Introduction to Appreciative Inquiry

Appreciative Inquiry
Creating more of
“What’s Right”
Appreciative Inquiry (AI) helps
organizations consciously and
deliberately shift their collective ways
of being & seeing to an appreciative
approach that will help them focus on
what’s right with their organization
(rather than what’s wrong) so that
they can inquire into what’s right and
then find ways of intentionally
creating more of that.
Success = More Success!
Organizations that focus on where they have
had success are able to create even more
success!
5 Generic Steps of Appreciative Inquiry*
1. Choose the
positive as the
focus of inquiry
5. Innovate and
improvise ways to
create that future

How can we build on past success?

Pre-lunch Overview
- We have a positive focus of inquiry
- We have inquired into past examples
of success
- We have dreamed what we might do
to support successful implementation
- In the afternoon we will continue to
dream, plus look at how we might
realize our ideas = a plan for success!
