Weekly Word 11-30-2012 - St. Patrick School Webmail

Weekly Word From St. Patrick School NOVEMBER 30, 2012 WEEKLY MESSAGE This Sunday marks the beginning of Advent. It also marks the beginning of the new church year. Advent is our time of preparation for the birth of Jesus. The word Advent comes from the Latin word adventus, which means coming. I try to use the season of Advent as a time of reflection. I try to take a look at how I have been living my life. I start by asking the question, “Have I personally lived a life that our Lord expects?” I also try to stress to the children the true meaning of Christmas. We often get in the habit of thinking about what great gifts we are going to buy everyone, and try to pick something out for ourselves. We start to wonder what we might find wrapped up under the tree that has our name on it. I find myself at times thinking the same way. However, let’s take a look at what it is really about. Christmas is really about the birth of our Savior. Jesus lived life helping the poor, the sick, and the lame. It didn’t matter who you were, how much money you had as long as you believed. That is what Christmas is about. It is about helping others that may be struggling in life. It is about living life according to how Jesus expects us to live. GIVING TREE Each year, the Church puts up a giving tree. The giving tree this year will be used to help 40 to 50 children in our area to provide a nice Christmas for them and their families. Each child will have two angels (one for a toy and one for clothing). Each family will receive a red stocking (Christmas dinner), a white snowflake (towels) and two bells (one for cleaning products and one for personal hygiene items). The yellow stars are for cash donations to buy ham, eggs, bread, and milk for each family. I encourage you to go into church and help these families out. If you have any questions, you may contact Lynn here at school. CHRISTMAS CONCERT This year’s Christmas concert will be December 20 starting at 6:00. This will be for the entire school. EARLY DISMISSAL Please remember that there is an early dismissal next Friday December 7. HELPING HANDS I will be putting together a program that I will be calling Helping Hands. This is a program where people can donate towards certain needs of the school. The two needs that we currently have are in the areas of classroom needs and technology needs. The money donated towards this program will specifically go towards those things. I will be sending out more information in the future. STUDENT WINTER DRESS It is getting close to the time we will be getting snow. When it snows, please make sure you send a coat, boots, snow pants, hats, and gloves with your child. St. Patrick School
