The City of Athens, Texas is seeking a dynamic and professional ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER Athens, Texas is “Home of the Hamburger” with more than 13,000 residents. As the seat of Henderson County and conveniently located 45 minutes outside the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) Metroplex, the City of Athens is experiencing an exciting resurgence of growth and development. The City is home to Trinity Valley Community College, seven campuses of Athens ISD as well as several private schools. The community is well known for its rolling, forested hills and outdoor recreation, including Lake Athens, Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center and the East Texas Arboretum. Athens is governed by a Home Rule Charter with a Council-Manager form of government. The City has more than 135 authorized positions, a FY 2017 $20 million operating budget, and a newly approved $12 million capital improvements program, with a property tax rate of $0.685 per $100 of valuation. The Assistant City Manager is a key position within the organization. The successful candidate will work closely with the City Manager and management team members to carry out city-wide initiatives that will shape the community for the next several decades. Based on the selected candidate’s strengths and experience, the City Manager will determine the specific departments that the new Assistant City Manager will oversee in addition to the city-wide projects and initiatives the Assistant City Manager will lead. Position requires a passionate public servant who enjoys a fast-paced work environment where innovation and professionalism is valued. Requirements include a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Business, Engineering or closely related field plus a minimum of five years of increasingly responsible professional experience in local government or other related experience. A Master’s Degree is highly desirable. Athens offers a competitive salary, based on qualifications and experience.
