NEED STATEMENT:
HYDROPONICS PROJECT
DESCRIPTION: Installation of 5 acre Hydroponics revenue regeneration farm at our Boynton Beach
Campus.
BACKGROUND:
Faith Farm Ministries (FFM) provides a 9 month, free, residential recovery program in Palm Beach, Broward
and Okeechobee Counties in Florida for over 600 residents each year based on funding. Our residents, or
students, are people from all over America who have lost control of their lives as a result of drugs and/or
alcohol. But, there is hope!
The men and women programs at FFM are designed to separate persons from those elements in their life that
have influenced them into a life of addiction. Difficulties in relationships that are destructive, lack of wellestablished boundaries, inconsistency, and poor self-esteem are stumbling blocks for many people today. The
“free” aspect eliminates the financial hardship out of the long term commitment. This commitment period
removes the resident out of the environment and influences that may have contributed to their addiction(s). As
a result, students are cocooned in a loving environment with a staff that has a “Heart for the Hurting.” Many of
the staff are graduates of the Faith Farm program. They understand what the residents are going through
because they’ve once been there themselves. They are also motivated to bring the residents into the same
victorious success that they now enjoy.
Within that loving, caring atmosphere, there is also structure. For many, this is the first time in years that they
have had an “alarm clock” start of the day with a full breakfast. Then, after a short chapel service, they go to
class where they are enlightened on causes of addiction, how to set boundaries in their life, respect for authority,
anger management and personal integrity. They then go to a work project to help establish a work ethic, lunch
at noon and dinner at 5:00 p.m. Evenings are free for reading, GED classes, recreation, reading/writing classes
or counseling. Staff members are required to live on the Farm, so no student is without help or guidance at any
time, if needed.
Upon completion of the 9 months which includes giving a 3 minute speech to all other residents about their
particular experience or pathway to success, graduates have three options besides returning home.
• They can choose to stay at any of FFM’s three campuses in the Student Leadership Service program.
This is an extended biblical and leadership program designed for residents who desire to learn skills
which are required for ministering to hurting people and leadership in daily life. The program is an
additional one year commitment to service in various leadership positions within the ministry. An SLS
program is at each of the three campuses and in the women’s program. Upon successful SLS
completion residents may apply an internship.
• They can go to FFM’s “Omega Work” which allows a graduate to seek employment opportunities in
the area near our three South Florida campus locations. Our unique program allows graduates to remain
living on campus with supervision and counseling while maintaining part-time or full-time employment.
They receive assistance in their job search, completing employment applications and resume' writing.
They can also receive coaching on interviewing skills.
• Also, “Omega College” program gives our graduates the opportunity to acquire job certifications, a degree,
and/or training at local educational and trade institutions with scholarships for books and related expenses.
Graduates live at one of the three Faith Farm campuses with a stipend of twenty-five dollars a week for spending
money. Graduates of the college program have the option to move into the Omega Work program.
•
Finally, “Omega Military” is another option for a graduate student is the Armed Services. The United
States Military is the best in the world, and it’s a great way to see the world, obtain an education and
life-long benefits for a graduate student and his family. We are pleased to collaborate in bringing
recruiters from the various military branches to speak to our students and answer any questions. The
prestige of the military, the honor of serving, the education, the excitement and benefits might be the
ideal solution to a fulfilled life for some.
BENEFIT:
A free program allows many to seek the help they need without the burden of economic hardship on themselves
and their families. The people that come to Faith Farm Ministries for help are those who are broken, hopeless
and lost. They are “down and out,” overcome by tough times, and beaten down by life. And, unfortunately,
many just give up. Some hate themselves. Some are depressed and suicidal. Loved ones and former friends
have given up on them. They have lost control of their lives as a result of drug and alcohol addictions and
abuse. Without the Faith Farm FREE recovery opportunity, many of these broken individuals would not be
able to get the help they need. Some addicts become incarcerated. Some are homeless and forgotten. And yes,
some even die. The good news is addiction lifestyle patterns CAN be broken. Relapse IS preventable. Our goal
is to have program participants get their life back, return to their families, and become productive and
successful contributors in the community.
FAITH FARM HYDROPONICS OPERATION:
Faith Farm’s free core program and post-graduate opportunities are available to the students, at no cost, only by
a dynamic business model which funds these programs. The primary source of our revenue derives from our
three thrift stores and complementing salvage/Green operations, cattle, sod and orchard enterprises. We are
always looking to introduce new revenue producing initiatives that fit our program’s objectives and property
area. After conducting extensive research, and onsite visits, introducing Hydroponics, using the Verti Gro
system is an ideal innovative revenue generating enterprise for Faith Farm’s Boynton Beach and Okeechobee
campuses. Key factors affecting this decision include:
• Our Boynton Beach campus not only has the initial 5 acre area of space available, but also, have ample
acreage for future program expansion.
• Ample labor with respect to Faith Farm’s Work – Therapy program.
• Hydroponics, or growing, does not only generate program funding, but has therapeutic aspects that are
consistent with the healing component in our addiction recovery program.
• Research shows that South Florida has a great market for 100% natural grown produce beyond Faith
Farm’s in-house resident market of 455 students. Customer base is also already established due to the
thousands of shoppers who visit the campus’ thrift store. (applies to Boynton Beach campus)
