who live in the home and Jill Martinez, Director of Activities asked for access to raised bed gardens, outdoor seating areas and coverage for the residence and their visitors. Union volunteers and their families will donate 4 hours of their time to make a difference in someone else’s life. The volunteers are taking action and inspiring change as Nelson Mandela did, helping to change the world for the better. Nelson Mandela International Day is an annual day to honor the legacy of the late civil rights activist and South African leader Nelson Mandela through volunteering and community service. This service project was inspired by a call Mandela had made for the next generation to take on the burden of leadership in addressing the world’s social injustices, saying “it is in your hands now.” Save the date: JULY 16, 2016 from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided.
