Pilot cities: Atlanta | Boston | Cincinnati | Central Ohio | Dallas | Houston | Milwaukee | Milltown | Pittsburgh | Twin Cities INTRODUCTION United Way LINC brings young professionals age 22 - 30 together, making their voices heard and enabling them to make a real difference impacting lives and creating lasting change in their local communities. We believe this generation has the ability to change the way we live and learn, advocate and volunteer, work and play. LINC connects this generation with real ways to make a hands-on difference, changing lives through helping kids succeed, strengthening families and building thriving communities Ten United Ways across the U.S. will launch local pilot programs this year to create a bestpractice model to be implemented nationally. Deloitte’s “Global Human Capital Trends” report of March 2014 states “Millennials in particular are looking for work that inspires passion and allows them to fulfill their professional, personal, and social goals.” With your participation in the LINC pilot program, we will be pioneers in a promising public/private partnership model that leverages these young leaders’ professional and charitable passions. What we heard from millennial focus groups… • The concept of a group tailored for 22-30 years with a focus on volunteerism and professional and personal development was supported and encouraged. • Overwhelmingly this group cares most about improving education and helping kids succeed in school, followed by basic needs initiatives. • Volunteering is the preferred way to interact followed by, in order, professional and personal development, networking and social events. • Volunteerism and engagement comes first before considering to give. • Knowing their impact, seeing change and learning about their giving ROI is a MUST. • $250 is a reasonable and likely gift to United Way given the opportunity for engagement first. LINC will focus on fulfilling volunteer and professional developmental opportunities under each pillar of the program: lead, impact, network, change. LEAD: Opportunities to lead could include spearheading a fundraising effort through peer-to-peer fundraising or crowdfunding, participating in board training or designing and executing a community wide volunteer event for peers. IMPACT: Members will be invited to customized volunteer events around various causes, like: readying kids for kindergarten, graduating college and career ready teens, developing healthy moms and healthy babies, childhood obesity prevention, access to healthcare, or job skills training. NETWORK: LINC members will connect with like minded peers via activities and events as well as leaders and influencers in the corporate, entrepreneurial and nonprofit sectors. CHANGE: Education and exposure to social issues is crucial to cultivating these future thought leaders and change agents. LINC’s speakers and tours series will provide unique insight and opportunities to connect with North Texas community leaders, hear from social experts and see where impact happens. Taking a bus tour of innovative educational nonprofits, getting a hardhat tour of the new Parkland Hospital or hearing a personal story of an adult who learned to read at age 50 are all examples of experiencing change first-hand. Individuals will have the opportunity to try out the group before committing to a membership. MODEL unitedwaydallas | @unitedwaydallas 1800 N.
