At the banquet on Saturday evening, St. Mary Magdalen was presented with the Culture of Life Award for the establishment and maintenance of the Children’s Memorial in our church. May 3, 2015 Finally, I would like to express the gratitude of all of our parishioners, along with my personal gratitude, to the State Council of the Knights of Columbus for choosing our Memorial to receive the Culture of Life Award for 2014-2015. Let us pray that the good work the Knights of Columbus do around the world will continue to flourish. Let us pray for all deceased children, especially the 300 or more now being remembered in a special way, at St. Mary Magdalen. God bless, We received a beautiful plaque and we hope to be able to display it in church close to the Memorial in the near future. The State Council is submitting the establishment of this Memorial to the Supreme (national) Council for further consideration for the national Culture of Life Award. Msgr. John Borcic I am grateful to the members of the Knights of Columbus Council 453, the Ladies Auxiliary, and the Pro-Life committee from St. Mary Magdalen parish for seeing this project through. It has certainly caught the attention of many people and we continue to receive names from all over the area as well as from out-State Missouri. The Memorial is dedicated to the Holy Family and calls to mind the Holy Innocents who were killed by King Herod as a way of trying to insure that Jesus, the true King of Israel and Herod’s supposed rival, was numbered among them. They are numbered among the martyrs of the Church and, therefore, have a special place in heaven. We believe that all children, pre-born or after birth, who have been called from this life much too early, and in whatever way, have a special place both in heaven and in our hearts. We entrust their souls to the care of our Heavenly Father and pray that they may intercede for us in our ongoing journey to heaven where our souls will be joined to theirs. The name of any child may be submitted to be inscribed on the Memorial. If you know anyone who may have lost a child, no matter how long ago, please invite them to send us the name. There is no cost but donations will be accepted. For further information you can have them call the rectory. Fifth Sunday of Easter From the Piano… I love singing the psalms. Sometimes, when I am grocery shopping, as I was the other day at Schnucks On the Hill, I'll hum the psalms as I walk up and down the aisles. The other day, I was humming Psalm 22, I will praise you, Lord, in the assembly of your people. A lady walked up behind me and asked me if that was humming the Frank Sinatra song, "Fly Me to the Moon". May 3, 2015 Our Lady of Fatima Traveling Statue This beautiful statue of Our Lady is available to be received into your home. By inviting Our Lady into your home, and with the recitation of the Rosary may you begin to experience a sense of peace, hope and healing into your lives. If you would like to have her at your home for a couple of weeks or know someone that would benefit from having her please call Kathy Schneider at 314-481-3923. I replied, "No, Ma'am. That was Psalm 22." She said, "Oh. I like Carrie Underwood, too." I replied back, "Ah, no, that was a responsorial psalm that we sing in church." She replied back to me, "What church do you go to where you can sing Carrie Underwood songs?" I could go on, because the conversation lasted a few more minutes. But you get the idea of how the rest of it turned out. Each week, I try and compose a musical setting for the psalms that is easy to sing, AND remember. This is so you can recall it during the week (even if it’s just the Alleluia part). As a matter of fact, when I checked out after shopping and I got to my car, I sang... Alleluia! _____________________________ Earlier this week, a man knocked on my door and asked for a small donation towards the local swimming pool. I gave him a glass of water. -Keith Ballentine St. Wenceslaus Tailgate Sale (3014 Oregon Ave. Gravois at Oregon) Saturday, May 16 8:00am—3:00pm Spaces Available @ $15.00 Bar-B-Que from 10am—2:30pm For more info or reservations Call Tim @ 314.882.5332 Let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth. -- 1 John 3:18 St. Mary Magdalen Parish Annual Blood Drive Sunday, June 7, 2015 8:30am—12:00 Noon Sign up will officially begin the weekend of May 16 and 17th in the back of church. Week #3 Highest Number of Runs—$50.00 Alex Fesi Lowest number of Runs — $25.00 Richard Loftus Dynamic Catholic, Alive! Holiness as Mark of the Church Holiness is one of the 4 marks of the Church (one, holy, catholic, and apostolic). The church is holy because her founder, Jesus Christ, is holy, and Christ and the Holy Spirit sanctify the Church. In Ephesians 5, Paul tells that Christ gave Himself up for the church “that she might be holy and without blemish.” As we learned last week, although we are all sinners, holiness is the vocation of each and everyone of the Church’s members. archstl.org/dynamic Soup Kitchen Attention All Plant Lovers All parishioners and friends of our parish, are asked to consider separating their hostas and ornamental grasses around their homes and donating them to our parish for planting around our campus.
