Dear LCC Supporter:
I invite you to take a close look at this annual report. In it, you will be
able to see for yourself what a wonderful financial year LCC had
thanks to you, loyal sons and daughters. You will be able to see a
glimpse of the young people who benefit as a result of your
generosity. Our supporters were very good to LCC last year and for
that I thank you on behalf of our students, faculty and staff.
One of my favorite Bible passages is Matthew 14:18-20 “Then he
said, ‘Bring them here to me,’ and he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass.
Taking the five loaves and two fish, and looking up to heaven, he said the blessing,
broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, who in turn gave them to the crowds.
They all ate and were satisfied, and they picked up the fragments left over - twelve
wicker baskets full.” For those of you who supported LCC and its students last year, be
it financially, through prayer or physical support, you were “feeding” Christ’s young
people. You helped to provide a quality Catholic education here in Lima and helped
chart a direction of faith, hope and love for everyone connected with Lima Central
Catholic.
Many years ago, I was interviewed as the principal of Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary’s
High School. The interviewer asked me what goal I would like to see accomplished for
the school. Without blinking, I said “an endowed school” - a school that can afford to
help all families receive the best Catholic education possible and not have to make a
tough decision on affording or not affording the school; a school that can provide a
financial package that attracts the best and brightest teachers and staff and makes
them want to stay forever and ever. This is my dream for LCC one day.
Last year many of our alumni and friends were very supportive of our annual fund as
you will see as you page through this report. Again I thank you but also ask for your
continued help this school year. As you can see, only about 6% of the LCC alumni
supported our drive last year and 10% of our parents. This year, would it be possible
to increase our alumni and parent participation to 50%. Maybe that’s a stretch,
however, with the alumni base that LCC has it can be an attainable goal.
Anytime our supporters would like to see for themselves what is going on at LCC, you
have an open invitation to stop by and visit. Our student ambassadors would love to
guide you through the LCC facility and it would give you an opportunity to talk with our
amazing group of young people.
Once again, thank you for your support of LCC as well as your future support. May
Christ continue to bless you and bless Lima Central Catholic High School.

Meet our new Principal……..
Dear Friends of LCC:
I am pleased to be writing you as the new Principal of
Lima Central Catholic High School. I am originally from
New Jersey where I was a teacher and a Principal in
both the public and Catholic schools and most recently
from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia where I was
Principal.
Many people have asked why I chose to come to Ohio and LCC. I can tell
you that having come from larger cities, Lima appealed to me. And while
smaller, it in no way implies that it offers a smaller variety of restaurants,
shops or activities; in fact I am quite impressed with what Lima has to
offer. It is only a short distance to major cities.
I am a firm believer that God leads us to where we ought to be. He has a
plan for us and takes us where we need to be to live that out. So here I
am in Lima, Ohio ready to be the Principal of what I have to quickly come
to realize, is a high school that is already a great institution for academics,
athletics and arts but has the potential of becoming a powerhouse in
providing the best Catholic school educational experience in this and
many of the surrounding areas.

Athletics
What an incredible year for athletics here at Lima Central Catholic! In
fact, until one of our distinguished alumni tries to prove otherwise, I think
you can safely call 2011-12 the most successful sports year in the
history of our school. Along with Mykale Rogers bringing home a state
title in the long jump, our baseball team reached the state championship
game, John Kidd & Alex Swick reached the state championship match in
doubles tennis, and our boys and girls golf teams both reached state,
finishing second and fourth respectively. But that only tells a small
portion of the story.
In figuring up the numbers, there were over two hundred T-Bird
athletes who competed at the regional level last year. Our football team

finished the regular season undefeated and #1 in the state, with girls

volleyball, girls soccer and boys basketball teams all reaching the
LCC ’82
regional tournament. Add to that the large number of cross country
runners, track athletes, wrestlers and swimmers who reached regional
and state tournaments. So as I said, the gauntlet has been thrown down by last year’s
athletes, and until someone can tell me different, I OFFICIALLY DECLARE 2011-2012 THE
GREATEST SPORTS YEAR IIN THE HISTORY OF LIMA CENTRAL CATHOLIC!
But if there is any area that our athletic success was surpassed, it was in the job done by all
of our parents, and especially our Athletic and Band Boosters, in supporting our students.
Believe it or not we spent $470,270.06 in supplying the best athletic and band experience for
our students. But because of the work done by the boosters, our total income was almost
$480,607.39 leaving us with a nice cushion heading into this next year. We’ve already begun
using that , as you will see when you walk in the old gym where we went “old school” with the
floor that now displays the 1960 T-Bird and the original scarlet and teal colors. Regular
maintenance on both the baseball and softball fields and the new gymnasium will eat into that
profit also. But we know that the continued support of our families and the boosters will lead
us to another great year financially.
And you did read the last paragraph correctly, we have resurrected the Band Boosters and
combined them with athletics to form the new Athletic and Band Boosters. The combination
has helped out the band and flag corps as much as athletes, as they had an incredible year at
their many competitions, winning awards almost everywhere they competed.
So please do all you can to continue supporting our athletes, band and flag corps members.
As you can see from the amount of money needed, your help is needed in achieving our yearly
goal of spending NO TUITION DOLLARS on our athletes and band members. To join the
Boosters, we only ask $25. But what we really need is your time. Please check with myself, or
your student’s coach, on how you can get involved and help LCC to continue providing a topflight experience for your child.
2011 LCC Educational Foundation Financial Report
The Educational Foundation is comprised of three endowment funds, the
general fund, the Scholastic Assistance Fund and the Julia & Nellie Miller Fund. The
Scholastic Assistance Fund and the Julia and Nellie Miller Fund both provide
donations to individual students for tuition assistance not to exceed 5% of the
investments’ assets. The general fund can donate up to 5% of the investment assets
to the school itself each year.
The fiscal year for the LCC Educational Foundation coincides with the calendar
year so this accounting is for the calendar year of 2011. As of December 31, 2011, the
general fund balance was $1,597,947.00, the Miller Fund balance was $1,316,414.00
and the Scholastic Assistance Fund balance was $ 6,926.00. While the amount for
loan payments is almost equal to the amount given in scholarships, the loan has now
been paid in full.

Congratulations to our first Academic Scholarship winners! This past May, each
Lima grade school provided LCC with students who were examples of academic
excellence. First place at each grade school received a $500 scholarship and
second place received a $250 scholarship for their freshman year at LCC. As long
as the student maintains their GPA, those scholarships will be renewable for the

Former Long-Time Math Teacher, Tom Barnhart, visited
Alaska this year and had his photo taken with this Alaskan
style “Thunderbird.”
Mary Henne Weadock, LCC’62 said she treasured her days at LCC as
she made her donation to the Class of 1962’s specially created
endowment fund.
Connie Schenk Thoele, LCC ‘66 wrote to advise us of her new address,
it is 14306 Detroit Ave, Apt 1037, Lakewood, Oh. Phone 216-712-7055.
She said she would love to hear from her LCC friends. She reminded us
she was a Thunderette in 1964 and 1966.
Ron Moening, LCC ‘66 recently celebrated his 10th year as general
counsel for Lakeview Farms, a national food producer, based in Delphos,
Oh. Previously he had 25+ years with Robinson, Curphey & O’Connell
Law Firm in Toledo. Ron resides with wife Carolyn in Toledo.
Heather Kochen O’Connor, LCC ‘89 married Matt O’Connor in 2005, has
a 2 year old son, Ryan, is now 18 years with Ryerson Steel as Quality
Manager for the Chicago market. Heather and family live in North
Webster, IN.
John DeHaven, LCC ‘89 has been married for 18 years, lives in Findlay
and recently received his MBA from Bluffton University. John has two
sons, Joey(15) at St. Wendelin in Forstoria and Nick (13) who attends St.
Michaels Elementary in Findlay.
Kyle Rabe, attended LCC 1994-96, currently an orthodontist in Tucscon,
AR, Kyle served as a caddie for Doug Wade in a major PGA tournament
this summer.
Doug Wade, LCC ‘97 lived his dream this summer when he played as
one of 32 golfers in a major PGA tournament at the Ocean Course at
Kiawah Island, S.C. His former LCC classmate, Kyle Rabe, served as
caddie. Doug played golf at LCC and at The Ohio State University . Doug
is currently the head pro at the Miami Valley Golf Club in Dayton.

Courtney Gandy, LCC 2007 We advised you previously that Courtney is a member of
the Peace Corps and that St. Charles Parish was
collecting school supplies for her to take with her to
Zambia, Africa. Courtney will be in Zambia for a total
of 27 months. Included is a photo of Courtney (far
right) in Africa . Courtney would love to hear from
her classmates and friends, you can comment on

Katie Fisher Krieg, LCC 2005 has been hired as
the LCC Girls Basketball Coach. Katie is married to
Jeremy Krieg, LCC 2004 and they are expecting
their first child.
Adam Swick, LCC’08,graduated from the Wharton School of Business with a BS in
Economics with a concentration in Finance.

Send us your photographs if you are a member of a religious order or know of an alum who is a
member of a religious order. As part of the many updates in our school campus facilities, we have
created a special wall to honor alumni who have answered God’s call to serve as a member of a
religious order. We are hanging 4 x 6 photos of alumni who have made that commitment as a
reminder to us all that we all are called to “go forth and teach” as Jesus instructed. Here are a few of

BECAUSE OF YOU, OUR GENEROUS DONORS...
As with any structure, Lima Central Catholic, built originally in 1959 is in
constant need of both repair and upkeep. Even the newest building on our
campus is now 10 years old. Because of our generous donors, we were
able to make the following improvements and necessary maintenance
without a huge increase in our tuition.
Excavated old drive and replaced blacktop on the drive behind the school
Replaced water drainage system
Stripped, repainted and sealed old gym floor, featuring a retro-style T-Bird
Refurbished the new gym floor
Stripped wallpaper and painted lobby outside old gym
Relocated offices so they are all centrally located and entirely built one new office
Created a new meeting room for the Kairos student retreat team
Created a “CALL TO SERVE WALL” in the lobby outside old gym
Replaced security cameras
Painted many walls and applied some logos and Bible sayings
Replaced ceiling in main entryway of school
Installed a computer monitor at entryway to welcome guests
Built new space for “Spirit Shop” in the new gym
Replaced hinges/and or locks on all the lockers
Planted rose bushes and mulched
All this was in addition to making repairs caused by storm damage to the
old gym as well as our usual summer painting and thorough cleaning.

From the LCC Development Office
Thank you to all who contributed to the 2011-12 Annual Fund Campaign. WE
DID IT! WE MADE OUR GOAL AND THEN SOME! Our goal was an ambitious
$100,000 given that the previous year we only brought in $56,337.64. However, you
answered the call and donated $138,639.00 for unrestricted purposes.
I have even more good news! In the 3 years I have been in this job, we have
not tracked any of the restricted donations, but we started doing that this year. In other
words, if you donated to the Educational Foundation or athletics or to the band, we are
also now tracking those donation totals. In the 2011-12 fiscal year, you donated
$171,928.35 for restricted purposes. I suspect that was also an increase, though I
have no previous figures to compare.
That means our generous donors gave a total of $310,567.35 and that
doesn’t count any money spent/donated through either the three
student fundraisers or the auction or any athletic fundraisers! You
are amazing!
I hope you will review this annual report. I have thrown in some other facts of
which the most important is 100% participation from our staff at LCC. As you know,
our staff doesn’t make salaries commensurate with their public school counterparts,
yet they all made a donation to our campaign. They are such wonderful folks!
We know we ask a lot of those who support Lima Central Catholic. Your
support and generosity is always greatly appreciated. This past year because of the
amount contributed we eliminated 1 of our 4 student fundraisers and all 3 of our mail
out raffle tickets which were costly to produce, taking numerous man-hours to mail and
yielding a minimal return.
A donation to the Annual Fund Campaign is the one donation that supports all
aspects of a Catholic education. The Annual Fund will always be necessary to fill the
gap between what it costs to educate a child and what parents pay in tuition.
So when the 2012-13 Annual Fund Campaign letters are mailed in November, I
hope you will again answer the call and prayerfully consider a donation to help us
achieve our GOAL OF $150,000 in unrestricted donations.
