Tomball Ford – Tomball Dodge is supporting our second annual Greater North Houston Choral Festival
with a generous sponsorship. The LSC-Tomball Fine Arts Department is deeply grateful for the support of the
community and we truly believe that the arts are truly a “force for good” – bringing positive attention to, and
bringing people together from, our community. At the time of this writing, 20 schools from 6 ISDs will be
performing at LSC-Tomball on April 11. We are still receiving registrations.
Thank you to Melissa McDonough, Festival Organizer, and Tomball Ford-Tomball Dodge for their generous
support of this significant community event! We are inspired by their community-mindedness.

LSC-Tomball Fine Arts has been awarded a Humanities Texas mini-grant for an interdisciplinary project
entitled Music’s Passion and History’s Pull: Gounod’s Romeo and Juliette.
Music’s Passion and History’s Pull: Charles Gounod’s Romeo and Juliette began as an idea among LSCTomball’s Fine Arts, Honors College, Center for International Studies, and English Department faculty.
Shakespeare’s England, 19th century France, and Renaissance Italy – the themes of family, power, and
society – use of language and rhetorical analysis – an exploration of related music from Broadway and
American musical theater to France in the 1850s: these are elements connected through the spring 2017
project.
Campus and community are invited to explore music, literature, history, and make interdisciplinary
connections at LSC-Tomball! Grant related events are as follows:

INAUGURAL CONDUCTING WORKSHOP at LSC-Tomball
On March 25, LSC-Tomball Music hosted a Conducting Workshop with Maestro Brad Bouley in
Beckendorf Conference Center. Six brave conductors from schools and organizations around the area
(Tomball to Aldine) were mentored by the extraordinary Maestro Bouley as Conducting Fellows. In the
afternoon singers from LSC-Tomball Concert Choir, Texas Master Chorale, and community gathered to
provide a “live” conductor’s choir. Repertoire included: “For Unto Us Is Born”, “And the Glory of the
Lord” (both from Messiah) and Ola Gjeilo’s setting of “Ubi Caritas.” It was a productive day - many
thanks to Maestro Brad Bouley and all who participated!
