Brampton A’s Media Team ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Monday, November 04, 2013 Brampton A’s Basketball Contact: Carly McGhie [email protected] 519.940.3735 ext. 206 Brampton A’s Pick Up 2nd Road Win HALIFAX, Nova Scotia. – The Brampton A's return from their trip out east with a 2-0 record and an early share of 1st place in the Central Division of the NBL Canada, after a 99-91 victory over the Halifax Rainmen. Both teams started slowly and tied after the first quarter, with a score of 18-18. The 2nd period started well for The A's before a cold stretch and some hot shooting by the Rainmen, who took a 11-0 run into half time with a score of 42-38 in their favour. Disappointed with his team's 34% shooting average and being held to 38 points, Coach Magley challenged them to, “stick to the offense and be patient,” assuring them that it would all work out. The A's responded in the second half with 61 points while continuing to play solid defense & holding the Rainmen to 49. Cavell Johnson had a monster game with 28 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 block shots. Jameson Tipping put up impressive numbers as well with 10 points, 16 rebounds, and 7 assists. Rounding out the other players in double figure scoring were Cedric Moodie with 18 points and 10 rebounds (his second consecutive double/double game) and Evaldas Zabas with 17 points and 4 steals. Coach Magley was pleased to see The A’s rebound after a slow start, "the Rainmen have not had a great pre-season and we knew Coach Terrell would have his guys ready to compete, and they were tough as nails, especially since they only suited up 8 guys (4 new players are clearing FIBA this week & will be joining them). As the game went on we started wearing them down and we definitely played more solid at the end. I was pleased with Jameson's play as a rookie, and was comforted that my veterans really showed up when called upon. Cavell, Evaldas, and Cedric were very good and Kevin Francis and Melvin Council were solid when we needed them." The A's return to the GTA this Tuesday, November 5th to play at the Hershey Centre against the Mississauga Power at 7:00 PM. Then after a 10-day layoff they play the Power a second time in front of their Brampton fans at the Powerade Centre at 7:00 PM on November 15th, for their home opener!
