Maggie Anderson, PA-C - The Memorial Hospital at Craig

Get to Know
Maggie Anderson, PA-C
Maggie Anderson, Physician Assistant, joins The Memorial
Hospital Medical Clinic with a passion for connecting with
patients and serving their needs. Maggie grew up in a
suburb of Minneapolis, but discovered a love for small, rural
towns. She selected Craig as a place that she wanted to
live. With her Spanish speaking skills and her sharp eye for
diagnosing, she is a wonderful addition to our talented staff.
What was your childhood like? I was homeschooled, along
with my three brothers, and spent a lot of time with neighborhood
groups and homeschool co-ops. Some of my favorite childhood
memories were made during family vacations in our pop-up camper. We traveled all over the
nation, and it gave me my first experience with Colorado. We visited Estes Park and knew I
wanted to settle either near the mountains or the beach someday.
What attracted you to Craig and the area? I always thought I’d live in a big city. That
changed when I traveled to several outlying small towns for my clinical training while
completing my physician assistant studies in Wichita, Kansas. I really fell in love with the
friendly hometown feel of small towns, and thoroughly enjoyed getting to know patients as
if they were family and friends. Craig has that same feel. I visited a few weeks back and
was fortunate enough to find the perfect house. I am very excited to not only work in the
community, but also become a part of it.
Why TMH? I sought out The Memorial Hospital by writing and inquiring if they had an
opening. My boyfriend Jarod from PA school got a position in Vail this summer, and I knew
I wanted to be close to him, yet Vail is not my kind of town. We both know we want to settle
in a more rural place, like Craig. I was fortunate enough to get a call back for an interview
at TMH—and I am thrilled to join the competent staff. I will be delivering some urgent care
services, which is a great fit for me as I focused on ER care during my studies and I have a
passion for that. However, I missed forming long-term relationships with patients. Urgent
care and primary care are the perfect mix for me.
Why did you decide to become a Physician Assistant? Both of my parents are nurses
and all of my brothers are disabled so I was around healthcare a lot growing up. That made
me passionate about caring for disabled kids, and helping people in general. I considered
nursing but then shadowed a PA and knew that’s what I wanted to do. I graduated July 25
and passed my boards in August of this year.
How would your best friends describe you? They would say that I am energetic,
motivated and very driven, and that I enjoy long, deep conversations. They would comment
on my strong faith. I believe we are all here for a bigger purpose and that’s what drives my
compassion and empathy.
How did you become fluent in Spanish? I earned a bachelor’s in Spanish, and lived
in Guatemala to complete Spanish language studies there. I also worked in hospitals in
Ecuador and later worked as a Spanish medical interpreter. I look forward to putting my
Spanish to use with patients at TMH.
