Does
chewing
gum help you
concentrate?
Step 1:
gum.

 Step 3:

Take the test without chewing

Take the test while chewing
Record the results.
Compare the results.
 If
I take the test without the gum
and with the gum afterwards, then
I will be able to tell if chewing
gum while testing helps because
of the results that were given.
 In
this experiment, I used a
stopwatch, a stick of gum, a
notebook to record the results,
and a simple subtraction test.
Step 1: Take the simple subtraction
test without chewing gum.
 Step 2: Record the results.
 Step 3: Take the simple subtraction
test while chewing gum.
 Step 4: Record the results.
 Step 5: Compare the results from the
first test and the second test.





Constant: The things that stayed the same in this
experiment were, the person taking the test and
the simple subtraction test.
Controlled Variables: I compared the speed and
accuracy from the first test and the speed and
accuracy from the second test to see if chewing
gum did help.
Independent Variable: The thing I purposely
changed in this experiment was chewing gum
while testing and not chewing gum while testing.
Dependent Variable: The thing that changed in
this experiment was the speed and accuracy.

The person taking the test got a better
score on the second test, because she
was chewing gum. The speed and
accuracy on the first test was, 1
minute and 57 seconds and she
missed 5. The speed and accuracy on
the second test was, 1 minute and 22
seconds and she only had 3 mistakes.

Yes, chewing gum does help you
concentrate. During this experiment, I
learned that chewing gum while you
are testing helps your speed and
accuracy. If you chew gum while you
test there is a chance you will get a
better score on your test. The data I
have collected does support my
hypothesis because chewing gum
does help you concentrate.
