TISSUE BOX GUITAR Tools and Supplies • Empty tissue box (rectangular) • Glue • Empty paper towel roll • Pencil • Rubber bands (3-4) • Scissors (and a grown-up to help!) Step 1: Find a grown-up to help cut out the cellophane from the tissue slot; this will make it easier to strum. Step 2: Use your marker to trace the paper towel roll on one of the the small sides of the tissue box, and have a grown-up help cut out the circle on the box. Step 3: Insert the paper towel roll into the hole, about two inches. Where the box meets the roll glue the tube in place and let it dry. Step 4: Decorate your guitar. Step 5: Add the strings. Stretch rubber bands lengthwise around the box and over the tissue slot. Roll a pencil under the rubber bands on the side opposite the guitar’s neck, and you are ready to play! TIP: Rubber bands with different widths will create different sounds! MARACA-CUPS Tools and Supplies • Two plastic or paper cups that are the same size • A handful of dried beans, rice, pasta, or beads • Glue • Masking tape • Paint or markers Step 1: Put the beans into one of the cups. Step 2: Glue the cups together and let dry. Step 3: Wrap masking tape around the rims for added support. Step 4: Decorate your maraca. Step 5: Dance and play! TOILET PAPER ROLL KAZOO Tools and Supplies • Toilet paper roll • Wax paper • Rubber band • Crayons, colored pencils, paint, or markers • Scissors (and a grown-up to help!) Step 1: Decorate your toilet paper roll. Step 2: Ask a grown-up to help cut out a small circle from the wax paper. Step 3: Secure the wax paper over one end of the toilet paper roll with a rubber band. Step 4: Hum into the open end of your new kazoo, and make some music! TIN CAN DRUM Tools and Supplies • A clean, empty tin can • Markers or paint (just make sure there are no sharp edges!) • Rubber band • Chopsticks, pencils, or spoons • A handful of dried beans, • Glue rice, pasta, or beads • Construction paper • Balloon • Scissors (and a grown-up to help!) Step 1: Decorate your tin can! Optional: glue construction paper to the outside of the can to make it easier to decorate. Step 2: Place the beans inside. Step 3: Ask a grown up to help cut off the small end of the balloon with the scissors. Step 4: Stretch the balloon over the open end of the tin can, and secure with a rubber band. Step 1: Print out your Music Class Today iron-on decal using iron-on transfer paper. Step 2: Have a grown-up help cut out the decal. Step 3: Place the decal face down on the shirt. Step 4: Have a grown-up help iron the decal on to the shirt (be sure to follow the directions on the package of the transfer paper). Step 5: Let it cool, then peel off the paper.
