GUIDELINES FOR USE OF DIOCESAN LOGO
A logo is the image which represents a company or its product. Its function is to create a
consistent, memorable, recognizable impression on the mind of a potential client or
customer. A logo is essentially at the heart of an organization’s identity.
The impact of a logo, ideally, is one of recognition and instant recall of the
company/product/service/organization the logo represents. Each time the logo is usedwhether on letterhead, business cards, newsletters, envelopes, on a website, or in
advertising - it will reinforce whatever message the logo is subliminally sending out.
Our Logo
The logo of the Catholic Diocese of Wichita has its origins in the 1960’s at the time of
the Second Vatican Council. Pope John XXIII spoke of the Council as opening a
window to the world, letting fresh air in, and at the same time, letting our light shine
forth. The diocesan logo reflects that Christian life is one of death and resurrection
constantly repeated; Pope John XXIII at the beginning of the Second Vatican Council
said we need to open the windows and let some fresh air in. This is a perennial need in
our lives and in our Church's life. The diocese and Church is a window on the world.
People can look in and hopefully see Christ. And we can look outward to the beauty of
the world yet to be brought to Christ.
The four acceptable versions of the Catholic Diocese of Wichita’s logo are shown
below.
 They can and should be used on all diocesan material, print or electronic, which
represents the diocese, its offices, and ministries.
 No words, images, or parts should be added or removed.
 Should a question arise regarding the appropriate use of the diocesan logo, the
Office of Communications should be consulted.
 The diocesan logo will be made available and should not be modified in terms of
the design of the image and the font used for the text.
 When using color, use PMS 315 which is a teal green color, or print the logo in
black.
When the need arises to create a logo for an office, ministry, or project within the
diocese, the Office of Communications should be consulted. Because a logo will and
should be utilized often and for a long period of time in order to develop awareness and
recognition, the development of the logo should include a thoughtful process which will
examine the exact needs of the office or ministry. This will also apply to existing logos
that need to be re-worked or updated.
Logos representing the diocese and its ministries will be kept simple. Whether alone or
combined with graphic elements, the text in a logo must be easily readable at small
sizes. A logo should be simple and abstract, not be complicated or confusing, and all
elements must be discernible when reproduced in small sizes.
In an effort to better communicate to the faithful in our diocese the relationship and
structure of our offices and ministries to that of the bishop’s office, ministries and offices
of the diocesan curia which use a logo other than that of the diocesan logo will be
required to incorporate the text - Catholic Diocese of Wichita. For example:
All other ministries and offices of the diocesan curia are to use the diocesan logo and
will preferably consult with the office of communications graphic designer when
incorporating the logo into printed pieces or use in advertising to ensure consistency
and professionalism.
