Electronics Recycling Please follow these guidelines to ensure collection. Please place containers at the curb by 6:00 a.m. • Three (3) feet apart with lids opening toward street • At least three (3) feet from cars, trees, mailboxes • Wheels as close to the curb as possible • Please remove containers as soon as possible after collection Computers, monitors and TVs CANNOT be disposed of in the garbage or at disposal sites such as landfills, transfer stations and incinerators. Do not overstuff your carts Glass Recycling All materials must fall freely into the truck CURBSIDE RECYCLING GUIDE Recycling is picked up every other week. We recommend that you wait until the cart is full to bring it to the curb. Mix these items together in your recycling cart. INCLUDE KEEP OUT Newspapers, Magazines, Catalogs Includes ads, inserts, phone books, and paperbacks. No rubber bands or plastic bags. Scrap and shredded paper Junk mail, envelopes, oe paper, greeting cards, paper egg cartons, paper tubes, wrapping paper, and cereal boxes. Put shredded paper in paper bags. No bath tissue, paper towels, freezer boxes, coffee cups or paper coated with food, wax, foil or plastic. Cardboard Flatten cardboard boxes. No wax-coated cardboard or food residue. Milk cartons Drink boxes Rinse clean. No plastic straws. Plastic bottles All plastic bottles. No plastic lids, trays, bags, take-out boxes, or motor oil, pesticide or herbicide containers. Plastic tubs Yogurt-type containers (6 oz. or larger), rigid plant pots (4 in. or larger), and buckets (5 gal. or smaller). No plastic lids, trays, bags, take-out boxes, or motor oil, pesticide or herbicide containers. Bring glass bottles and jars to a Columbia County transfer station for recycling. The Household Hazardous Waste Program accepts nearly all household items that contain one or more of the following key words on the label: BACKYARD COMPOSTING TIPS • Warning • Caution • Poison • Dangerous • Toxic • Flammable • Combustible • Ignitable • Corrosive • Oxidizer Aluminum foil Crumple into loosely packed balls. No food residue. By setting up a backyard compost pile, you can turn your food and yard waste into a nutrient rich soil amendment to help grow a healthy garden. Finished compost helps to prevent erosion, retain water and adds nutrients to the soil. Rinse food cans. Put metal lids inside cans and crimp closed. No plastic caps. Do not or remove nozzles. Scrap metal Smaller than 30 inches in any direction and less than 30 lbs. No plastic,wood, or other non-metal attachments. Glass bottles and jars Glass is not collected at the curb. Bring to a Columbia County transfer station for recycling. • Select compost bin or area to create a compost pile. Compost bins can be purchased or built using scrap wood. • Add fruit and vegetable scraps, coffee grounds, leaves, sticks, brush and yard trimmings to your compost bin or pile, making sure larger pieces are chopped or shredded. • Stir the contents occasionally, ensuring proper airflow. • Your food scraps and plant trimmings will become nutrient rich compost in three to six weeks.
