ACCESSIBILITY
The ROM is committed to accessibility for all visitors. Access to
our collections and information resources is one of our primary
and defining responsibilities.
The ROM recognizes the diversity of our visitors’ abilities and
needs, and we offer a variety of programs and services to ensure
the accessibility of the Museum and its collections. Review the
program and service offerings for visitors with disabilities at
the ROM.
Entrances
The main entrance features automatic sliding doors and is located
on Bloor Street entering the Michael Lee Chin Crystal. Groups and
school groups may use the President’s Choice School Entrance,
located at the south end of the building on Queen’s Park.
Support Persons
Groups should use the President’s Choice School Entrance located
at the south end of the building on Queen’s Park. The President’s
Choice Entrance is equipped with an automatic door; a ramp
with handrails is located on the Museum’s south plaza by the
planetarium.
The ROM has developed an Admission Policy for persons with
disabilities that enables visitors who use a support person to
bring that person with them while accessing our exhibitions,
programs and services and their support person will receive
free admission. Please check our Ticket Information for details.
Taxis and other vehicles may use the off loading layby on either
Bloor Street West or Queen’s Park to drop off and pick-up visitors
with disabilities. A single, gently-sloped surface in textured granite
and concrete leads from the Bloor Street layby to all three new
entrances. Parking is not permitted in these lanes.
Access 2 Entertainment Program
The ROM has a board policy on Public Access and is working
with Ontario’s Ministry of Community and Social Services to
implement the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act,
2005.
The ROM is proud to be a partner of the Access 2 Entertainment
Program administered by Easter Seals Canada. This program
provides a dignified and positive entertainment experience for
people with disabilities who require the support of an attendant.
Program participants receive A2E wallet cards which allow
simple identification, removing the onus to explain their need
for an attendant. Participants pay regular admission while their
attendants receive complimentary admission to the Museum.
