IMPORTANT FISHERY INFORMATION
If you have not heard by now the DNR will be doing a MAJOR MUSKIE
ASSESSMENT on the St. Louis River this spring. The plan is to set 30 Large
Trap Nets thorough the Estuary and use 2 boats to check the traps daily.
This will require a lot of manpower and our chapter has offered to assist
with the assessment. Depending on the weather the assessment could
start by mid-April.
Dustin has taken the lead on getting together a list of Chapter Members
that are interested in helping. Please give him a call at 218-464-2379 or
drop him an email [email protected] Dustin will need your
email address and phone number so he can create a master list of
volunteers to work from.

Presidents Report
Presidents message,
First off I want to thank everybody that either attended, volunteered to help or just simply bought raffle tickets and returned them to me. This
year’s banquet was the most successful one that I have been involved with and we owe it all to the members that helped make it that way. After
all expenses were paid, we were able to put almost $6000.00 dollars into our chapter account. This amount of money will enable us to pay for our
share of the St. Louis River isotope study which will be $4000.00 dollars. The banquet is our main source of money for all of our chapter functions
and without it we wouldn’t be able to do as much as we do as far chapter events, support for the MMPA and the assistance we give to the local
DNR. Our next banquet will be Saturday March 17, 2018. I encourage members to step up and join the committee and let’s make next year’s
banquet more successful than this years.
The spring assessment on the St. Louis is approaching fast. Dustin Carlson will be starting to take names and making out work schedules. I
encourage anybody interested to sign up as soon as possible so you’re able to participate in this important research.
As some of you already know, we are bringing back the chapter musky tourney. The flyer is included in this month’s newsletter as is the
registration form. We will start accepting registration forms at the April meeting. Please consider fishing this tourney as it is an important first step
in raising dedicated funds for fisheries. The tourney is limited to 25 boats and we anticipate it filling quickly. If anybody has any questions please
feel free to call me at 218-390-8888.
One last item to touch on is the fisheries committee. As you can see in the newsletter there is a need for members to join this important
committee. We need people to help come up with fundraising ideas, action plans and help appropriate funds when the time comes to do so.
Please consider joining. It doesn’t matter if you’ve only been a member for a year or even less. All chapter voices matter and new opinions help
keep us all striving to make the best decisions.
Hopefully I’ll see you all the next chapter meeting.
Curt
