The reviews:
Our class went to Wheelock College. It was
pretty awesome with all the technology they had on
the walls. The outside of the college looked like an
old college, but when you went on the inside it was a
whole different story. The auditorium was huge.
Another thing that we observed is that you can call
all your professors by their first names. We thought
that was pretty cool because in middle school it’s
considered disrespectful.
We learned that you can cross-transfer. This
means that if the college you attend in now doesn’t
have the class you mean to finish that semester you
can cross transfer to one of the following colleges:
Wheelock College, Simmons College, Wentworth
Institute of Technology, Massachusetts College Art
and Design, and Massachusetts School of
Pharmacy. For example, if you want to do something
page 1
that involves art and fashion, but
you attend Wheelock and they don't
have a fashion design class you can
take a class in Massachusetts
college
of art and designs.
----------------We experienced that Wheelock
College is a very big college. It is a
very big place. There are 5 colleges
surrounding Wheelock College. The
colleges are Simmons College,
Wentworth Institute Of Technology,
Mass Art And Design, Mass School
Of Pharmacy, and the Wheelock
College.
(We took a class on
entrepreneurship). A skill set we
have to become an entrepreneur
are we are risk-takers. We like to
take risks and try new things. We
are not afraid to try and invent or
create a business. A second skill set
we have is problem-solver. If a
problem comes up we are quick to
solve it. We can work out problems
and straighten out arguments very
well.
----------Wheelock college’s mascot is a
wildcat. The school colors are
yellow and blue .There are five
colleges in the same vicinity they
are Wheelock college,Simmons
college,Wentworth Institute of
Technology,Mass Art and design
and Mass School of Pharmacy. If a
student gets in one of the college
they can attend another college
there.
On campus the students greet
each other when they see them.
Inside the building it was quiet.
Students were allowed to call their
professors by their first name. In
each class there are about 20
students. Inside there was a cafe
where students do homework or
hang out when there is no class.
For example, people were doing
their work and no one was
screaming. Also we learned that
there are five colleges in the same
vicinity. The five colleges in the
same vicinity are Wheelock,
Simmons, Wentworth Institute of
Technology, Mass Art and design,
and Mass School of pharmacy.
Students who attend 1 of the
colleges can cross register. Crossregistration in United States higher
education is a system allowing
students at one university, college,
or faculty within a university to take
individual courses for credit at another
institution or faculty, typically in the
same region. So the good part about
this is that you can still get credit from
the school. The other thing that we saw
on the campus was that everyone was
respectful and generous to each other.
For example, when people pass or walk
by people would had said “hi good
morning,” even though they don’t know
each other. When we were on the
campus we learned about being a
entrepreneur.
Some skill sets or abilities that will
help you become an entrepreneur are
that you have to be inquirers, risktakers, open-minded, and thinkers.
These skill sets will very helpful. Also
many entrepreneur should have these
skill sets. All of these skills require being
a hard-worker.

“Eating in Class”
(Students) can’t do well in school if
they are hungry. They won’t be able to
focus on their work and tests on an
empty stomach, and this might affect
their grades. Allowing students to eat in
class will solve this problem.
Breakfast is the most important meal
of the day. It gives you energy in the
morning so that you can have a great
start for your day. After many hours of
sleep your body needs energy. Your
brain cannot function without glucose,
leading to lack of concentration in class.
Eating breakfast can help you add
glucose, which basically means adding
energy. Without energy you’ll feel tired
and exhausted.
There are multiple reasons why
(students) need to eat in class. They
may have been late to school and didn’t
have time to eat breakfast at home or in
the cafeteria. They may also have
activities in the morning that leave little
time for breakfast or they just get hungry in the
middle of the day and not be able to concentrate.
If teachers let them eat snacks that don’t leave a
mess, there would be no problems. Students won’t
be hungry and they can clean up when they’re done
eating. The teachers won’t have to do anything. If
students could eat in class they won’t have to worry
about choosing between getting to school on time or
eating a good breakfast.
Ms. Leo’s Tues./Fri. advisory
“Humanities Party”
On April 6, 2016 Mr. Damian’s class had a huge
party. We were celebrating our hard work on the
Maniac Magee project. The schedule was well
planned by Mr. Damian, but we didn’t have time so
we had to cut some things out. After we finished the
food we elected the projects that we thought were
really good. At the end of the day all our hard work
wasn’t wasted.
Everyone worked really hard on the Maniac
Magee project. We worked so hard on that we
decided to have a party. The project was about a
book called Maniac Magee. We had to either create
a four to six frame cartoon strip that shows one of
Maniac’s amazing feats, act out a television news
report, create a diorama, create a newspaper, or
create a game. Many people created a game and a
television news report and both were great. All these
hard work paid off well.
The schedule was well planned out by Mr.
Damian. We started talking about the party about a
week before the actual party. Between those days
we would always have a 10 minutes talk about if
we’re actually going bring the food. At the end of the
2 blocks of the party everyone got to share their
projects except for the people who created a
diorama, because we ran out of time. We got to eat
all the food that people brought in including, oreo ice
cream cake, spaghetti, cake, carrots, wings, and
some snacks. We all got to eat the foods and
present our projects because of the well planned
schedule.
After we finished the food we voted on which
people’s project we thought were really good. Mr.
Damian gave us a sheet of paper with the arts
criterion because that’s what Mr. Damian would be
grading our projects by. Criterion A: Knowing and
understanding is a criterion where your project
shows excellent awareness of the art form studied.
Criterion B: Developing skills is a criterion where you
demonstrate excellent skills and techniques to create
your artwork. Criterion C: Thinking creatively is a
criterion where you identify excellent exploration of
ideas. Criterion D: Responding is a criterion where
you identify excellent connections between your
knowledge of the book and your artwork.
Mr. Damian gave us a sheet that only shows
criterion A and D and then there were also 2 WOW
awards. The next day the people who was elected
the most in one of the awards got a prize, a prize
invented by Mr. Damian called, “Mr. Damian’s Fun
Time Writing Pencils.” IB Awards were given for an
page 2
outstanding stop-motion animation
of “Cobble’s Knot” and for Terrance
Woolfork and Anthony Chen’s live
talk show performance. Deqa Abdi,
Emily Mo and Jasper Grant were
awarded WOW awards for their
respective news report videos. A
special commendation from Mr.
Damian for the video projects;
students came in early, sacrificed
lunches and made numerous edits
to ensure successful outcomes.
If you want to have a party. Then
work hard on your next project and if
you really worked hard on it then
perhaps you’ll earn a party. If you do
get one, to make it a great party.
You’ll want to plan the party extra
early and bring lots and lots of food.

“Deadpool”
Deadpool. What do I really know
about this guy besides the fact that
he can’t die? Deadpool also known
as Wade Wilson grew up with
abusive parents as a kid. As a
teenager he ran away, eventually he
started training to be an assassin
and worked as a mercenary. After
he was diagnosed with cancer he
decided to let the government
experiment on him as part of the
“Weapon X” mutant weaponization
project, where Wolverine got his
Adamantium skeleton. During the
painful testing Deadpool gained
healing abilities that cured his
cancer that were similar to
wolverine's powers. The pain was
so intense that it scarred his face
which is why he has a full body
costume including a mask. When he
was being experimented on, a group
of people began a Deadpool. Wade
eventually escaped after a fire
burned down the building. But he
wasn’t the only one who escaped
the person who experimented on
him, Dr. Killebrew and his assistant
Ajax both escaped. Deadpool was
bound to kill them both. Later in his
life Deadpool became a fighter and
assassin for a lot of people in the
marvel comic universe. This ends
our story about Deadpool.

“Interesting Movies”
Recently, a lot of new movies have
come out in theatres. Zootopia,
Deadpool, Miracles from Heaven,
San Andreas, and London has
Fallen are some examples. Many
people may have already seen some of
these movies, but those movies are
quite entertaining and interesting in
ways that make them very popular. If
you have any free time, you should go
and watch them.
Mr. Damian’s advisory
“The superhero civil war”
I know what you’re thinking, why are
superheroes trying to kill each other?
Well it all started when some new
recruits got their own tv show about how
they stop the “baddies”. They thought it
was all a game.
Well one day they were trying to stop
a villain and then they threw him into a
school bus. The villain said to them
you’re not used to real villains. You´re
not ready for the big boys. Then after
that he exploded. Killing over 300
people. Everyone was devastated.
After that Tony Stark (Iron Man) went
to a funeral and a lady blamed him for
this and then she spit in his face. Then
human torch was trying to enjoy a night
out, then someone went up to him and
said baby killer. He tried to explain to
them that he had nothing to do with it
but then, the guy hit him in the head with
a bottle knocking him out.
Then the government took the
matters into their own hands. So they
made a law where all superheroes have
to reveal their identity and then they’ll
work for shield as a employee and get
paid. Then spider man tells them that
this is a terrible idea, he says “If
everyone knows who are identity is then
what’s stopping them from attacking our
family.”
There were protesters demanding
that the bill gets passed now. So mr.
fantastic, Iron Man, and Yellowjacket tell
the president that they will handle
Captain America. The bill gets passed,
and superheroes identities are being
revealed and the people are happy that
they can trust their superheroes again.
Iron Man sits in his tower hoping he had
done the right thing. While shield arrests
any superheroes who refuse to sign up.
Captain America is building a rebellion
there using their powers to rescue
captured superheroes.
Captain America and Iron can’t agree
and both think they’re right. So Iron Man
calls a press conference and invites
Spider Man.
Spider Man is well-known in the
superhero community but his identity
has been a closely guarded secret. Until
he reveals that he is Peter Parker by
taking off his mask off on stage to show Steve
Rogers (Captain America) that it’s okay. But Cap
isn’t convinced. So he calls the secret Avengers,
they go out to stop crimes wherever they can find
them. While Iron Man has a plan to put an end to
this. So he put on a fake panic signal that said a
chemical factory was about to burn down.
When they get there Iron Man doesn’t want to
fight he just offers Captain America and his team to
just come with him to the shield helicarrier. But then
spider man jumps in and says “this is crazy you
shouldn’t be fighting each other you should be
fighting the bad guys”.
Mr. Damian’s advisory
“Card Games”
Hello there, it is your Duelist Juncheng, and your
Hero Christopher, and it is the card game argument
to end all card game arguments about card games.
Yu-Gi-Oh versus Hearthstone. Sorry for all you
Magic: The Gathering and Pokémon fans out there,
but this is about Yu-Gi-Oh and Hearthstone. Both of
us will assess the points of these two popular card
games. Juncheng will defend Yu-Gi-Oh, and
Christopher will defend Hearthstone. The criteria for
these two card games are:
 cards(i.e. What the cards are worth; how
good they are)
 strategy(i.e. Deck archetypes, or what kind
of decks)
 content(what the game is about, and what it
has to offer)
 Overall popularity
These are the following criteria for how we shall
write a paragraph against each card game. First up
is Yu-Gi-Oh, and next is Hearthstone.
Yu-Gi-Oh the trading card game is a popular card
all over the world. Yu-Gi-Oh was named the top
selling trading card game in the world by Guinness
World Records on July 7, 2009. The basics of the
game is to create a balanced deck of a random
deck. If you’re too lazy to set up a deck, you can buy
a starter deck. A starter can be better than a random
deck, but might be more confusing to use. The duels
that you have are based on how you play your deck
or if you’re lucky enough draw the cards that will end
the game in your favor. It might be an annoyance to
get the cards, but once you get it, it would be a fun
game for you (the students who play or want to
play).
For those who don’t know, there are 7 different
card types: noneffect monsters (like the name, has
no effect), effect monsters (has an effect to use
depending on what effect is on the card), trap cards
(or basically trigger cards used to counter
something, such as a monster attack), spell cards
(cards that have an effect, it can be many effects on
it or different effect on it such as destroy all cards on
the field), fusion monsters (a special monster card
that is not in your deck but is in your extra deck, it
needs a fusion of specific monsters to summon and
a card that allows it to fusion), synchro monsters
(also in the extra deck, but doesn’t need a card to
page 4
summon and the monsters needed
to summon are on the synchro
card’s effect slot), XYZ cards (they
are my favorite [my opinion], but
their stars are ranks unlike other
monsters, and needs the monsters
to be the same level to summon),
and finally, the most overpowered
card type in Yu-Gi-Oh (again my
opinion) pendulum cards (they are
counted as monster and spell cards,
they have a pendulum scale which
is the blue and red crystal-like
shapes, they allow the player to
summon cards with levels between
the numbers under the scales. If you
think Yu-Gi-Oh is confusing [which
Chris keeps saying] it really isn’t if
you understand the whole concept
of the game.
Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft
is a very popular card game based
on characters from the World of
Warcraft series. Released in early
2014 by one of the biggest names in
gaming, Blizzard Entertainment,
Hearthstone is a game of simplicity,
but it is addictively fun.
The basics of the game is to
draw cards, and play minions and
spells to battle your opponents
minions and spells. In the game
there are expansion packs, such as
Classic packs, Goblin vs Gnomes,
The Grand Tournament, or the one
yet to be released, Whispers of the
Old Gods. These packs award you 5
cards of different rarities: Common,
Rare, Epic, and Legendary. Basic
cards can be crafted, only earned.
The decks of Hearthstone are
important to the game. Making
decks is one of the hardest, but also
one of the most fun parts of the
game. There is an entire array of
decks. Face Hunter, for example is
an aggro deck specifically designed
to beat your opponent as fast as
possible. Tempo Mage, another
popular deck, is designed to keep
up with what your opponent plays,
and overpower them that way. And
Mill rogue is made so that your
opponent draws their entire deck,
and runs out of cards to play.
Hearthstone is sometimes a
game of chance, because what you
draw is entirely random, so what
you draw could be entirely useless
that turn, or extremely useful.
Hearthstone has many mechanics
to it: deathrattle(triggers upon a
minion’s death), battlecry(when a
minion is played), etc. Hearthstone
has 4 main modes, Play mode, Solo
Adventures, Arena, and Tavern
Brawl. Play mode has two versions,
casual and ranked. Casual is at the
cost of nothing, just your dignity.
Ranked lets you win something at the
end of each month. Solo Adventures are
boss battles against the A.I. in
adventures like Blackrock Mountain,
Curse of Naxxramas, or the newest one,
League of Explorers. These adventures
all give you new cards to experiment
and mess with.
Arena is when you make a deck from
random cards and try to get up to 12
wins, which rewards you with the Arena
cost refund, and packs, and dust to craft
cards. Three losses in arena, however,
and your Arena run ends. Tavern Brawl
has a set of new rules each week, like
only spells one week, or make your own
deck of dragons another week.
All these modes have different ways
to play, all of them fun! If you want a
simplistic, yet very fun and addicting
game, choose Hearthstone! You won’t
regret it.

“NFL”
The National Football League (NFL)
is a professional American football
league consisting of 32 teams, divided
equally between the National Football
Conference (NFC) and the American
Football Conference (AFC). The NFL is
one of the four major professional sports
leagues in North America, and the
highest professional level of American
football in the world.
The NFL’s 17-week regular season
runs from the week after Labor Day to
the week after Christmas, with each
team playing 16 games and having one
bye week. Following the conclusion of
the regular season, six teams from each
conference (four division winners and
two wild card teams) advance to the
playoffs, a single-elimination tournament
culminating in the Super Bowl, played
between the champions of the NFC and
AFC.
The NFL was formed in 1920 as the
American Professional Football
Association (APFA) before renaming
itself the National Football League for
the 1922 season. The NFL agreed to
merge with the American Football
League (AFL) in 1966, and the first
Super Bowl was held at the end of that
season; the merger was completed in
1970.
Today, the NFL has the highest
average attendance (67,591) of any
professional sports league in the world
and is the most popular sports league in
the United States. The Super Bowl is
among the biggest club sporting events
in the world and individual Super Bowl games
account for many of the most watched television
programs in American history, all occupying the
Nielsen's Top 5 tally of the all-time most watched
U.S. television broadcasts by 2015. The NFL's
executive officer is the commissioner, who has
broad authority in governing the league.
Mr. Damian’s Advisory
Editorials:
Dear school board,
I recently heard that half of the school board
wants to ban the book Maniac Magee. The other half
of the school board wants to nominate the book for
the Young Adult Book award. I want to say that you
guys should nominate the book for the award
instead of banning the book. So, in the book there
are some racist parts, but Maniac Magee is a good
book, I'm here to tell you why you should nominate
the book for book of the year.
Don’t judge the people you meet even if they are
different from you. In the book Maniac Magee,
Maniac meets Amanda beale and her family
unofficially adopts Maniac. On pg 39 it says “Maniac
Magee finally had an address.” Some of the board
members are probably like “So what?”….the thing is
that the Beale’s are black and Maniac is white. The
book can be racist at times, but a black family
helping out a white kid during segregation taught us
that you don’t always have to obey unfair rules.
People you meet can be important to you even if
they are different from you.
No matter what race you are, another race can
help you. In the Maniac Magee there was a part
where someone wrote in chalk, on the Beale’s house
“FISHBELLY GO HOME.” In the book Mars Bars
helps out Piper and Russell McNab at the P&W
trolley terminal. On pg. 160 it says “ What happen”
Mars bar snorted “What happen was, I went out and
rescued the dumb fish. Like to get myself kilt.” Most
people in the school board are probably like “So
what?” The thing is that Mars bars is black and Piper
and Russell are white. Back then you would never
see/rarely see black’s helping out white’s or white’s
helping out black’s, but in this part it happened, I
know the book can be racist at times, but in this part
is wasn't.
There are racist parts in the book like having
FISHBELLY GO HOME written on the beals house,
but Mars bars helping out the McNabs brother
taughtb us that another person can help you even if
there a different race from you.
Any book is a good book, so don't judge a book
by its cover. In Maniac Magee a guy says things like
“You pick up your gear and move on now” or “Back
to your own kind.” Mars bars goes to check up on
Maniac and tells him to come home, but he refuses,
he gives in when Amanda comes to get him. On pg
165-166 it says “You are coming home with me…” I
know there’s racist parts in the book like the old man
saying go back to your own race and etc, then
there's parts that are not racist like Mars bars/
page 5
Amanda caring for Maniac, like
checking up on him, making sure he
goes home. No matter what the
book is, don’t judge the book.
In conclusion this is why Maniac
Magee should be nominated for the
Young Adult book award. The book
can be racist in some parts, but kids
need to know what happened back
then even if it was bad. You could
also have a ton of discussions with
the book. This is why the book
Maniac magee should be nominated
for an the Young Book Award
instead of the book being banned.
Mr. Damian’s advisory
“Free time”
School is long, this is why I
would like to suggest that we should
have free time. Like in humanities or
our last class, maybe we can get
time to do our homework, use
computers (free time), even go
outside or maybe we can earn a
field trip to somewhere. If we
behave, we could have even win
prizes. If we do this, all the students
would be happy and want to still go
to school instead of staying at home
sleeping or playing games.
Teachers are probably going be
like “Why should teachers reward
kids with bad behavior?” I’m not
trying to support the idea that
teachers should give kids that don’t
behave free time, what I’m trying to
say is that, you could reward kids
that behave and punish students
who misbehave.
This helps the school because
students would enjoy the school, it
might even improve their learning.
Which might improve us in the BPS
raking.
If teachers let students go
outside, we would want to go to that
class more. Say if we could go
outside every week if we finish our
work or if we could earn field trips. I
mean like that, the teachers take
time out of class and bring us to
places like Tea-Do or CVS or other
places as going to other fun places,
this will make the class engage
more in class, that would result in
our class getting better grades. If
the teachers treat us like that, every
student will want to come here and
want to learn here because let’s
face it, doesn’t every (student) in
here want to have fun in their life? If
yes, please bring us to those places
and (it would) be very nice (for) the
students by bringing us to places.

The 7th grade students have been
working super hard on scale factor lab.
Each student had to create or find a
simple cartoon character and then recreate the picture on a 12"x18" sheet of
paper. I have seen some of the students
work already and they look wonderful!
If you have an opportunity please come
by after 12:20 pm to vote on the best
scale factor picture. The best drawings
and students will be recognized in the
JQUS newsletter next month!

came up with a plan, each took a big
chunk of work to do, and are charging
forward. Great resilience in the face of
a challenge. Great turnaround in effort
and focus.
