Submissions to this project are welcome from everyone 3. Participants will write a 100 – 500 word letter in response to the invitation from Neil Bartlett and Kate Pullinger. This word count is a guideline and not restrictive. 4. Wherever possible, letters submitted in languages other than English should be accompanied by a translation to ensure the widest possible readership for each letter. Where no translation is provided, translations will be sought and the letter withheld until translated. Both the translation and original text will be moderated and subject to the same criteria as submissions in English. 5. Entry is via an online form available at or via post using the downloadable submission form with the appropriate stamp to: LETTER TO AN UNKNOWN SOLDIER, PO Box 73102, London, EC1P 1TY Participants will provide their name, first part of postcode, age and email address on the submission form provided (your name will not be published online without your permission). 6. Any personal data provided will only be used for the purposes of administering the project in accordance with 14-18 NOW’s Privacy and Cookies Policy 7. Your email address will be used to notify you of key events relating to your participation in the project up until the close of the participatory period on 4 August. 8. If the participant is under the age of 16, an adult will be required to approve the entry and agree to these Terms and Conditions on behalf of and with the consent of the participant, by way of a check-box in the online form. The adult may be the child’s parent, guardian or teacher. 9. Entry opens on 8 May at 10:00. Entry closes on Monday 4 August 2014 at midnight. Please note this might change. Submissions received outside of this timeframe will not be uploaded, so please do not wait until the last minute to submit your letter. 10. Letters cannot be returned so please remember to retain a copy. Letters will be available for all to read on the website from 28 June 2014 to 4 August 2014 11. All letters must be the original work of the participant and must not infringe the rights of any other party. 14-18 NOW accepts no responsibility if participants ignore these Terms and Conditions and participants agree to indemnify 14-18 NOW against any claim by any third party from any breach of these Terms and Conditions. 12. Letters must not contain defamatory, obscene, offensive, or any other unsuitable material. Letters must be suitable to be used online by 14-18 NOW for audiences of all ages. 13. Participants retain the copyright in their letters but grant to 14-18 NOW a perpetual non-exclusive royalty-free licence to publish, broadcast (across all media) and post the letter online and on any other platforms yet to be envisaged, including published anthologies. This licence will be deemed to include all the necessary rights and permissions to enable such use by 14-18 NOW to complete the administration of this project. 14. The website including all letters will be archived and made publically available by the British Library via the UK Web Archive. 15. By submitting a letter the participant agrees that 14-18 NOW may at its sole discretion edit, adapt, abridge or translate the letter for the purposes listed in clause 12 above. 16. Participants cannot use any of the material on the LETTER TO AN UNKNOWN SOLDIER website for commercial use but can use the material under the Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial license. 17. 14-18 NOW reserves the right not to publish any letter online which breaches any of these Terms and Conditions. 18. 14-18 NOW reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions or cancel the project at any stage, if deemed necessary in its opinion, or if circumstances arise outside of its control. 19. 1418 NOW, its sub-contractors, subsidiaries, agencies and/or any other organisation associated with this project cannot accept any responsibility whatsoever for any technical failure or malfunction or any other problem with any server, Internet access, system or otherwise which may result in any letter being lost or not properly registered or recorded. Proof of sending is not proof of receipt. 20. These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
