FLAG BEARER INFORMATION SHEET Congratulations on being selected as a Flag Bearer for the international friendly match between the Westfield Matildas and New Zealand on Saturday 4 June 2016 at Morshead Park. You will participate in the pre-match ceremony where you will carry out one of the FIFA Fair Play flags or one of the participating country flags. This information sheet describes the roles and responsibilities of a Flag Bearer both in the lead up to the match, and on match day. Pre-Match Day Briefing Session / Rehearsal Flag Bearers will be required to attend a pre-match day briefing/rehearsal session at Morshead Park on Saturday 4 June 2016 at 10:30am. This rehearsal will go for approximately one hour, concluding at 11:30am the latest. Unfortunately no parents/guardians will be allowed to enter the venue to watch the rehearsal. Flag Bearers should arrive dressed in their own sports kit and bring footwear (trainers only) and clothing appropriate for weather conditions. Finishing time: 3:15pm (children will be returned to their parents in their allocated seating by a FFA representative) Flag Bearer Criteria Number: Twenty-Two (18) Ten (10) children on FIFA Fair Play and FIFA flag and eight (8) children on country’s national flags Age: 13- 16 years old Pre Match Ceremony The Flag Bearers, referees and teams walk out from the direction of the dressing rooms (tunnel) towards the middle of the field and stop to face the main grandstand. 1. Ten (10) children walk out onto the pitch carrying the FIFA Fair Play and FIFA flags. Four (4) children on each flag country flag 2. Country flags are carried out to the field one (1) minute before the entry of the teams. 3. The referees walk out behind the children and place themselves on the centreline (8m from the western sideline) in front of the FIFA Fair Play facing the Western grandstand. 4. The teams follow the referees, one standing off to the left (Australia) and the other team to the right (New Zealand). 5. The FIFA Fair Play Flag is now located a few metres behind the referees and teams (inside the centre circle). Four (4) children hold the flags at its points. The flags are open and fully extended during this time. 6. In order to give the audience a good view, the two (2) children closest to the stands kneel down and sit on their calves. The middle two (2) children kneel tall or stand depending on their height and the two (2) children at the back remain standing. The flags are thus at an approximate 45 degree angle to the ground. Flag Bearer Benefits Tickets: Each Flag Bearer will receive two (2) complimentary tickets to this match (to be used by themselves and one (1) family member or friend). Please note that tickets cannot besold. Refreshments: Please make sure your child has something to eat before they are collected for their match day duties. Uniform: Flag Bearers are required to wear their own black trousers and white shirt (short or long sleeve permitted). No Logos.
