Lesson 9.9 Estimating Sums and Differences

Lesson 9.9 Estimating Sums and Differences
I can estimate sums and differences with mixed numbers
Steps
1) Round each mixed number to the nearest whole number
1
a. Any fraction or greater rounds up to the next whole number
2
1
b. Any fraction less than remains the whole number that is
2
already there.
2) Add or subtract the rounded numbers

So now the problem becomes 8 – 7 = 1

will round up to 7
