Exposition at Alliance Francaise by two HOPAC students On Thursday 24 and Friday 25 March there will be an exhibition at the
Alliance Francaise in Dar es Salaam. Two grade 12 students, Eve and Luana, have made pictures concerning the UN Millenium
Development Goals and how these are being achieved in Tanzania. Pictures were taken at local schools, a women's centre and at
Muhimbili Hospital. This project was done for their service learning this year. Entrance is free and everyone is encouraged to go
and have a look!
French Writing Contest Five of our students have been invited to the Russian Cultural Center to take part of an awards ceremony

all of our students who entered the contest.
New Playground FAQ 1) Why does it cost so much? First, playgrounds aren't cheap! Many new playgrounds cost in excess of
$50,000 or even $100,000! This one is gently used and specially refurbished to endure our extreme conditions. Also, this cost
includes all shipping expenses from the US, to the port, to HOPAC, as well as our expenses to pour concrete, put down sand and
clear the old one. This playground is not a donation - we have to pay for it!
2) Won't plastic just melt in this heat? And won't metal be too hot to play on?
The "plastic" pieces are actually not just plastic but a special composite material designed to withstand extreme conditions. They
are a light tan color to help resist heat absorption. The metal poles are powder coated for safety and to help with the heat.
These playgrounds are built to be durable in any conditions. The company who is helping us build it has done this before in other
African countries with similar conditions. Sure, it may get a bit hot, but the kids will still be able to play on it. And no, it won't
melt.
3) How long will it last? This playground is built to last at least 30 years, so it's fair to say it's permanent. We look forward to the
HOPAC community enjoying and using this playground for years to come.
4) Sounds exciting... how can I help? We've only raised about $4,000 of the $30,000 needed to build it. So can you give a little to
help support the project? Donations are being accepted at the Business Office. Also, there will be a few more fundraisers coming
up in the next few months, so make sure to take full part in those. Many thanks to those who have already helped out!
3 on 3 Basketball Tournament Get a team of 4 together to play some 3-on-3 basketball at HOPAC on April 2. Games will start in
the morning and continue until the tournament is complete. Snack bar will be open all day. To sign up your team, contact Ron (0766
441591) or Ben (0786 926345) to get a registration form. Cost for a team is 50,000 /=, which you can pay at the HOPAC Business
Office or at the TanSAO office at Golden Tulip. Everyone can play! There are different age and gender categories, so we'll
match you up with the appropriate competition. Sign up today!
