Baseline Data
Analysis of school wide reading data from 2016 based on overall teacher judgements in relation to the National
Standards for reading showed that 70% - 78/111 (2015 - 72% - 65/90, 2014 - 76% 70/92) of our learners,
including 59% 19/32 (2015 - 64% 18/28, 2014 - 65% 24/37) Maori, 100% 4/4(2015 - 100% 3/3 2014 - 100%
2/2) Asian 100% 2/2 Pasifika and 100% 3/3 MELAA are reading At or Above the expected level. Analysis of Year
1 – 3 data identified a group of 23 learners working below with 5 of these being well below the National Standard
for reading after 1 to 3 years. 11 children are identified as Māori. This group also contains 10 girls and 13 boys.
Analysis of Year 4 & 5 data identified a group of 9 learners working below with 2 of these being well below the
National Standard for reading. 2 children are identified as Māori. This group also contains 4 girls and 5 boys.

Strategic Plan Goal 1
To ensure every child has access to engaging and balanced programmes of learning that promote success and
celebrate progress.
a. Improve progress and achievement in learning for all children, particularly Māori, Pasifika and children with
special education needs.

2017 Targets
The group of 14 (7 girls, 7 boys, including 8 Maori) learners reading below or well below the National Standard
for Reading after one year will achieve at or above the National Standard after two years
The group of 4 (1 girl, 3 boys, including 2 Maori) learners reading below or well below the National Standard
for Reading after two years will achieve at or above the National Standard after three years
The group of 5 (2 girls, 3 boys, including 1 Maori)learners reading below the National Standard for Reading after three
years will achieve at or above the National Standard at the end of Year 4
The group of 3 (2 girls, 1 boy, including 1 Maori) learners reading below or well below the National Standard for Reading
at the end Year 4 will achieve at or above the National Standard at the end of Year 5
The group of 6 (2 girls, 4 boys, including 1 Maori) learners reading below the National Standard for Reading at the end
Year 5 will achieve at or above the National Standard at the end of Year 6
