Some notes on OOBE – BY Thomas Campbell
A presentation by Thomas Campbell to the 9 day intensive OOBE seminar
organized by (Todd Acamesis) and given in Dublin, Ireland on Oct 18 2012 from
6pm- 9pm followed by 5 hours of Q&A2
(Extensively edited by the author to fill in details in order to make the outline
more coherent and understandable to the reader.)
This is an advanced class. There will be no Review of previous material. To
understand where assumptions come from, go to Google books or Youtube
(twcjr44) – I won’t repeat or do logical derivations in this presentation.
First: What is OOBE and what is it not?
OOBE is primarily a way to directly experience the LCS, not a direct path to
enlightenment.
It is not an essential or necessary part of evolving the quality of your
consciousness. However (OOBE) is a way to facilitate growth but not necessarily
the way…. I.e., OOBE is a viable path to facilitate positive growth If one
approaches it correctly (without fear, ego, belief, or expectation).
That is easy to say but difficult to do because we (almost everyone) tend to
approach everything with fear, ego, belief, and expectation – without noticing
that we are doing so.
To understand OOBE, one has to understand the context in which it exists. It is
not a process we do or a place we go, it is a personal, subjective, real experience.
1) Who are we? We are an individuated unit of consciousness (IUOC) playing
a total-immersion VR game wherein our avatars make choices and appear
to have physical bodies in physical space
2) What are we doing here? We are an IUOC with a mission to evolve the
quality of our consciousness through interaction with the set and with
others within this VR. We are here to experience, interact, and make
choices.
2
3) What is the point? As we evolve, the LCS evolves. This VR entropy
reduction trainer game we are in is part of the LCS’s strategy to evolve. We
are here to grow up and evolve ourselves along with the entire system.
4) How do we accomplish that? Stuff happens and we get to deal with it –
how we choose to deal with it causes us to evolve or de-evolve.
a. Simple but profound statement.
b. We tend to focus on the wrong end (manipulate and control the
“stuff happening”) rather than focus on “how we choose to deal with
it”. (no need to be stupid—should be aware of what is happening and
why but realize that trying to manipulate events and relationships to
suit your needs and wants (fear and ego ) is futile and frustrating ……
The only thing you have the power to change is yourself.
c. See each new challenge as an opportunity to evolve rather than
something that needs to be controlled.
5) Why a virtual PMR? The VR allows us to exercise our free will through
choice. The VR provides a context that gives evolutionary significance to
our free-will choices.
I want to talk about VR because the reason we can go OOB is because we are
consciousness experiencing within this Physical VR.
a. Imagine an IUOC without a VR (7 billion people in a chat room) – you
have the free will to communicate (or not) with any or all of them –
that is all.
i. You can know nothing of those you might communicate with
except what they tell you.
ii. The only person you really know is you and no one can do
anything to directly affect you – nor can you do anything that
directly affects anyone else – all feed-back is “verbal” or
“intellectual” but feed-back only exists if you choose to listen
and consider.
iii. You are an island -- you exist, alone, at the center of your
personal universe in a huge chat room of billions.
iv. You have arrived at Descartes understanding of existence: “I
think, therefore I am”. This is a perfect description of the
3
fundamental characteristic of an individuated unit of
consciousness – a generator of interactive experience - who is
aware in the void. This state represents the foundation of your
OOB Experience even though your OOBE takes place within a
VR with some interaction provided by the Larger
Consciousness System (LCS). Think of both dreams and OOBE
as an opportunity for some private tutoring from the LCS.
v. An IUOC without a VR has a small decision space and is driven
by circumstance and logic to be very self-focused which leads
to self-centered. Fear, arrogance, and ego flourish in such an
environment. That is why you need to limit yours before you
go there. Such an environment brings out or facilitates the
expression of (rather than hides) your fear, arrogance, and
ego. Only those who can significantly reduce their fear,
arrogance, and ego are able to be successful explorers of
NPMR. OOBE can be like looking behind the stage curtain. It
can be educational if it generates humility and understanding.
vi. Obviously, The LCS needs a better environment that will
generate more and better opportunities for an IUOC to evolve
– including inescapable feed-back.
b. Without the LCS taking an active part, being limited to the experience
within the largely unconstrained VRs (like the ones you experience in
dreams and OOBE) would make evolving toward love a slow process.
However, when the LCS uses these largely unconstrained
playgrounds to provide you with challenges, learning can accelerate.
In the dream and OOBE environment, you tend to interact honestly
at the being level and thus get all sorts of educational content tossed
at you to see what you choose to do with it. If your fear, ego, belief
and expectations are sufficiently small, exploring the Dream and OOB
realm can lead to excellent growth.
c. In PMR, as babies, we start out much like an IUOC without a VR – i.e.,
exploring the external data field and struggling to figure out how to
interpret the data so as to produce consistency within our
experience. Soon we learn there is a wealth of interconnectedness
and choice generated by the constraints …..also, a wealth of
4
feedback and interaction that challenges us to grow up. In other
words: All that physical interaction with various IUOCs and with the
environment generates a much larger decision space. It is the
constraints of the VR that generate a larger decision space for its
inhabitants. For example: Maze, card game. Discuss perception of
rules vs freedom.
d. Imagine the first biological cell – very choice limited, thus very
growth limited. One of the most useful things it could do was to split
in two and thus generate a larger collection of single cells with which
it could interact.
e. Imagine then a bunch of single independent cells, each self-focused
and out for itself. What can they do? (like bacteria)
f. Imagine groups of cooperating individual cells (multi-celled
organism) with more choices and lower entropy [single cells
cooperate (evolve) to become one larger more effective system or
being (the system becomes a being when it develops its own
unique decision space)]
g. Imagine cell specialization cooperating groups of cells [groups of
cells cooperate (evolve) to become one larger more effective being]
(like Jelly fish or human beings)
h. Imagine differentiation of species evolving to fill different niches
within the environment
i. Imagine cooperation of species (Biome – Ecology of cooperative
interdependence that supports all life in the biome) [groups of
species evolve together to become one larger more effective
ecosystem]
j. Imagine human beings. …do you see the trend? Do you see the
repetitive fractal nature of reality (a consciousness-evolution process
fractal? The individual players evolve the quality of their interaction
to the point that they cooperate with all the others to form a single
thing, a single unified system or being – to become one – something
bigger and lower-entropy than themselves.
So what do we make of this?
5
Are we to evolve together (become cooperative) with other species to
become/generate one larger more effective System or perhaps being? –
i.e., to become one with the critters and planet. And are we also, at the
same time, to evolve the quality of our consciousness to produce
(become) a more effective consciousness system? -- i.e., to become
one with the larger consciousness system/thing? Note: Becoming one
with a larger system does NOT imply giving up any individuality. It only
appears that way to some because they see reality and its evolutionary
possibilities through a lens of fear and ego. Cooperation does imply
constraints but these constraints produce a much more useful and
profitable experience for everyone – process, value and functionality are
optimized for individuals as well as the whole. Example:
warfare/armies…. Corporations….migration from the countryside to the
city (more opportunity in the city).
k. Does the lowering of entropy through cooperative grouping stop
here? Perhaps it does. Or, (Once we humans become one with each
other and with all living things on this plane) is the next challenge
Grouping together with other planets within our galaxy… then with
other galaxies within the physical universe to become one
universe….. then with other universes (other NPMR organizations
and reality frames)….All conjecture…all beyond our present
comprehension… and…all of absolutely no importance to us (idle
conjecture) until we humans on planet Earth take the next step.
l. What is this cooperative grouping together? It is moving away from
being self-focused to being other-focused – i.e., moving away from
fear, ego, belief and toward love
i. In human terminology, “other focused” is the defining
characteristic of love.
ii. It is not moving toward restriction, each “cell” (here the quote
marks refer to a larger, more general concept of cell – e.g.,
humans are a cell in Gaia) is a free agent within its own
decision space and that decision space increases (not
decreases) with cooperation. It does what it does because of
what it chooses to do, not because of what it is forced to do –
6
No being is ever forced to make any choice. It always has free
will to choose from choices that lie within its decision space -as it pleases. Unfortunately, most of us can only imagine a
freedom that is defined in terms of our fear and ego ….
Because we define ourselves and our relationships with others
in terms of our fear and ego.
You have a fear of being forced, coerced, or pressured because
force, coercion, and pressure (manipulation and imposed
outside requirements of some sort) is all you know. That is
how your reality functions if you do not interact within a
community of love. Fear erodes trust. Without trust,
cooperation is impossible; without cooperation, we all stand
alone in fear.
iii. When biological cells stop cooperating, stop working together
effectively, or are invaded from outside, or invade others, we
call it disease. When cells gets greedy, or begin building their
own little non-cooperative empires within the cooperative
body, and begin to consume more than they contribute, we
call it cancer. The same applies to “cells” the metaphor
6) What does it mean to go OOB – the body has nothing to do with it.
That belief generates all sorts of nonsense (rolling out, climbing ropes,
silver cords, walls that trap and doom us, the not coming back fear, Locale
1, etc. ( explain why we have a “Locale 1” experience?)
OOBE techniques are tools designed to focus intent – rituals that work because
of our limitations: i.e., fear, ego, belief, expectations and ignorance.
a. Exploring other reality frames is equivalent to developing an
awareness of other data streams outside of the PMR data stream
i. Connection by intent -- quality, - point consciousness.
b. Techniques are individual because fear and beliefs are individual.
Example “rolling out”
c. Differences between OOBE, Lucid dreams, Remote viewing
i. Approach -- expectations, beliefs, goals
7
ii. Locale I OBE and Remote Viewing both simply use intent to
collect data from the PMR historical database
iii. Other “Locales”, just like charkas, are metaphors for
information content and structure (relationships). [metaphor
doesn’t mean false or not real – nevertheless, that
relationship between a metaphor and what is real can easily
become confused (like it did with silver cords)…likewise, not
physical does not imply not real -- we are a little like
conscious Sims characters dreaming about playing WOW -claiming that the WOW characters are false and not real like
the SIMS characters are]
Metaphors are necessary for us to organize information into something
we can use and share. Metaphor is used to form our subjective
interpretation of the information we receive – it adds physical context
to the information we get from outside of PMR.
d. Interpretation of data – limitations in our ability to accurately
interpret data are created by fear, ego, beliefs, expectations.
Example: [We are OOB and A message from NPMR comes from “out
there” implying that: An OB experience is somehow dependent on
your virtual body – true – cold water test -- an assumption is made
that the physical reality is more fundamental than the OOB reality….
Not so! A <- -> B …. (thus, a limited understanding brings up the
concept as a Metaphor of a diver with air hose)…. but personal fear
and ignorance and cultural beliefs misinterpret that accurate data as
a metaphorical silver cord which quickly becomes a visual metaphor
and is “seen” from within NPMR (all metaphors concocted within
NPMR must be in terms of our physical senses). Metaphors are
rarely perfect.
e. Potential Sources of information one might receive while having an
OOBE
i. LCS (generally requires a low noise connection) – Purpose: A
teaching/learning tool: important information, tests, nudging
8
or mind/attitude expanding experiences (perhaps LCS chooses
to interface as a guide, or relative, or mentor, or religious
figure – a burning bush, a wall, a white stag, a bright white
light, or none of these)
ii. You (high noise connection) – fear, beliefs, expectations, ego
iii. Other beings (could be i. or ii. Above – or could be
independent actor)
f. The quality (value) of what you experience in an OBE is strongly
related to the quality of your intent to have the experience.
7) Is it real?
a. In the beginning, this question often reduces to: Is the source of the
information you receive during an OOBE internal or external to you?
b. Gather data over significant time. Exchange data with same NPMR
individuals over time. Be skeptical. Repeat experiments, gather lots
of data before judging.
c. Is there objective Proof?
i. That depends on who you are talking to. Remember, We are
talking about individual subjective experiences, not physical
objects. If it is not your personal experience it cannot be your
personal truth.
ii. It is nearly impossible to prove anything. All experience is
subjective and all corroboration is also personal and subjective.
One can always imagine enough uncertainty to eliminate proof
of almost any fact. (age, your mother, where you live, that you
are not angry, that you feel tired or hot or cold or love. When
Descartes wrestled with this concept of proof, his list of
provables was very short: “I am”)
iii. A scientist seeks only conclusive repeatable and consistent
evidence. “Proof” is a word used precisely in logic and math….
However, it is frequently used by lawyers, true believers, closeminded skeptics and other demagogs as a tool of ob-fus-cation,
but never by scientists of any type. Science and rationality
9
require no proof. They require good quality evidence!
Evidence vs proof: evidence accepts some measure of
uncertainty. In most cases, the scientific value of good quality
evidence is based on a subjective assessment of trust and on
statistical significance. We end up with: “The probability of my
conclusion being wrong is…1/x.”. If you can reduce the
uncertainty of possible error in your conclusion to less than I in
10,000 does that make it science -- ask PEAR Labs.
Most of us have had this experience: Someone aggressively
belittles your open-minded exploration into things not well
known…. and smugly declares that you have no scientific
credibility, and challenges you to either produce proof of your
claims or admit that your assertions are baseless. Of course, in
your eyes, his statement and hostile attitude marks him as a close
minded skeptic, ignorant and arrogant – an anti-science true
believer caught in a belief trap like any other fundamentalist – in
other words, an uninformed fool (which is, of course, the very
thing he takes you for).
Notice the symmetry. That symmetry is not accidental. Because
fear is the driver of belief based fundamentalism, we humans are
often guilty of whatever we vehemently accuse others of
doing/being.
A general truth: Any position driven by fear, ego, and belief will
leave you looking like an uninformed fool to those at the next
higher level of consciousness evolution. …..Thus, if you feel
arrogant and superior about being better informed and more
highly evolved than the uninformed closed-minded skeptic, your
smug arrogance will make you look like an uninformed fool to
those a level ahead of you in the consciousness quality game.
Finally, point this closed-minded skeptic towards the mounds of
high quality scientific evidence that has existed for many years.
PEAR labs and RV research are some of the easiest to find. Start
with Russell Targ and Hal Puthoffs papers (Stanford U Physics
10
dept) published in peer reviewed IEEE journals in the middle 7o’s.
Send them off to read some of Dean Radin’s books. {And that is
just the tip of the evidence iceberg.}
Then notice how they react…does their interest in discussing the
subject evaporate as they go into a true believers rant of material
reductionist catechisms while denying the existence of what they
refuse to consider or study. If so, let it go, as the old saying goes,
“you can’t squeeze blood or an intelligent discussion out of a
turnip”.
iv. Fact is: Within OOBE and Remote viewing experiments, there is
much conclusive repeatable and consistent evidence one can
access as well as develop for oneself and for others.
d. Sometimes there will be (can be) no evidence (outside of Locale 1).
Does assessing the evidence or lack thereof (which must always be
PMR related: Is it real = can it be measured in the PMR VR => PMR is
the only thing that is real) really matter or make sense in those
cases? Well…yes and no.
i. What is your experience’s value to you? is a better question,
more suited to our purpose of personal growth, than “is it
real” [i.e., outside data rather than inside data]. Recall that
inside data is often limited by our fear, ego, and belief. But
consider inside data that is unlimited by intellect, fear, ego,
and belief… is that much different than outside data? Once
you get rid of your fear, ego, and beliefs, your inside and
outside data become one.
ii. Is it useful to your evolution? That is the important question –
and that may take months or years to determine. Openminded skepticism is the rule to live by. Be open to all the
data but believe nothing – belief is counter-productive.
Instead assess the potential of the data to be useful to your
growth process.
8) Having trouble going OOB
a. Your Fear (triggered by LCS and/or by You)
11
i. Prevention scenarios: Paralysis, violent oscillations, electric
shock, loud noises , menacing voices/beings – all smoke and
mirrors – external fear tests and internal fear responses
ii. Fear of tricking yourself – You unintentionally assuming the role
of close-minded skeptic through a cultural belief. Example: I
cannot prove that it is real – just my imagination – I may be a
fool => click outs/quit.
b. Ego
i. Cool experience, bragging rights, carnival ride… or Any intent
other than learning, growing up and improving the quality of
one’s consciousness.
ii. Power: Gather interesting information on others
c. Beliefs
i. Out of BODY is body centered,
ii. Its dangerous – could die – not come back
iii. Monsters, negative beings
iv. It must be as described by others.
d. Expectations
i. It must be as described by others.
ii. I cannot do it, it just dosen’t work for me
iii. The OOB reality is objective just like this one and therefore,
what I experience is either right or wrong, true or false
OOBE is presented as a doing thing, something one does, while what is
actually important is a being thing, what one is. Don’t focus on
technique and experience while what you should be focusing on is
growing the quality of your consciousness.
9) Is it important, necessary or useful?
a. Not necessarily, though it can be
i. OOBE may be More suited to left brained explorers
ii. You should Have specific intents, goals and learning
explorations/experiments in mind
iii. Don’t take it or yourself too seriously
12
b. You cannot give credibility to everything you see or hear or take all at
face value. Sometimes you are being set up to learn something
useful that may be in the form of unpleasant feedback
i. Learn to read between the lines – frustration may be the
lesson
ii. Look for the lesson in everything – how can this experience
help me grow
c. OOBE may help you become detached and fearless and egoless if you
approach it as another learning modality, just like PMR and dreams.
10)
How do you make it more useful
a. Get rid of fear, ego, beliefs, expectations, needs, etc.
b. Be always skeptical
c. First, Use it to gather evidence of the realness of the experience.
That the data is coming from outside of you and not from your
imagination, but don’t rush the evidence collection process. Solid
evidence takes time to accumulate. Suspend your judgment until
you have gathered enough evidence to make a valid judgment.
d. See everything as a test and a challenge to learn – let go of the idea
of a cool carnival ride. Let go of Wow and Gee Whiz. Think of OOBE
as just another school house and realize that you will learn more if
you have good questions, good intent, and focus on learning things
that are important (i.e., growing up).
e. Look for ways to learn (grow your big picture understanding and the
quality of your consciousness) from every experience you have. If
you can do this, the LCS will see you as “ready” and the system will
begin in earnest to teach you.
