2017 Friends of Scouting Family Presentation
(Before starting have Scouts pass a card out to each family attending. Please do
not miss anyone)
[Cubmaster/Scoutmaster] We are excited to have {Name}, a fellow Scout parent
here with us to talk for a few minutes about the local annual Friends of Scouting
Campaign. Parents, volunteers, community leaders, and businesses donate to
Friends of Scouting to make sure that we have the resources that are required for us
to operate. What {Name} is going to talk with you about is very important. There
are so many greater costs to what we do in Scouting that we do not consider or ever
see and it is only fair for us to do our part and contribute as well.
{Name}, before you get started, I’d like to present to you my Friends of Scouting
gift for 2017 and I hope that each family in this room will consider joining me in
giving as well.
[Presenter] My name is {name} and I am a {parent and/or volunteer} with {Unit}.
Thank you for giving me a few minutes of your time to talk with you about Friends
of Scouting.
Your {Pack/Troop} is a part of the Atlanta Area Council which serves 13 metroAtlanta counties. The Atlanta Area Council is the backbone of Scouting providing
resources that you and I do not often see as parents.
It provides the training that helps our leaders deliver a fun, impactful, and
safe program.
It provides camping facilities for us to use at any time free of charge and
incredible outdoor adventure programs like Spooky-ree and summer camp at
Woodruff and Bert Adams. If you haven’t experienced these yet, you will and
you’ll be blown away by these facilities.
It provides insurance to help with care in the case that one of our guys gets a
sprained ankle.
It insures that every boy is able to participate in Scouting no matter what his
family circumstances are.
As a volunteer, I can call the Atlanta Area Council at any time for help and
guidance with providing my Scouts the fantastic program that was promised
to all families when they joined.
That $24 that we pay to the Boy Scouts of America each year goes directly to the
national office in Texas to fund program development. So that leaves it up to caring
community members to provide the funds needed to make our program run here in
our neighborhoods.
Friends of Scouting is the local, annual fundraising campaign for the Atlanta Area
Council. Parents, volunteers, community leaders, and businesses donate to Friends
of Scouting to make sure that every Scout Pack, Troop, and Crew has the resources
that I described before, resources that are required for us to operate.
So I am here today to ask for you to join thousands of other families and give a gift
to the Friends of Scouting campaign. It is important, and it is our responsibility as
parents to help cover the costs of these resources provided to our kids.
You have in your hands the Friends of Scouting brochure which has a pledge card in
it. Any gift will help, but we’d like for you to consider giving a gift of $280 which is
how much it costs the Atlanta Area Council to provide the minimum Scouting
program for your son. For a $280 donation, you will a special limited edition Atlanta
Area Council flashlight. (Show flashlight) But who wants a flashlight when you can
have a patch! For an investment of $560, you will receive a limited edition Scout
Oath Shoulder Patch (Show Patch) as well as the flashlight.
You can give your gift now, or simply make a pledge and note how you would like to
be billed. Anyone who makes a pledge today will receive a special Friends of
Scouting Car Magnet so you can let people know you support Scouting (show
magnet)!
Many companies offer a matching gift so be sure to check with your employer on
their matching gift procedures.
As you consider a gift, think about what Scouting means to you right now, and what
it might mean to your family in the future. Please watch this video “What Makes
Me A Scout”.
As we begin the pledge process, I want each of you to reflect on What Makes You A
Scout. Please take a moment to fill out your pledge cards now. When you are done,
please hold it up in the air and our Scouts will be around to help collect them.
[Pause for 5 minutes]
Again, when you are done filling out your card, hold them up so our Scouts can
collect them. I will tally the cards and let you know the total amount raised at the
end of the program. I know we will all be blown away with the generosity in this
room.
*When total is announced, present necessary ribbons based on level raised*
