School Uniform Guide SCHOOL DRESS CODE Full School uniform must be worn both in and out of school except when Informal Dress regulations or Summer Dress regulations apply. Dancers in Halesowen are the school uniform suppliers and Ron Flowers Sports in Wolverhampton are the PE Kit suppliers. Items may also be purchased from the Nearly New Shop. YEARS SEVEN TO TEN The School's official uniform is: A Navy Blue Blazer Dark Grey Trousers Light Blue Shirt Grey or Black Socks, Blue School Sweater (if required) Shoes must be of plain black leather and be capable of being polished and be polished. Top coats must be plain and of a dark, sober colour and must cover the blazer. The official School coat can be purchased from the School stockist. If a scarf is worn, it must be the School scarf. Hats or caps may not be worn with school uniform. YEAR ELEVEN As Years 7 to 10 except that in Year 11 a white shirt may replace the light blue shirt. SIXTH FORM Sixth Form dress for male students is smart appropriate business wear comprising: A smart black, navy or grey (mid grey/charcoal) suit of a conventional style, not tightly fitted and either single or double breasted style. To be worn with a white or pastel coloured shirt which may be plain or subtly striped and tone with the suit An approved tie as listed below Plain dark socks Plain dark crew or v-necked sweater, cardigan or waistcoat if required, subject always to the tie being clearly visible at the neck of the sweater. Appropriate black shoes or ankle boots capable of being polished and be polished. Top coats must be plain and of a dark, sober colour and cover the jacket. If a scarf is worn, it may be the School scarf, Sixth Form scarf or a non-uniform scarf of a sober style and colour. Hats/caps may not be worn with school uniform. Sixth Form dress for female students is smart appropriate business wear comprising: A smart black, navy or grey (mid grey/charcoal) suit of a conventional style. The jacket may be matched with a dress, skirt or trousers each combination of which should match, be of conventional suit material and not fit tightly. The dress or skirt should be knee length to mid-calf and the trousers full length, White or pastel coloured shirt which may be plain or subtly striped and toning with the suit, Approved pin Plain dark or neutral toned tights with a dress or skirt, plain dark socks with trousers Plain dark crew or v-necked sweater or cardigan if required. Appropriate black shoes or ankle boots (for trousers only) capable of being polished and be polished. Heels should be no more than 2 inches high. Top coats must be plain and of a dark, sober colour and cover the jacket. If a scarf is worn, it may be the School scarf, Sixth Form scarf or a non-uniform scarf of a sober style and colour. Hats/caps may not be worn with school uniform. TIES / PINS Excepting on formal occasions when the School/Sixth Form tie (as appropriate for the year group) will be worn, or as directed by the Headmaster, the following ties may be worn with school uniform: House Sixth Form School Prefect House Prefect Scholar The following ties may be worn when representing the relevant activity and with the permission of the member of staff responsible for that activity. st Full Sports Colours Junior Sports Colours 1 Team Sports Music Colours Cadet House or School anniversary ties may be worn with school uniform for and during the anniversary or House occasion subject to the approval of the Headmaster. School representative tour ties may be worn with school uniform on tour subject to the approval of the Headmaster. Female Sixth Form Students may wear the corresponding enamelled pin as an alternative to an approved tie. Male students may wear an enamelled pin in addition to an approved tie. No more than one pin may be worn at any time. SPORTS CLOTHING Students will wear School approved sports kit appropriate to the sport played and as itemised on the kit list. If cycling shorts are worn underneath rugby shorts, either for training or matches, they must be plain navy blue, and without a visible logo. Students may wear their own sports kit for lunchtime and after school training lessons. Trainers with non-marking soles for use in the Sports Hall Relevant safety equipment must be used e.g. gum shields STUDENTS WHO ARE IN DOUBT ABOUT THEIR POTENTIAL SPORTS OPTION ARE ASKED TO CHECK WITH OSH SPORTS STAFF BEFORE BUYING KIT INFORMAL DRESS REGULATIONS Informal dress regulations apply after 16.00 on Monday to Friday, after lessons on Saturday and throughout the weekend. Sixth Formers may wear informal dress throughout the weekend. Full school uniform must still be worn on the following occasions unless authorised by the Housemaster: Students going to town on Mondays to Fridays; Students on official School business, including home or away matches, open mornings, Sunday services, concerts and other such activities; When requested by the member of staff in charge of an activity; When going home or returning to the School (except for boarders returning on the evening prior to school restarting). Students attending sporting clubs and activities after school-hours must wear the correct kit as stipulated by the member of staff in charge of the activity. Informal dress must be clean, smart and presentable. Matrons, Housemasters and staff on duty will determine whether a particular item is suitable for informal dress. Boarders must keep an appropriate amount of informal clothing in School and store it under the direction of Matrons and Housemasters. Matrons will assist Full Boarders with the laundering of informal dress but Weekly Boarders should arrange for informal dress to be laundered at home. No responsibility is accepted for items of informal dress which are put in the School's laundry system. Summer Dress Regulations Summer Dress Regulations apply in the Summer Term after the May Day Bank Holiday, or earlier if determined by the Headmaster. For Summer Dress shirts or blouses may be worn with sleeves rolled neatly above the elbow. Blazers or suit jackets should be removed. The Headmaster will decide if ties are to be worn depending on the weather. PURCHASE OF UNIFORM Dancers supply all items of school uniform and bedding, and Ron Flowers supply all PE/Games kit. Dancers are based in Halesowen which is situated six miles from the school, a journey of about 10 – 15 minutes by car or 20 – 25 minutes by bus from Stourbridge town centre. Unfortunately, it cannot be reached by train. For parents/guardians with access to the internet, search for www.multimap.com enter Dancers post code (B63 3AR) and it will give an exact location. Opening hours are as follows:Monday – Saturday 0900 – 1730 Sunday 1000 – 1600 (by prior arrangement only) Parents/guardians may purchase all items of uniform direct from the Halesowen shop during the above times. However, should the need for replacement uniform be identified during the school week, please contact them direct by telephone, fax or email. They deliver items of uniform for pupils on a weekly basis. When placing an order it is essential that you include the pupil’s full name and House to ensure correct delivery. Payment should be made direct to Dancers either by cash, cheque or credit/debit card in advance. Parents should contact Dancers as soon as possible to arrange for the purchase of uniform (please see price list for details). IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT ALL UNIFORM IS PURCHASED (INCLUDING ALTERATIONS) BY MID AUGUST 2015. PURCHASE OF PE/GAMES KIT The supply of all PE/ Games clothing will be through Ron Flowers Sports, Wolverhampton. The details are as follows: The PA Nearly New Shop is run on a voluntary basis by a group of volunteers to raise funds for the benefit of the boys of the school. It is run independently of the Parents Association. Uniform in good, clean condition may be donated to the shop. The money raised from the sale of uniform is given to the school through Grants, agreed with the Headmaster. Dates when the shop will open are published on FROG under the school information, school uniform tab and also on the shop door. They are also emailed out to all parents on a regular basis. Donated items may be brought to the Nearly New Shop, when open, or the School Office. Contacts for the shop: Carol Yapp [email protected] NAME TAPES FOR BOARDERS AND OUT BOARDERS Name tapes are essential items for all Boarders and Out Boarders and must show not only your son’s name but also his ‘senior house’. These name tapes can be supplied by Dancers, a ‘while you wait’ service. For all boys entering at ‘year 7’ a space will be left on the name tape so that the senior house can be added at a later date with permanent laundry pen. PARENTS MUST ENSURE THAT ALL GARMENTS, INCLUDING CASUAL CLOTHES, SENT TO THE SCHOOL ARE NAMED WITH A SEWN-IN NAME TAPE. Please place the name tapes in obvious places as per instructions below. If sewing onto an elasticated waistband, please stretch the material before sewing. On socks, name tapes are more easily sewn on either vertically or by folding in half with each end turned inside, then stitched vertically down the depth of the tape. Name tapes to be sewn as follows: Shirts/Sweaters Securely on the collar. Trousers/Cricket Trousers On the waistband but, if elasticated, please stretch first. Alternatively, school trousers can be labelled inside the zip front. Blazers/Jackets Inside the top of the inside pocket. School/PE socks Navy rugby socks Underwear Inside the top, but sew in with material stretched. Outside the top, so not visible with top turned down. Sew in with the sock stretched. On the waistband. Sew in with the material stretched. Athletic Vests/Rugby Shirts Games/PE Shorts Tracksuit trousers School Hooded Tops On the bottom LEFT edge of the hem of the coloured side. GENERAL INFORMATION FOR BOARDERS UNAMED ITEMS OF CLOTHING These are a considerable nuisance to both Laundry and House staff. They will be retained by the Laundry, and sent to charity if not claimed by the end of term. ALTERATIONS Dancers offer an alteration service whereby garments can be amended to fit as required. Please see price list. REPAIRS Matrons will arrange for urgent repairs for boarders during the school week, but parents are responsible for checking their sons' uniform and making all other repairs as necessary. PARENTS OF OVERSEAS STUDENTS Suppliers offer a delivery service for all school uniform to parents/guardians of overseas pupils only, as they may experience difficulties in visiting the Halesowen shop. Please contact suppliers directly and as soon as possible to discuss your requirements. They can also arrange for name tapes to be sewn onto clothing purchased from them (at an extra charge). LAUNDRY At the beginning of term, please consult your son’s House Matron for details of the House laundry system. It is recommended that blazers are dry cleaned. Trousers, sweaters and ties can be dry cleaned or washed at home by parents. Parents of full boarders should make suitable arrangements with Matrons. Parents/guardians should ensure that they use a washing powder/liquid without bleaching agents for all washable coloured clothing and bedding bought from Dancers. All other washable items of school uniform, including sports kit, can be washed in the school laundry. BEDDING It is essential that all bedding is purchased from Dancers, as it is made to measure specifically for our beds and all duvets are of a Proban treated cotton-covered fire retardant material. At the end of term one set of bed linen is retained for the first sheet change the following term. Parents of new pupils are asked to supply pillows for their sons, which should be clearly labelled with name tapes. Parents are asked to be responsible for the laundering of the pillows. END OF TERM Apart from the single set of bed linen which is retained for the beginning of the next term, all items of clothing and equipment must be taken home. The school accepts no responsibility for items left in school during the holidays. Special arrangements are made for pupils living overseas.
