Meet the Sanchez Family Cesia was in sixth grade when her family’s home was foreclosed on in the Dallas area. The family moved to College Station and crammed into a small two bedroom apartment. “It was hard,” Cesia said. Ten people lived in that apartment and had to share beds. But she also remembers the fun of spending so much time with her family. “Family is the most important thing,” she explained, a lesson learned from her mother, Margarita Sanchez. Margarita blames herself for losing their house in Dallas and has worked tirelessly since to care for her family. “My mom is a very hard worker. I don’t know how she does it,” Cesia said. “I wish I could have my mom’s work ethic.” Margarita works nights at Sanderson Farms and hardly gets any sleep. But she’s always there to take Kevin, the youngest child and a freshman at A&M Consolidated High School, to school early in the morning. Family: From Left: Kevin, Margarita and Cesia. Margarita’s mother and other son will also live in their home. For years Margarita’s goal has been to own a home again. She would often tell her kids, “One day we’re going to have a brand new house,” Cesia recalled. Now that day is actually coming, with construction starting on February 22. When Margarita found out that she would get to build a Habitat home in College Station, she declared, “Let’s get to work!” She’s very determined and can’t wait, Cesia said. Cesia raves about her mother – her hard work and how she cares for the family. “She knows how to love and can see light even in bad situations.” She always encourages her kids and pushes them to do well academically. And they are doing well. Kevin, who plays basketball and runs track, is already taking AP classes. Cesia is a student at Texas A&M, with a 4.0 GPA in economics. Cesia’s two older sisters are grown and her other brother is just returning from Afghanistan after serving in the Army. He’s moving back home and hopes to attend A&M as well. He’s getting ready to take the SAT. Cesia and her two brothers will live with their mother and grandmother in the Habitat home. Cesia looks forward to the burden that will be lifted from her mother when they move into their new house. “I always see my mom stressed,” worrying about the bills, Cesia explained. “She’s always working and we miss her.” In their new home, Margarita will be Seeking to put God’s love into action, able to relax a little more.
