Thisconferenceisthesecondstageofaresearchprogrammeentitled‘Musicand
Nation in the Interwar Period – Europe – Americas, which was initiated by the

‘Musiqueetnationdansl’entre-deux-guerres’,whichtookplaceon10December2015in

The second event in this collaborative programme aims to reflect on the use of
musicbypublicandprivatestakeholdersinlocal,nationalandinternationalcontexts.It
willgiveprioritytopapersthataddressthefollowingthreeunderlyingthemesfroma
national,transnationalorcomparativeperspective.

We particularly welcome abstracts that integrate a reflection on the interaction
between the objectives of cultural diplomacy, the actualeffects on the construction
and perception of the image of the nation, and the interactions between different
nations.
We are delighted to welcome Professor Annegret Fauser, Cary C. Boshamer
Distinguished Professor of Musicology, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in
association with the Sir John Manduell Research Forum series at the Royal Northern
CollegeofMusic.Herlecture,entitled‘NationalismandTransnationalisminTwentiethCenturyMusic:SomeHistoriographicalReflections’,willbefollowedbyaconcertgiven
bystudentsoftheRoyalNorthernCollegeofMusic.
