Week 9’s Theme of the Week is!
The Brantford Day Camps will be
having a week full of activities
relating to the theme.
Tuesday is Backwards Day! Come
dressed in regular clothes only
wear them backwards or inside
out! (Your choice!)
Thursday is Theme Day! Come
dressed as your favourite circus
animal, clown, or acrobat and be
prepared to participate in a full
range of activities and crafts!
To teach and promote the YMCA of Core Values of Respect,
Responsibility, Caring and Honesty, the Brantford Day Camps will be
giving each child a Core Value Paper Chain. The paper chain will start
off small, but grow with coloured construction paper every day as
children demonstrated our Core Values. As well, each child will receive
a Core Value Certificate that highlights an action they did that
demonstrated a Core Value by the end of the week.

YMCA Focus: Developmental Assets
Research has shown that there are 40
critical components that children need to
grow into positive and successful adults
(www.searchinstitute.org). Recreation and
child care programs, like those offered
through the YMCA, encourage children to
gain these skills, attitudes, and beliefs.
Peaceful Resolution Conflict – Children are
encouraged to discuss conflicts with the staff
and other children to determine an
appropriate action and resolution. Our staff
members mediate these talks and allow the
children to agree upon the appropriate
outcome.
Here is a fun song that we sing at camp
that you can sing at home in the morning.
Solo: Let me see your Funky Chicken!
Group: What’s that you say?
Solo: I said let me see your Funky Chicken!
Group: What’s that you say?
All: I said oh ah, Funky Chicken. Oh Ah one
more time. Oh Ah Funky Chicken, Oh Ah,
get back in line!
This song can continue for a while
replacing Funky Chicken with other actions
(i.e. Spider-Man, ballerina, Arnold
Schwarzenegger, etc.)!
