May 1, 2012 Genesis Workshop The Dream I have a dream, an awesome dream. A dream given to me by God . Someday I will fly away like a bird. And prison doors will contain me no more. My brothers thought that I was worthless And everyone else followed suit. But, I know it isn’t true because... I was given a dream, an awesome dream. I know that I will become a great man That man that He created me to be. For He is the One who gave me this dream And the One who makes dreams come true. This song was composed by the talented Kriol translation team. Roger was checking the book of Genesis with the team when he encouraged them to be creative and compose a song based on the life of Joseph. Guinea Bissau Trip We just returned from a four-week activity packed month in Guinea Bissau where many dreams came true. It was really an awesome and fulfilling time. Though it was a short period of time, Roger was able to check the translation of the book of Mark for the Soninke people, hold a mini workshop presenting background information on the book of Genesis for 4 language groups, facilitate at a One Story workshop and check the translation of a section of the book of Genesis for the Kriol language. The Genesis workshop was a lot of fun for all. It was amazing to see how engaged the participants became as they learned about the life and times of the people of Genesis. A couple even re -enacted their wedding vows as an introduction to the teaching on covenant. The participants learned the Hebrew alphabet through song and tried to create words with Hebrew letter cards. The whole book has become more alive to them and the dream of seeing the Scriptures available in the heart language of these groups is slowly becoming a reality. Consultant Check of the Book of Mark Tony and Netti are Brazilian translators working with the Soninke language project. They have had a dream that the Soninke people receive the Word in their language and come to Christ. Toni had worked for many months preparing the text of the book of Mark in the Soninke language. The majority of the speakers of this language group are Muslim. This leads to unique challenges as the team tries to find the right words for the translation of the book of Mark. Even though the three Muslim translators do not openly admit how the scriptures have touched them we are convinced that they are secret believers. We are praying that God will touch the hearts of many of their people and that they will come to Him. One Story Workshop There are five young missionaries doing One Story projects in Guinea Bissau. Their dream has been to see a set of stories prepared for four different language groups. First they had to learn to speak the language but the languages that they have to learn are very difficult and the people are not very interested in God’s Word. Their task has been discouraging at times but, the dream is coming true! We are grateful to the Lord for the determination and hard work of Emma, Sarah, Derek, Betty and Ivan. Kriol Translation Check The three young Kriol translators are very poetic. They have a way with words that makes the translation sound new and exciting. It was a joy to work with them and check the translated chapters from the book of Genesis. Future Plans In Venezuela there are several nationals who are missionaries to the tribal groups in their own country. They have had a dream to give the translated Word to these people groups in their own language. This is now becoming a reality. They will first start with One Story projects. The initial training will take place May 12-24. Congratulations Elisa and Matt!! Another dream has wonderfully come true . On March 11 our daughter Elisa became engaged to Matthew Garza. Elisa met Matt at the Christian school where they both teach in San Antonio, Texas. The wedding will take place on the beach in Honduras on July 21. We are happy that several of Matt’s family and friends will be present. We are also very excited that Our Mexican son Meinardo, his wife Julie and their three small children will be with us. It will be quite some family reunion! We want to thank you our faithful supporters and friends who have made so many dream that come true through your giving and prayers.
