About Sochi
Sochi is the most well-known resort inside Russia and is also well-known abroad. Sochi possesses the unique
combination of nature resources and developed resort infrastructure, therefore it can satisfy various tourists' demands.
Its mild subtropical climate, combination of icy mountains and warm sea allow to relax in Sochi in any season, though
summer is certainly the best tourist season, when you can swim in the warm Black Sea and sunbathe in the gentle sun
– the summer season lasts from May till October.
Geographical Position and General Information
Sochi is situated in the Western part of the Greater Caucasus; a large part of the territory is occupied by mountains
and foothills. Sochi is the longest city in Europe, it stretches along the Black Sea coast for 145 km. Sochi comprises
four districts: Adlersky, Khostinsky, Central and Lazarevsky. Sochi is in the same time zone as Moscow. The
President's residence and some of the highest-level meetings held here cultivated an image of Sochi as the Summer
Capital of Russia.
Climate
The climate in Sochi is very unique: this is the most northern subtropical area in the world. Sochi in summer is a
beautiful sea resort; in winter you can enjoy the charm of holidays in the mountains. The average air temperature on the
coast in April-November is about +18 degrees; the hottest months are July and August. The swimming season lasts
through to the end of October, sometimes till mid November, the sea is at its warmest in July and August, when the
seawater reaches up to +26 degrees. Usually we have 200 sunny days per year. You may swim in the sea here from
April till October, and go skiing from October till May.
Nature
The unusual exotic nature is due to the unique climate in Sochi. The subtropical vegetation is luxuriant: magnolias,
eucalyptuses, palm trees, oleanders, rhododendrons, azaleas, yuccas and other plants, which you can‟t see in the
streets of other Russian cities. Sochi is the only area in Russia where there are the northernmost tea plantations in the
world; where the citrus plants, such as tangerines, lemons and feihoa ripen; where boxwood and other exotic plants
grow. Sochi is one of the rare sites on the globe where a holiday by the sea goes hand in hand with a rest in the
mountains; where the Matsesta curative waters are at your disposal. The yew-and boxwood grove in Khosta is a unique
remnant of wild pre ice-age flora. It forms part of the State National Park.
Infrastructure
Nowadays Sochi is a modern resort. Over 250 accommodation facilities – sanatoriums, boarding houses, hotels, tourist
camps – provide lodging for thousands of guests. Sochi has a developed resort infrastructure, where a wide range of
activities are available: fascinating excursions, concert halls, theatres, museums, botanical gardens and aqua parks,
casinos, numerous cafes and restaurants offering a variety of cuisines, situated everywhere, most in open air – in the
parks and on the embankment.
Entertainment
Concert and theatre life in the summer months is rich and varied, which could be the envy of any capital city. Many of
the famous theatre troupes and actors, singer-stars and performers tour through Sochi. If you come to Sochi in the
second half of May you shouldn‟t miss the imposing beer show: the annual international “Beer” exhibition and the
traditional “The Sea of Beer” festival. If you visit Sochi in the beginning of June you may attend the annual famous
“Kinotavr” cinema festival. In October there is the attractive “Velvet Seasons in Sochi” fashion festival.
You„ll never get bored in Sochi in any season. Whenever you come to Sochi you will enjoy the warm hospitality of Sochi
resort!
The city is full of interesting sites:
• Botanical garden “Dendrarium”
• “Riviera” park
• “Friendship Tree” Garden-museum

• “Festivalny” Concert Hall
• Memorial house of Barsova
• “Mangeley” Art Gallery
• Mikhail- Arhangel Cathedral
The Population of Sochi is more then 400.000 inhabitants and consists of more than 100 nationalities. Annually 3
million tourists come here to get medical treatment and for leisure.
Do you think it's possible to make a trip round the world while having a rest in Sochi ... in two
hours? Of course, it is! And you won't need an ocean liner, high-speed airplane or passport. To make
it you just need a camera. Your trip round the world will take place in the park “Dendrarium” which is
situated on both sides of Kurortny Prospect. Even those people, who have already travelled inside out
and seen such places as Park Tuileries in Paris, Hyde Park in London and Central Park in New York,
are charmed by a “Dendrarium”. And all the aforementioned parks can‟t be compared with the
“Dendrarium” in Sochi which is a piece of paradise, the best place on Earth!
In the “Dendrarium” more than 1,700 species of plants and bushes from all the continents of the
world are collected over an area of a bit more than 20 hectares. Annually this park is visited by more
than 1.500.000 people.
“Dendrarium” is a wonderful monument to landscape art. It was founded at the end of the 19th
century by a famous Russian journalist Sergei Khudekov. His parents were petty-landed gentry from
Razan province. The editor bought 50 tithes on the slope of mount Vereshchaginskaya not far from the
centre of Sochi and founded a new park. The dacha which was built in the centre of the park was
named in honour of his wife.
Generally in 1892 formation of the park was finished and now this year is considered to be the
year of the “Dendrarium's” foundation.
The name “Dendrarium” takes its origins from a Greek word “Dendron - Tree”, and means
“Collection of Trees”. The collection of the park in Sochi is not only huge but also unique. At the end of
the 19th century a famous gardener Frantz Lampau was engaged into the park foundation on Sergei
Khudekov‟s initiative.
The founders, while thinking about the core idea of the park formation, tried to bring into unison
the elements of an Italian terraced garden and an English landscape park. Entire plant zones were
created – Mediterranean, Chinese, Australian, Caucasian, Himalayan, Japanese, Mexican.
“Dendrarium” is a park of continuous blossoming. One can be dazzled seeing so many exotic
plants: Lebanese cedar and Algerian oak with uneven cork rind (bark), Japanese beresklet and
Mexican agave, Californian palm аnd Australian eucalyptus growing as if at home.
From January till the beginning spring the flower-beds of the park are decorated by local flowers,
Japanese quince-trees, acacia, honeysuckle, guelder rose and many others. The guests‟
astonishment knows no bounds when in the middle of winter on New Years Eve‟s night one can see
scarlet fires of picarantus and tender rose petals of asmantus peeping out through the snow.
In spring and at the beginning of summer the park is covered by flowers and fresh verdure.
Hydrangeas and pomegranate trees astonish almost everyone by their splendour. Here one can find a
unique collection of pines - 80 of 120 that grow worldwide, more than 60 species of oaks including
cork-oak, and more than 20 species of cypresses.
“Dendrarium” is not only a collection of exotic trees and bushes, but also a varying architectural
ensemble where plants play first fiddle. Of course not a single park can exist without architectural
compositions. Being aware of it the creator of the park Sergei Khudekov has started thinking of not
only delivering rare trees and bushes, but also of decorating the park with decorative pavilions,
fountains and sculptures. And everything was done thoroughly.
Now 17 units in “Dendrarium” are included into the catalogue of significant architectural and townplanning monuments for the whole of the Russian Federation and this is a rare case for our country.
The main entrance is adorned with an elegant semi-circular building - a symbol of "Dendrarium".
The park is divided into upper and lower parts. One of the main places worth seeing in the park is
"Nadezhda" dacha, whose staircases are decorated with sculptures and decorative vases. There are
lots of pavilions and the most famous is, no doubt, Moresque, made in Arabic style with original
columns and a minaret.
If Moresque pavilion reminds about the traditions of eastern legends from "Thousand and One
Nights", V. Bogatyrev's "Fairy-tale" fountain conjures up Russian bylinas - it's the best place to read A.
Pushkin's "Tale About Tsar Saltan".
"Dendrarium" is “living" park. You can seen peacocks; ostriches live in a special open-air cage,
squirrels jump in the trees, in a special aquarium everyone can see various Black Sea fish, including
the famous Black Sea Katran shark, and standing by the pools you can marvel for hours at black and
white swans.
Sochi "Dendrarium" is one of the most beautiful places on Earth, a paradise made by people's
talent and hard work.
Unfortunately lack of financing led to the dilapidation of “Dendrarium”. Destroyed paths and
neglected park architectural complexes, lack of night lighting not to mention landscape lights. The
impossibility to purchase new plants gives visitors a reasonable right to complain.
Our project can change the situation with “Dendrarium” and help it to see the Olympic Games in
2014 in all its beauty.
Competitive Advantages of the Project
The main competitive advantages of the project are:
• building of a complex with a wide range of services, which will be an all year round
entertainment centre in Sochi;
• use of new technologies for building the complex, which will be unique in Russia and
will be a jewel in the crown of Sochi and will create conditions for attracting Russian and
foreign tourists;
• original design for attractions;
• using modern equipment;
• reduction of expenses due to high productivity of the equipment;
• own gas-piston power station (10 MW per hour);
• service quality due to expansion of services and flexible system of discounts;
• convenient location of the complex with available transportation (public transport,
motorways, Adler airport, railway station and seaport.
The pioneer factor is also very important. The first park in Russia will attract a
maximum number of visitors. Due to the location in Sochi our outlay in the complex will
be recouped rapidly. Another point to note: the Olympic Games will be held in Sochi in
2014.
The main strategy of the projected complex will be a complex policy of price
reductions, improvement of quality and standards of service.

“Dendrarium” Park will become a theme park after minimal reconstruction. It will have
an absolute advantage thanks for its ability to show the nature of our planet and to imitate
the past and future with the help of the most advanced technologies. Occupying an area
of 25000 square metres the complex will consist of the large-scale objects, which will
carry educational and informative functions.
All theme objects are stand independently and some of them will create focal points
of the thematic complex. As every object will have its theme and will form its own unique
style, the complex will not depend on the weather and can work year round. The project
was approved by the management of the “Dendrarium” Park.

The Greenhouse Project (smaller version of Cornwall Eden, UK) will become a
demonstration of a new ecological approach, transforming the area into a beautiful
paradise. The translucency of the huge dome will not allow the visitors to see inside. The
giant Biodome reflects the sky, allows the sun to shine in, or merge together with the rain.
When people can see it from a distance, it is not possible to understand how it is made
and how big it is. The Biodome is made of a thin steel tubular construction. The surface
of the sphere will be constructed of six hexahedral “cushions” each 12 metres wide. This
geometrical form is common in nature (for example, honeycomb or insects‟ eyes) and is
amazingly durable. The “cushion” itself is made of ETFE, a state of the art polymer
material, which has unique qualities. It weighs 1% of the total weight of the glass, and
cleans itself during periods of rainfall; it doesn‟t release any harmful emissions into the
atmosphere, and the most important – it allows UV rays to penetrate which is essential
for the plants.
Apart from that, ETFE is very solid: 12 people can stand together on it, and the
whole construction is designed for heavy loads of snow. The “Tropical” Biodome is 200
metres long, 80 metres wide and 40 metres tall (which is equal to a 15 storey building).
Inside mature plants will be planted. Beautiful palms from New Guinea and the Oceania
Islands, lianas and orchids will show all the beauty of tropical forests.
Also, creation of the BIOME will allow employees of the Research Institute of
Mountain Forestry and Ecology, which is located in the Sochi “Dendrarium”, to do
serious scientific work .
For more than 80 years, a planetarium and star theater immerse viewers in virtual worlds.
The projection dome is a huge screen to show celestial objects, slides, video and special
effects. Planetarium dome with its field mapping 360 ° to 180 ° from the outset offers
visitors the illusion of immersion. Devices of planetarium - masters of illusion. They show
the stars, taking into account the different positions of observation and they also work as
a time machine. Indeed, they are specialists, optimizable for the submission of our
cosmic environment. Each zone has its own set of theme and form your own unique style
which is part of the complex, and allows organic to place them on the premises using the
free patches and regulate the movement of visitors. It reduces the environmental burden
to the entire territory. All buildings in the complex are built from lightweight mode of
construction, which will minimize the duration of assembling and use of heavy
construction machinery.
Dino-Rampage is a large-size indoor modern attraction which integrates the already
successful elements including: 3D animated movie clips, dynamic motion cars, 4D disaster
imitation and various performance tricks. The attraction of the simulation comes from the
combination of our dynamic motion car, with a high degree of freedom of movement, and the
multiple silver screens in different areas. The combination of these technologies creates a ride
that tourists can enjoy through endless thrills and excitement during the 4 minute duration of
the motion car adventure.
Story
In the year 2020, humanity has made a great achievement in the field of biotechnology.
The Municipal Museum has performed a series of experiments regarding the incubation of
ancient dinosaur eggs and embryos, which have been heavily covered by the media and
arouses the attention of the world. However, an unexpected occurrence happens when the
scientists are right on the brink of a breakthrough: the genes of the dinosaur embryos mutate
radically after irradiation of the dinosaur DNA by a mysterious combination of isotopes. The
dinosaurs develop overnight, break through the front door of the museum and rush on to the
streets of the city. The tourists in the museum evacuate immediately under the supervision of
futuristic police and they escape aboard an aero-bus. Meanwhile dinosaurs have spread all
over the city, flying between skyscrapers, gnawing on billboards with their teeth, knocking over
the high-rise walls with their huge bodies and ravaging everything in the city; thus putting the
lives of the tourists in jeopardy. The people riding the attraction are the people in real life
sitting in the aero-bus.
Dino-Rampage is an attraction using a combination with 3D films and crafted dioramas to
create a scene that will emulate what the tourists see from inside the tourist car. This includes
simulations of the museum's rooms and halls, the streets outside and the parapets of the
futuristic city.
Each scene will be made to resemble the actual site, especially in important scenes such as
the reproduction of a city landscape that has been greatly ravaged by dinosaurs including:
remnant walls, collapsed buildings, burning cars everywhere, electrical sparks arcing where
the power lines have short-circuited, and a loud alarm which gives the intense atmosphere a
strong sense of urgency.
Additionally, our designers have fully taken into account the consistency of movie screen
blending with the outdoor scene. For example a movie clip of a 3D dinosaur jumping off the
movie screen and falling on a collapsed beam. In the outdoor scene an actual beam sways
accordingly to complete the integration of the movie and the physical set and thus make the
entire scene more credible.
All the films are produced and played using our 3D technology. The audience wearing 3D
excursion glasses can enjoy the 3D pictures with intense depth sensation. Many special
designs are adopted for each scene, physical art is emulated, 3D movie scenes are
flawlessly integrated with an identical perspective relationship between the 3D movies and
the emulated scenes. The audience can share an entire 3D visual effect from the tourist car
and enjoy a very strong visual impression because of the complete enclosure of each indoor
and outdoor scene, which mimics expansive space and close scenery at the same time.
General Introduction
With an amazing
hemispherical shaped screen, spectacular 3D
visuals and a breathtaking mid-air suspended
viewpoint, the Sky Sailor will allow audiences to
feel like they are birds flying through the air!
The Sky Sailor is a new type of 4D theatre
that integrates such hi-tech elements as 3D
visuals, a spherical theatre screen, large lifting
mechanisms and on-site special effects. Owing
to its ingenious and spectacular design, it
represents the cutting edge of state-of-the-art
technology in the modern entertainment industry
and is now a new milestone in theatre
technology and development.
Sky Sailor covers about 16000 square feet,
is 82 feet long and is composed of a huge
hemispherical screen, a dynamic motion-chairraising system, mechanical arms, a special
effects system and 3D animated movie content.
Display System Of The Huge Spherical Screen
The diameter of the Sky Sailor
hemispherical screen is 72 feet. The surface of the screen is entirely coated with metal in order to
attain perfect three-dimensional visual effects. Two 70mm pearl-eye polarizing projectors are used
in Sky Sailor to project films with clear image, vivid colour, and create a magnificent view. The
audience needs to wear super wide-view polarized glasses that are specially designed and
manufactured for Sky Sailor.
New Hanging Auditorium Seating Feature The most ingenious part of Sky Sailor is its
hanging auditorium seats that are vertically oriented. Four rows of auditorium seats can
accomodate 72 persons simultaneously. The auditorium seats will be raised from the ground when
the audience is seated and locked into the chair, lifting them into the air. This creates a spectacular
view even before the film begins. The highest auditorium seat is 46 feet high from the ground and
the lowest one is 23 feet high. The whole process of raising takes about 1 minute after all audience
members are locked in.
Movie And Sound The movies played by this theatre are specifically made by computer to
be synchronized with the physical special effects of Sky Sailor and to take advantage of the
uniquely shaped screen. It can feel like you fly freely in the sky during the course of the film lasting
about 5 minutes. You will feel like you need to dodge the mountains right in front of your face and
you will feel the plunge as you fall down a gorge. All the visuals are extremely vivid due to our 3D
technology in the movies and the theatre will add such special effects as wind blowing and mist
spraying. You can experience unheard of thrills.
Sky Sailor is equipped with a 7.1 channel sound system that reproduces surround-sound
effects that sound so real, that during your „flight‟ you can feel the sounds are coming from all
directions: front, back, left, right, above and below.
Powerful Mechanical Arms The raising of the audience is mainly accomplished by hydraulic
mechanical arms that lift the audience in an extremely safe and stable manner.
Wild Ants 4D is a 4D Theater
upgraded with physical special effects
such as puppets and various physical
devices blended into the environment.
When the movie plays, the
physical effects blend in with the
events on the 3D screen. The result is
so encompassing that the audience
will feel like they are part of the show.
Those Wacky Bugs is a rotating 3D theatre attraction. This is a special type of
theatre where the audience, of about 40, sits in the middle and the room rotates
to each new scene.
• Each scene has it's own special decoration and theme around a movie
screen.
• The screen will show a 3D movie while the audience wears 3D glasses.
• Each scene will show a different part of the plot and will be enhanced by the
physical scenery built around it. The result is a very interesting, magical effect
for the audience members.
Musical Fountain is the central place of gathering for tourists. It is located in front of the
entrance into the BIOME. The area surrounding the fountain, will be a place for rest for
visitors before they continue their tour around the park. The water of the Musical
Fountain dances to the rhythm of the music. The musical fountain brings a new,
freshening and fine sensation for having a rest in the park during the day and evening
time. Around the Musical Fountain there will be sculptures, relaxation areas, information
services.
The ever popular Musical Fountain - Dance of Fire and Water Show offers a
spectacular light and sound experience after dark. The latest laser technology is
combined with motion pictures and 3-D animated images, choreographed to a ballet of
dancing water fountains, multi-sensory music and lights.
The “Dendrarium” is the future
Parks - urban areas where we relax and take refuge. They are locations of reassurance and beauty.
They represent points of reference in our cities and have become part of the identity of the city, and a
way for it to show off its culture.
The “Dendrarium” is an example. A tropical garden lighting project must consider difficult climactic
conditions, cultural norms, and, of course, local traditions. Quality of light is essential to ensure the
enjoyment of all green areas in the “Dendrarium”. Designing the light in these areas can not only
enhance their natural beauty, but also create a new dimension to the same environment, giving it new
life at night. This guide is a tool that reveals the potential of the quality lighting design of the
“Dendrarium” offered by state-of-the-art technical lighting equipment and systems. The guide
addresses themes of shape and design in terms of their impact on the landscape and illustrates the
infinite lighting control options offered by devices able to meet any design needs and requirements,
ranging from light effects to dynamic and coloured light.
The guide looks at energy saving from the points of view of cost saving and of safeguarding the
environmental balance in general. Light quality is also enhanced by awareness of security matters
affecting both the systems themselves and the areas they light, by literally shedding new light on dark
green areas and eradicating hidden dangers.
This technical lighting plan will therefore help restore the usability of areas that would otherwise
be no-go areas at night. The general topic also emphasises our full awareness of the battle that has
long been fought against light pollution and in favour of lighting that ensures visual comfort.
A light fitting becomes a part of the scenery
The main characteristics of certain landscapes need, by contrast, to be respected. Therefore, the
design of a light fixture should be sober and have chameleon-like shapes that blend perfectly with the
nature and the elements that make up the landscape. At times certain parks and gardens have strong
personalities because of the history behind them or because of the way they were specifically
designed. Lighting needs to be discreet in this case; these spaces need lighting that does not interrupt
their natural beauty, but at the same time it should silently bring it out. The formal design of some of
our products perform this function meticulously, enhancing nature and the elements that are within the
landscape, experiencing artificial lighting that lives harmoniously with both what is new and what has
pre-existed.
Lighting Effects
Light scenery is a garden‟s night-time look and feel. Lighting is used with creative intelligence, thanks
to fixtures that offer infinite variations for a myriad of lighting projects. Each detail and each lighting
element contributes to a final result that will show the true nature of a garden infused with new light,
with a new night-time look that is unassuming by day. Thanks to the new technological light fittings‟
possibilities, light is a real means to an end, defining the look of the night. It can take various forms
and formats: light cuts and shapes, lighting for certain objects or areas, dynamic light movements, and
coloured lighting.
Dynamics and light colour
Besides continuous lighting and its many effects, the new lighting systems allow us to create dynamic
light, which is able to mutate and reveal different aspects of the garden after sunset. It is animated with
movement that creates a veritable dance of lights, which is by nature changing and untouchable,
magical and mysterious. The most recent lighting techniques allow us to design with a true colour
palette, both thanks to the already tried and tested coloured filters that can be changed on the fittings,
as well as with new LED technology, which allows us to paint the garden with new and amazing
chromatic hues.
Visual comfort
The pleasing nature of a garden after sunset hinges upon the quality of light that is used and the
feeling of wellbeing that it is able to ensure. Because of this, it is imperative that we pay attention to
lighting as a service, which tries not to disrupt the visitor. These fittings all have special anti-glare
solutions so as not to disrupt the visitor‟s visual comfort. Light has now become a pleasure; one that
increases an open space‟s liveability without having to create any kind of light pollution. The use of
different power supplies gives us the opportunity to use warm and cold lights based upon the surface,
in order to make them even more alive and vibrant and to optimize visual comfort as well.
Safety for all citizens
The quality of light is also seen by its ability to increase a location‟s safety, thereby eliminating the
dangers that could hide in the shadows of the night. Too often, in fact, public parks and private outdoor
areas become places that we keep away from during the night hours because of safety concerns that
depend upon either bad lighting or sometimes a lack thereof. With an intelligent and efficient lighting
system that stems from a well-thought-out lighting design project, a park can be recuperated for its
citizens, inviting them to visit more often and improving the quality of social life. Lighting thus creates
more occasions for outdoor social activities during our free time.
Cost Containment Energy Saving
The great outdoors is a giant energy engine that creates an ecological equilibrium and contributes to
our well-being. This equilibrium must be upheld after sunset as well, with well-lit landscapes, and by
avoiding wasted energy; by saving energy while keeping costs at a minimum. In order to reach this
objective, we have enlisted the aid of electronics within each light fixture. Electronics stabilize the
power of each light unit, prolonging the life of the unit and avoiding continuous replacements and
excess waste. Electronics also permit precision control of lighting intensity thereby eliminating overflow
and excess. Energy dispersion is minimized thanks to this stability. And electronics also makes
maintenance of the light fixtures so much easier, making the general system more efficient and less
costly.
So Sochi “Dendrarium” will turn from the place of habitation of different types of plants into an enchanting park
thanks to the light design. It will give pleasant and unforgettable feelings to the visitors in the evening and night time
which was impossible before because of the lack of lightning.
Installation of the latest video surveillance system along the
whole territory of the “Dendrarium” park will allow to increase the level
of safety of visitors and protect the relict plants from vandalism.
Guarding the equipment of projected park objects will be
carried out by the police security service.
For adaptation of the plan and for taking full advantage of the 3D space, in all
attractions of the park the same space is combined. The area is landscaped in the form
of an open-air garden. For example, the roof of Dino-rampage which measures 40005000 square metres is in the Dino Garden of the same scale. The exit combined with the
Garden on the roof can be used as a relaxation zone or as a zone for taking memorable
photos.
Every part of the garden will have its own shape and it will form its own unique
style, which will allow it to fit in the park using free areas and creating new touristic
routes; and regulate streams of visitors and decrease ecologic pressure on the territory.
All buildings of the complex are to be built of lightweight construction materials which will
allow to reduce the deadlines of the construction and use of heavy construction vehicles.
The park will be open from 10am until midnight every day in the summer
season (5 months). In the other month‟s it will work from 11am until 9pm with one
technical day every week. All the attractions are free from 12pm until midnight. Capacity
is 15,000 people per day. The current price will not change.
