All the school was treated to a display of
seven owls and falcons on Monday morning,
when the Welsh Bird of Prey Centre came to
visit us. The birds were magnificent, from a
large Harris hawk to a tiny pygmy owl. We all
had to be very quiet so as not to frighten
them, but they seemed quite happy to sit on
their perches.
I would like to say a huge Well Done to Mrs.
Saunders and Mrs. Davies who slept out in
Bath last Friday night in order to raise money
for Julian House – a shelter for the homeless.
They were accompanied by our Vice Chair of
Governors, Matt Life and his daughter Thea,
in Year 4. All tucked up in sleeping bags and
lying on the ground in the rain all night, was
an amazing effort and raised several hundred
pounds for the charity! Please see the
attached report. Julian House are very
grateful, sending us a fabulous letter of
thanks. So, well done to the four of you! (They
are also in the Wiltshire Times!)
Can I please remind parents that children
registered in any after school club, must not
go home or leave the school premises before
4.30pm. unless directed by yourselves
through an email, letter or phone call. We run
a very tight system of registration in each club
and if a child is missing from a club, a phone
call is made immediately to home. It is one or
two of the older children that “just take
themselves off” and this is of grave concern to
the school and a worry to parents. If your
child is in school that day and it is their club
night, they must attend unless we hear from
you directly. Please help us to keep your child
safe. Thank you.
Have a good weekend which is the second
one in Lent, leading up to Holy Week and
Easter.
Best wishes,
Mrs. Croker

School braves the elements to raise nearly £800 for charity
Victoria Davies, Thea, Matt and Kate Saunders
Robin Murray, Reporter / RobinNewsWilts
ST GEORGE’S Primary School raised nearly £800 for Julian House at the weekend by taking part in the annual Big Bath
Sleep Out. ...
Two teachers, a pupil and her dad from Warminster school braved the elements on Friday night to join around 200 others
sleeping under the skies in Alice Park, Bath.
By taking on the challenge and facing the wind and rain, Reception teacher Victoria Davies and Year 5 teacher Kate
Saunders, as well as pupil Thea and her dad Matt, raised £763 for the charity.
Mrs Davies said: “This year pupils in Year 3 are supporting Julian House because they were really inspired by a
representative from the charity who told them about their work at Christmas”.
“It was good fun but freezing cold and very wet. We didn’t have a tent or any luxuries, just a sleeping bag and a thick
coat”.
“Talking to people about what has inspired them to take part was really great and I’m glad we did it”.
“In the morning we were all very grateful that we had a warm home to go back to. Homeless people don’t have that
comfort – Its definitely something we take for granted”.
Last year the 230 people that took part in the outdoor sleepover raised an impressive £37,000.
The sponsorship money helps Julian House run its various projects in and around Bath, supporting over 1,000 different
homeless and excluded men and women every year,
Each class at St. George’s School is raising money for a different charity this year.
St Francis Class are collecting for WaterAid. Please join us and wear denim (jackets,
jeans etc) on Wednesday 22nd March – please bring a £1 donation. Thank you.
Last Friday, Year 2 raised £72.00 for The Forever Friends Appeal.
Well done to Year 2 and thank you to everyone who bought some cakes.
St Bernadette class had a surprise visit from Big Ted (our charity mascot) on Monday.

On Thursday 2nd March, Year 2 visited the SS Great Britain in Bristol. Year 2 have been finding out about the
life and works of Isambard Kingdom Brunel. We were all fascinated to see the ship close up and we found out
lots of interesting facts. The children had great fun dressing up!
