In particular these additional features allow the beacon to be used in harbour traffic light applications as detailed in the IALA recommendation E-111 1998. To allow flexibility to resolve the day visibility for traffic light applications the VLB-44E can be configured from 1-8 tiers with any combination of vertical divergence lenses. The VLB-44E lenses comprise vertical divergences of 2.5, 5, and 10 degrees. There is also a wideangle asymmetrical lens that points downwards below the horizontal to provide close in visibility of the light. The asymmetric lens has its peak intensity on an angle of 8 degrees below the horizontal and has a divergence of ±5 degrees either side of the peak. The ability to select the lens divergence for each tier of the beacon allows the performance of the light to be adjusted depending on the designed mounting height to ensure it remains visible as a vessel approaches. A 2.5 degree lens or lenses is used for the long range intensity requirement and the wider lenses including the asymmetrical lens are used to provide intensity at the larger angles when the vessel is closer and possibly below the mounting height of the light. Vega can assist with the lens selection if required. The information needed is the mounting height, required day range, colour, flash character, and the minimum and maximum viewing height for vessels. EXTENDED FEATURES There are two operating modes depending how the VLB-44E beacon is programmed • Normal Mode – Day/Night transition controlled by light sensor in beacon. – On/Off input can turn light on if it is off. • Traffic Light Mode allows manual control of the beacon – Internal light sensor in beacon is inactive – Beacon operation On/Off input controls – Day/Night input controls high/low intensity – Character 1 / Character 2 controls flash character normally Flash/Fixed for traffic light applications. Additional features provided include: • Alarm/monitor output (Beacon Healthy) • Beacon on output • RS232/485 data port All VLB-44E Beacons are tested in the Vega zero range light tunnel prior to shipment to ensure the light output meets the required specification. EASY PROGRAMMING Programming is done using the Vega TVIR programmer. The VLB-44E LED marine beacon supports the standard features found on Vega marine LED beacons. • Automatic Schmidt-Clausen intensity correction for short flashes • Multiple effective intensity settings • Day/night transition level settings for normal mode • Programmable flash characters • Programmable custom characters • One programmable custom character • Synchronisation control including master/slave options and sync delay • Programmable sleep and test modes • Programmable low battery voltage cut out • Program control of RS-232 data port • Optional securiy code.
