Moby Dick's
Although pirates seen to be an unruly bunch, aboard
ship they had a democratic set of rules. The captian was
voted on by a majority. Although the captain and a few of
the crew received more of the captured treasure, the rest
of the crew was under the rule of “share and share alike.”
Pirates liked small, fast ships. These ships were good for
getaways and for hiding in shallow water and streams.
RESTAURANT
A pirate’s flag was known as a “Jolly Roger.” Each
pirate captain designed his own flag to scare his enemies.

Right off the shore of Wellfleet, “Black” Sam Bellamy’s ship, The Whydah, sank in a fierce storm in April of
1717. Most of the crew were lost. Many people came from
miles around to gather up the treasure washing ashore.

Herman Melville in 1851.
The story followed Captain Ahab as he tried to capture a
