Yankalilla Community Children’s Centre 208-210 Main South Rd Yankalilla SA 5203 Ph (08) 8558 2387 Fax (08) 8558 3756 E-Mail: [email protected] Comments from Cathy Hi Everyone, Welcome to 2016!! I hope everyone had the opportunity to celebrate Christmas and New Year with their loved ones and have been taking as many opportunities as possible to keep cool at our fantastic beaches!!! Well 2016 has already begun in earnest for our hardworking childcare team!! After a day of cleaning and preparation by all staff (including preschool staff) on Monday 4th January, the centre opened for business on Tuesday 5th January. To start 2016, we welcome T’Leah Barker as our newly appointed full time permanent—Early Childhood Teacher!! This is a new position for our centre and will combine the role of Team Leader for the kangaroo’s room with the role of Educational Leader for the entire childcare program. T’Leah (a 4 year qualified Early Childhood Teacher) comes to us with over 7 years experience in early childhood settings. She has worked at St. Peters College Early Learning Centre, Café’ Enfield Children’s Centre, The Gowrie and more recently at the Encounter Lutheran Early Learning Centre. T’Leah will be working a nine day fortnight with alternate Mondays off. T’Leah will be supported by our amazing team of permanent educators—Diane, Sue and Tracey and regular relief staff—Sophie, Suzanne, Vari, Sheena, Mandy and Amanda. A huge thankyou to Tracey Bradley who has worked as acting team leader for the Kangaroo’s for the past 18 months. Tracey has done a fantastic job and she can now commence her permanent shifts in the Kangaroo room which have been on hold while the selection process for an Early Childhood Teacher has been underway. Also new for 2016—is the improved educator to child ratios for childcare and preschool. In childcare a new ratio has been introduced for children aged from 24months to 36 months. The new ratio will be 1educator to 5 children. This replaces last years ratio of 1 educator to 8 children. To cater for these changes we have introduced a new group of children. Children aged from 24 month to 36 months will now be known as “Possums” and will have a separate “sign-in sheet”. We will continue to operate as one room, but staffing will be increased in line with the new ratio’s. One complication of the new ratio’s is that it may impact on the availability of “casual” bookings. One extra child may not able to be so readily accommodated—so parents are encouraged to book their childcare as soon as possible or make a permanent booking to secure their child’s place. 2016 is already shaping up to be a great year as we continue to build on the quality of education and care provided at the Yankalilla Community Children’s Centre.
