1. Size by Employment Type
(1) Wage and salary
○ The wage and salary earners amounted to 19,233 thousand persons in March 2016, which
increased by 434 thousand persons (2.3 percent) from March 2015.
- The regular workers totaled 13,077 thousand people, which accounted for 68.0 percent
of the total wage and salary earners. This figure increased by 290 thousand people (2.3
percent) from March 2015. The non-regular workers totaled 6,156 thousand people, which
accounted for 32.0 percent of the total wage and salary earners. This figure increased
by 144 thousand people (2.4 percent) from March 2015.
- The share of non-regular workers stood at 32.0 percent of the total wage and salary earners,
which remained the same year-on-year.

○ The non-permanent workers amounted to 3,577 thousand persons, which rose by 160
thousand persons (4.7 percent) from March 2015.
- The fixed term contract workers totaled 2,810 thousand persons, which rose by 185 thousand
persons (7.0 percent). The fixed term contract workers occupied 45.6 percent of the total
non-regular workers, up 1.9%p year-on-year.
- The non-fixed term contract workers totaled 766 thousand persons, which declined by 25
thousand persons (-3.2 percent). The non-fixed term contract workers occupied 12.4 percent
of the total non-regular workers, down 0.8%p year-on-year.

(-0.5 percent) from March 2015.
- Compared to March 2015, daily workers and domestic workers dropped by 73 thousand
persons (-8.7 percent) and 3 thousand persons (-5.4 percent), respectively. In the meantime,
contract for a specific task and temporary agency workers rose by 37 thousand persons
(5.6 percent) and 25 thousand persons (13.3 percent), respectively.

○ The share of female non-regular workers (55.2 percent) was higher than that of male
non-regular workers (44.8 percent).
○ The male non-regular workers grew by 8 thousand persons (0.3 percent) to 2,761 thousand
persons. The female non-regular workers rose by 137 thousand persons (4.2 percent) to
3,395 thousand persons.

(2) Non-regular workers by age group
○ As for non-regular workers by age group, the non-regular workers in their fifties accounted
for 22.0 percent of the total non-regular workers. This share was followed by those in
their sixties and over (21.7 percent) and those in their forties (20.7 percent).
○ Compared to March 2015, the non-regular workers showed an upward trend in the following
groups.: those in their sixties and over (147 thousand persons, 12.3 percent), those in
their fifties (30 thousand persons, 2.2 percent), those in their twenties (26 thousand persons,
2.5 percent). In the meantime, the non-regular workers recorded a downward trend in the
following age groups.: those in their thirties (-38 thousand persons, -3.6 percent), those
in their forties (-17 thousand persons, -1.3 percent) and those aged 15 to 19 (-4 thousand
persons, -3.0 percent).

○ The non-regular workers engaged in 'Business, personal and public services' recorded
3,120 thousand persons, which occupied 50.7 percent of the total non-regular workers.
Those engaged in 'Wholesale & retail trade and restaurants & hotels' marked 1,149 thousand
persons, which occupied 18.7 percent of the total non-regular workers. Those engaged
in 'Construction' recorded 659 thousand persons, which occupied 10.7 percent of the total
non-regular workers.
○ The non-regular workers engaged in 'Business, personal and public services' and
'Manufacturing' went up by 173 thousand persons (5.9 percent) and 29 thousand persons
(5.6 percent), respectively. The non-regular workers engaged in 'Wholesale & retail trade
and restaurants & hotels' and 'Construction' went down by 45 thousand persons (-3.8
percent) and 22 thousand persons (-3.2 percent).

○ As for non-regular workers by occupation, elementary workers amounted to 1,924 thousand
persons (31.3 percent). This figure was followed by service workers and sales workers
(1,457 thousand persons, 23.7 percent) and managers and professionals (1,058 thousand
persons, 17.2 percent).
○ Compared to March 2015, craft, equipment & machine operating workers rose by 104
thousand persons (10.9 percent), which was followed by elementary workers (48 thousand
persons, 2.6 percent), service workers and sales workers (29 thousand persons, 2.0 percent),
and managers & professionals (7 thousand persons, 0.6 percent). In the meantime, clerks
fell by 45 thousand persons (-6.5 percent).
