And it’s especially not fun when you have to pay an arm and a leg to buy the harsh products to clean with. Here are a few ways to clean and save your green! If you are having trouble with your smelly garbage disposal, grab ice cubes and a citrus peel. Place a handful of ice cubes and the peel in the disposal, run the cold water and turn on the disposal for 1530 seconds. After turning off the disposal, run hot water for another 15 seconds. Here is an easy way to scrub off the stubborn food in your microwave. Put a wet dish rag in the microwave for about 30 seconds. Then use 2 NuVu Property Management the rag to wipe off the inside. The moisture from the rag will loosen the food, so it is easy to wipe away. WARNING: the rag may be hot, so be cautious when grabbing it. Need to polish chrome surfaces? Use non-gel toothpaste! Just rub the toothpaste on and polish it off with a soft, dry cloth. Having an iron with gunk on it can ruin so many outfits! Put the iron on low and rub a dryer sheet over the iron until the residue is gone. Just be careful you don’t burn your hand. Here is a tip for your home computer or your office. Have an old keyboard with dust stuck on the keys? Use a piece of tape to slide in between the keys. You can also use a coffee filter to clean monitors and TV screens. Stop buying dish scrubbers that fall apart after 2 weeks! Just keep the mesh bag that your fruits and veggies sometimes come in. Easy-peasy Pizza Dough 3 cups all-purpose flour 1 (.25 ounce) pkg active dry yeast 2 tablespoons vegetable oil 1 teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon white sugar 1 cup warm water (110 degrees F) Combine flour, salt, sugar, and yeast in a large bowl. Mix in oil and warm water. Spread out on a large pizza pan. Top as desired. Bake at 375 degrees C (190 degrees C) for 20 to 25 minutes. Sassy Sauce 3 garlic cloves, minced 3 tablespoons olive or vegetable oil 1 (29 ounce) can tomato puree 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes 2 tablespoons brown sugar 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning 1 teaspoon dried basil 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper In a large saucepan, saute garlic in oil until tender. Stir in the remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes or until sauce reaches desired thickness. Sauce may be refrigerated for up to 1 week. Fruit Pizza 2 cups all-purpose flour 1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar 1 cup cold butter 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened 1/3 cup sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 cups halved fresh strawberries 1 (11 ounce) can mandarin oranges, drained 1 cup fresh blueberries GLAZE: 1/2 cup sugar 2 tablespoons cornstarch 1 cup unsweetened pineapple juice 1 teaspoon lemon juice In a large bowl, combine flour and confectioners’ sugar. Cut in butter until crumbly. Press onto an ungreased 12-in. pizza pan and bake at 350 degrees F for 12-15 minutes or until very lightly browned. Cool on a wire rack. In a small mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese, sugar and vanilla until smooth. Spread over crust. Arrange the strawberries, oranges and blueberries on top. For glaze, in a small saucepan, combine sugar and cornstarch. Stir in pineapple juice and lemon juice until smooth. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Cool slightly. Drizzle over fruit. Refrigerate until chilled. Crazy for Cranberry, Brie, and Chicken Pizza 2 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves 1 tablespoon vegetable oil 1 (12 inch) prepared pizza crust 1 1/2 cups cranberry sauce 6 ounces Brie cheese, chopped 8 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese Preheat oven to 350 degrees F Chop chicken breasts into bite-size pieces. Heat oil in medium skillet until hot. Add chicken and saute until browned and almost cooked through. Spread cranberry sauce over the pizza crust. Top with chicken, brie and cover with mozzarella. Bake at 350 degrees F for 20 min. *Feel free to season the chicken while browning (Rosemary, thyme, etc) *Also, if possible, drain as much juice as possible from cranberry sauce to avoid soggy pizza. Ginger Ale 2-4 tablespoons grated fresh ginger root (to taste) 1 cup sugar 1/4 teaspoon active dry yeast 1 lemon, juiced water Into an empty 2-liter soda bottle, put the ginger root, sugar, yeast, and lemon juice. Fill the rest of the way with water. Screw the cap onto the bottle as tight as possible. Shake the bottle well, then leave at room temperature until the bottle is too hard to squeeze, about 2 days. Refrigerate. To serve, pour through a tea strainer. ** After 2-3 days the jug needs to be chilled and kept at refrigerator temps to force the yeast to settle and become inactive.
