Food Web Project
Congratulations! You have been selected to work on a project for the Akron Zoo! For
their next exhibit, you have been asked to create a Keynote Presentation showing a
food web for a group of organisms that live in a specfic ecosystem. The following are
the requirements for the project.
Requirements:
1) You must first select an ecosystem of the United States. Some examples of
ecosystems in the US may include:
a. Ocean Ecosystem (Example: organisms that might live in the Atlantic or
Pacific Oceans)
b. Desert Ecosystem (organisms that might live in a desert)
c. Forest/Woodlands Ecosystem (organisms that might live in a forest,
such as an Ohio forest)
d. Great Plains Ecosystem (organisms you would find on a prairie)
e. Polar/Tundra Ecosystem (organisms you might find in a cold ecosystem,
like Alaska!)
f. Mountain (organisms found in the Appalachian/Rocky Mountains)
* Any ecosystem not included on this list must be approved by your
teacher! *
2) Next, you need to research organisms that would live in the ecosystem. Then
select organisms to make up your food web. You must include organisms from
each of the following categories:
a. Producers (at least 3)
b. Consumers (at least 7)
c. Decomposers (at least 2)
Continued on backà
3) Then you must create two slides in Keynote. Follow the format below:
Slide 1: Introduction Slide
Slide 2: Food Web
Use the following code for your food web:
Name of Ecosystem (i.e. DESERT)
Sun: ORANGE CIRCLE
Producers(3): GREEN CIRCLES
Your Name
Primary Consumers: RED SQUARES
Pictures of organisms in your food web
Secondary Consumers: BLUE SQUARES
Third-Level Consumers: YELLOW SQUARES
Decomposers(2): BROWN TRIANGLES
4) Underneath each CONSUMER name, use the following code to inform the
reader if the consumer is an HERBIVORE (H), OMNIVORE (O) or CARNIVORE
(C).
Example:
MOUSE
(H)
5) You must include the sun within your food web.
6) Include arrows showing the direction of energy flow. This is the most important
part of a food web!
7) You may include a background to your second slide showing the ecosystem in
which your animals live.
8) You will be graded on the organization of the food web.
Use the space below to brainstorm for your project:
