3.1 Division of Nanoscience
Nanoscience is highly expected to contribute to construction of environmentally advanced technologies with aid of integration
science over physics, chemistry, biology, mechanics, and device engineering in nano-scale viewpoint. Newly developed novel
features in nanoscale science have not been understood yet on the basis of conventional theories and ideas. Students are
encouraged to approach to the novel borderless science. Division of Nanoscience has two departments of Nanomaterial Science
and Nanobiology.
1) Department of Nanomaterial Science
This department is composed of three different research groups, nanostructure physical chemistry, nanostructure molecular

quantum science, works in research to explain nano-scale phenomena related quantum science and to find new nano-scale
materials and devices. All research members have common interests in nano geometrical and electronic structures from different
point of views, and collaborate frequently. Students in this department are encouraged to join these collaborations.

Nanostructure Molecular Engineering
In this area we conduct researches electronically on surface and interface nano-physics dependent on the time-space scale and
electron-phonon coupling, and cooperative phenomenon by artificially building dimensional control nanostructures of molecular
aggregate. Additionally, we carry out physics studies covering the organic device reflecting cooperative phenomenon through the
molecular device using quantum physics of molecular nanostructure, thereby we develop new highly-functional devices. We
conduct creative studies by leveraging various surface physics approaches such as the hi-resolution photoelectron spectroscopy
applicable to the organic thin-film and various physics experimental methods, including the photoemission spectromicroscopy,
ultralow temperature UHV-STM. Furthermore, in this area we develop highly skilled engineers and researchers having global
knowledge and views by providing students with opportunities to acquire skills and knowledge of other boundary areas.
