Highlands County Fire Services Tent/Sparkler Sales Inspection Checklist Tents Proper paperwork available on-site. Flame Resistant Certificate for tent and sides. (Permanently attached to the tent is acceptable.) Proof of registration with the State Fire Marshal’s Office. (Sparkler Sales) A copy of the State Fire Marshal’s List of Approved Sparklers with all items to be sold at the permitted location identified by highlighting and initialing the articles offered for sale. (Sparkler Sales) A copy of the purchase invoice from the manufacturer, distributor, or wholesaler. Said invoice must identify the specific items covered by the invoice. (Sparkler Sales) Tents erected to cover not more than 75 percent of the premises, All tent fabric flame resistant as per National Fire Protection Agency 701. Minimum of 10-ft between stake lines (multiple tents. The ground enclosed by any tent, and the ground for a reasonable distance but for not less than 10-ft outside of such a tent(s), shall be cleared of all flammable or combustible material or vegetation. The premises shall be kept free from such flammable or combustible materials during the period for which the public uses the premises. “NO SMOKING” Signs have minimum letter size of two (2) inches in height and posted at 20 foot intervals around the perimeter of the tent. Portable fire-extinguishing equipment of approved types furnished and maintained in tents. One 2A-10BC rated fire extinguisher shall be provide for every tent having a floor area more than 500 square feet but less than 1000 square feet and one in each auxiliary tent adjacent thereto. One additional 2A10BC rated fire extinguisher shall be provided for each additional 2,000 square feet or fraction thereof. At least one K Class fire extinguisher shall be provided for each kitchen and mess hall. At least one 40BC rated fire extinguisher shall be provided at power generators and at locations where flammable liquids are used, stored, or dispensed. Fire hose lines, water supplies and other auxiliary fire equipment shall be maintained on the site in such numbers and sizes as directed by the fire official. At least two exits with a minimum width of 6 feet for each exit provided. Tents with an occupant load greater than 200 but less than 500 shall be provided with not less than 3 exits with a minimum width of 6 feet for each exit. Tents with an occupant load greater than 500 but less than a 1000 shall be provided with not less than 4 exits with a minimum width of 8 feet for each exit. Tents with an occupant load greater than 1000 but less than a 1999 shall be provided with not less than 5 exits with a minimum width of 10 feet for each exit. Tents with an occupant load greater than 2000 shall be provided with not less than 6 exits with a minimum width of 10 feet for each exit. Means of Egress (Exits) shall be marked with exit signage. Illumination of Means of Egress. Adequate emergency lighting be provided. Permit for the erection of temporary power poles. Permit if new wiring is run from an existing electrical service. (Extension Cords are Exempt) Permit when using generator(s) having a 5 kW rating or greater to provide power to the tent. Fire lanes maintained free of all obstructions. Fire hydrants and fire protection appliances kept accessible to the fire department. Tents Selling Sparklers No cooking equipment within 20 feet of tent. No open flames within 50 feet of tent. Minimum of two (2) fire extinguishers with a minimum 2A rating, at least one of which shall be pressurized water. Maximum travel distance to an extinguisher shall not exceed 35 feet. Emergency lights are required if business is conducted after dusk. Exit signs must be continuously externally or internally illuminated by a reliable source if business is conducted after dusk. Tent must be within 150 feet of public way and Fire Department access. Tent must be at least 30 feet away from combustibles, including dry grass and brush. Parked motor vehicles, or trailers used for storage shall be at least 20 feet away from the tent except for deliveries. Each side of the tent shall have signs with letters of a minimum of two (2) inches in height stating; “NO SMOKING” and “NO FIREWORKS DISCHARGED WITHIN 300 FEET”. Tent must be at least 20 feet from any building, 50 feet from any propane dispensers, flammable/combustible aboveground storage tanks (300 feet from bulk storage areas).
