Behind the St. Patty’s Day Party
Where did the shamrock tradition
come from? Did you know that St.
Patrick wasn’t even Irish!? Here
are the details behind the popular
St. Patrick’s Day holiday.
The Background Story
St. Patrick was born around 390
A.D. to a wealthy British family.
Patrick was kidnapped at the age of
16, shipped to Ireland, and forced
to tend sheep as a slave. In Ireland,
he became a devoted Christian.
Shamrocks
While he was ministering, Patrick
used the Trifolium dubium, or
three-leaf clover, to explain the
Christian holy trinity: the Father,
the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
No Snakes
Many people believe that St.
Patrick drove all of the snakes out
of Ireland. However, there never
were snakes in Ireland. This myth
may have started as a metaphor
for the disappearance of varying
He escaped after 6 years, was
reunited with his family in Britain
and went on to become an ordained
Catholic Priest. The Lord brought
him back to Ireland and he spent
the rest of his life ministering to
the people of Ireland. He died in
Ireland on March 17, 461 AD.
druidic religions after he brought
Christianity to the island.
All Green
According to some sources,
the color green was actually an
unlucky color for the Irish. Green
is the favorite color of the faeries of
the island and they will steal people
who wear too much green. They
will especially steal small children!
Parades
The first St. Patrick’s Day parade
was in New York City in 1762.
Irish soldiers, fighting with the
British during the American
Revolutionary War, marched
through NYC to show solidarity
and reconnect with their Irish roots.
Today, the NYC parade is the
oldest civilian parade in the world!

Green Spring Cleaning Tips
Cleaning isn’t fun. And it’s
especially not fun when you have
to pay an arm and a leg to buy the
harsh products to clean with. Here
are a few ways to clean and save
your green!
If you are having trouble with your
smelly garbage disposal, grab ice
cubes and a citrus peel. Place a
handful of ice cubes and the peel
in the disposal, run the cold water
and turn on the disposal for 1530 seconds. After turning off the
disposal, run hot water for another
15 seconds.
Here is an easy way to scrub off the
stubborn food in your microwave.
Put a wet dish rag in the microwave
for about 30 seconds. Then use
2 NuVu Property Management
the rag to wipe off the inside. The
moisture from the rag will loosen
the food, so it is easy to wipe away.
WARNING: the rag may be hot, so
be cautious when grabbing it.
Need to polish chrome surfaces?
Use non-gel toothpaste! Just rub
the toothpaste on and polish it off
with a soft, dry cloth.
Having an iron with gunk on it can
ruin so many outfits! Put the iron
on low and rub a dryer sheet over
the iron until the residue is gone.
Just be careful you don’t burn your
hand.
Here is a tip for your home
computer or your office. Have an
old keyboard with dust stuck on the
keys? Use a piece of tape to slide in
between the keys. You can also use
a coffee filter to clean monitors and
TV screens.
Stop buying dish scrubbers that
fall apart after 2 weeks! Just keep
the mesh bag that your fruits and
veggies sometimes come in. Fold it
or make it into a ball and use this to
scrub your pots and pans safely and
not scratch your non-stick surfaces.
Do you have any good cleaning or
maintenance tips you would like to
share? If so, please feel free to send
them to [email protected].
We look forward to hearing from
you!
