BER building update
A number of parents have requested an overview of the
building program here at the school. I have attached a number
of drawings from our architect. As we draw nearer to
completion we would like to conduct a tour in conjunction
with the P&C for interested parents. We will be advertising
this towards the end of the term.

A special visitor in the school
Last week our junior primary classes were amazed to find a
special visitor in our school. To our surprise a tawny frog
mouth (a relative of the nightjar family) had nested in the
eaves outside Mrs O’Neill’s classroom. After a 24 hour stay
and a visit from David (a volunteer from the CALM Wildlife hotline) it was decided to relocate the bird due to
some damaged tail feathers. At the present the tawny frog
mouth is receiving special care and will return to his natural
habitat shortly.
Annual PEAC testing
On Wednesday 8th June our year 4 students
will be completing a series of aptitude tests to
determine their suitability for the District
wide Primary Extension and Academic
Challenge program. To be eligible for the
program students need to be in the 97th
percentile or higher in either the SPM or
TOLA test.
Specialist Programs
Does your child have a special academic,
creative or sporting talent? A Specialist
Program in a public secondary school could
be the key to success. More than 50 public
secondary schools throughout WA offer 103
Specialist Programs for children with
academic, creative and sporting talents.
Your child can find a program that will
challenge and excite them, and allow them to
follow their dream – no matter where they
live. Closing dates vary from school to
school but most are concentrated around May
and June each year.
2011 WA Education Awards
Your child’s favourite teacher has the chance
to be crowned the State’s best with

easier with all nominations submitted through

P&C NEWS
Dear Richmond Families,
I hope you have all received your Fundraising
flyer in the children’s school bags today,
about the Second Richmond School
Cookbook.
We now have an active working group who
has spent the last 2 weeks busily organising
the information and coordinating the schedule
in preparation for publishing the new
Richmond Cookbook. We are all very pleased
with the plan ahead and look forward to
getting you all on board.
The P&C will be putting a notice board in the
undercover area, next to the canteen with all
the latest news and updates. If you would like
to add a notice please contact myself or Milly
and we will be pleased to help.
We have new volunteers coming forward to
assist with the cookbook but we are still in
need of further help with other fundraising. If
you could offer any time, please give me a
call and I can talk through some of the
information I have that may be of interest to
you.
I would like to thank Kate Spencer (Kindy)
and Louise Beckwith (Pre-Primary) for their
offer of become P&C reps for Kindy and PrePrimary. Please approach them if there are
any issues or ideas that you think may be
relevant to the P&C.
A big thank you to Peta Van Heemst who has
offered to co-ordinate a variety of loyalty
programs with the help of Paula Evans and
Michelle Van Ooren. They will keep you up
to date with the details in the newsletter .All
funds raised will go to the P&C and will help
support the Richmond kitchen garden.
Kelly and Mel will be using the notice board
and newsletter to keep you updated on
canteen news and volunteer timetables, please
keep a look out for gaps that may need filling.
Thanks again to all our current and future
volunteers!
Finally, the P&C will be organising a Social
Evening to celebrate the opening of the New
Library, Art, and Music Rooms. We hope to
organise this for the week commencing 27th
June; details will be sent out in the next
newsletter. Dave Carder has kindly offered to
arrange day time tours for any parents unable
to attend the opening event.
I appreciate we have been asking a great deal
of volunteers and we will continue to do so in
the coming months, in order to see new
projects succeed. Our aim this year is to make
the process as enjoyable and social as we can,
while raising money to improve our school
and provide our children and teachers with the
best support and facilities possible. Your help
will fast track the fundraising process.
Kind Regards
Nichola (P&C President)

Student Exchange
STS student exchange is looking for busy,
friendly Aussie families willing to show
European exchange students how we live life
‘Down Under”.
Most of our students arriving this July have
been dreaming about seeing Australia since
they were kids. Families who host are often
surprised at what they gain. They become a
member of your family and a brother or sister
to your children, be they older or younger.
Families are not paid to host but the students
support themselves financially. Families
provide food and board. If you are
enthused about this rewarding experience and
are willing to give it a go we would love to
hear from you.

Camp Australia After School Care
Good news!! Starting term 3 we have been
approved for the Active After School
Community Program (AASC). This means
each week during each term coaches from the
local community will visit and deliver
sporting programs to children at Richmond
After School Care. There will be three
different sports run on different days during
the week.
The last couple of weeks have been fun! Last
week we created slime using just corn flour,
water and food colouring. We also created
huge bubbles using a variety of ingredients.
This week children have been working on
making their own cushions. We have also
been very active playing frisbee, volleyball,
sharks, zoo keeper and frisbee soccer goal
shootout.
Next week our theme will be plants, where
children will grow their own mini garden and
magically change the colour of celery sticks.
If you would like to chat to me about my
program, you can find me in the undercover
area from 3pm daily, send me an email
[email protected] or
you can call my work mobile on 0412001179.
I also have placed copies of a letter in the
front office which will tell you a bit about me
and my experience with children from all
around the world.
Kind regards,
Daniel Ogden
